Always love your videos Jeff. Been watching a long time. Ive been carving 5yrs part time, im a home builder in muskoka canada. And one thing ive learned is if you want it bad enough, you will find a way. I was told along time ago, " do your job as best you can, and the money will follow" thats what i do.

Great video Jeff. I’m over in wales UK and been at it three years. My work is ok and manage to sell most carvings but need to get to next level. Not many people giving tuition in UK unfortunately. I know Chris Wood and been nagging for some help” hopefully one day”

i started carving at 65 and at 67 I'm still pill and doctors.
after a 35-year career in housing construction im in love with the degree of work.
money comes and goes here in Yuma Az, it's what it is, I'm content.
reality i need to move back to the northwest for money, the warm outweighs money.

I am a 50 yr old retired truck driver with sever RA & Lupus and have been carving for a little over a year now with great success it just sort of came natural to me. I also always wanted to carve just never tried. When my health got so bad I couldn't keep working I had to stay busy so I gave it a shot, and it is a real struggle to keep up with my condition. I have a Question for you sir, how do or did you deal with people asking for projects rather than just buying what you have available this ruins my creativeness and really slows me down when I have to make someone else's vision and not my own?
huge fan thank you! ps I don't at this point worry about the money because that's not why I do it I just really enjoy carving and people like to buy my stuff so all seems right in the world.

If you're just starting out, do what you want. There is no law that says you must carve what others want. However later in my career I recognized the fact that I can be given an idea buy a customer but that's where it ends the rest is all me. The challenge is to let them bring the spark, and then you start and then tend the fire. Hope this helps! Thanks for watching.

Maybe try having side projects, slow burners that are just for you, your happiness, and creativity.
That way you can get the best of both worlds ?
      Good luck!

Thanks for watching and commenting.! As far as your question goes, the way I see it, you answered it on your own. You don't need the money, so you don't need to take commissions, do what makes you happiest. Thanks for watching!

Well I'll be celebrating my 24th anniversary of my 29th birthday this year. I've been carving for 3 years now and have been fortunate enough to actually make a profit even though I started late to the game and from scratch. My first saw was a 1970ish Pioneer p26 or something my father in-law gifted to me. I've never owned or used a chainsaw up to that point but I quickly learned it was way too heavy and way too powerful to carve for any length of time or do any kind of detail.
Thanks for the videos they are both entertaining and an inspiration. Maybe I can be like you when I grow up 😉.

Great video…I carve part time now. But about 20 years ago I worked for a farm that was a popular place for city weekenders to pick apples and buy jams etc. i carved only roosters and horse heads. They sold a ton of those things. I made great money doing that but I got burned out after a couple years. It’s all about finding the right situation.

This bear looks so much different then any other bears I’m seeing online, what is making it different to look at?? Whatever it is I find it super appealing.

Well done, sir thank you for keeping it real!
I have been working on getting established and happened to stumble across a traveling broker at tractor supply while I was getting a spark plug for a used new to me jonsared saw!
He offered to purchase wholesale lots of my carvings, what would you say is a good cut for the carver versus broker?
I have not had any formal conversation with the guy yet clearly I would imagine it assumes on the quality of the work …..
Let’s say it is not the best, but definitely not the worst .
Thanks for all the valid and pertinent information .
    God bless you brother

Before you enter an agreement, see what his take would be. Then do the math. Figure what you can get on average per peice and deduct his percentage. Then you can add x amount until you're happy . Normally, if you sell a bunch of things to a store or broker and it takes off, understand that that's what you will be doing for the foreseeable future. If that's the case, you should streamline operations for maximum profit. Thanks for watching.

I have three different kinds, all of which are old and were purchased for $350 or less. Brand doesn't matter. It's all about price location and functionality. Thanks for watching.
