I had my 4th miscarriage in July… everything about this song just so eloquently articulates this grief I can’t get away from. I know it won’t be evermore, but when it’s here it drowns and it’s so hard to stay above the water. This song echoes my grief with every haunting lyric, but it beautifully reminds me that this will pass and this pain won’t be for evermore.

The ending is just everything "this wouldn't be for evermore" represents the tiny bit of hope left in a person in a tough situation. Love Taylor sm.
Am I the only one who wants evermore to win album of the year at the grammys, I don't think it will happen since Sour & Happier Than Ever are stronger contenders this year (Don't Get Me Wrong , I love both albums and would love to see one of them winning) but I really feel like evermore is as perfect as folklore and it's so unique , the lyricism is chills and so detailed , Taylor's voice is better than ever and this album hasn't aged a bit but like the finest wine ever. I am so proud of Taylor and I hope she never stops making albums like these.
no offense to anyone who likes them but happier than ever and sour don't deserve it,,,,,,
argue w the wall
Those are two great albums, but Evermore is a masterpiece. It will be such a shame if it doesn't get at least one grammy (It deserved more nominations). Not shame for the album, but for the grammy itself.
Yeah, also since she has already won an aoyt this year, slim chance she'd an award this year too. Besides she herself seems to hate evermore or summin idk
i think not the aoty because this year was really olivia and sour's year, but the best alternative album should have been evermore but they didnt give taylor nomination. also willow definitely should have won the song of the year, it was the strongest candidate this year but they didnt give her nomination again

This song brings me back to when I was severely depressed in college. I saw no way out and nothing to live for. This song REALLY reflect the cold, lonely, and thoughtful place I was in with my depression. But I got therapy, put the work in, and eventually recovered. "I had a feeling so pellicular, this pain wouldn't be for evermore" means so much more than anyone will ever know.

And people still don't like her?? How?!? This is too perfect.
True but Taylor does not mind about it anymore. that's why she doesn't promote her music literally everywhere unlike the others.
Folklore and evermore is the proof that Taylor doesn't compete with the rest, Taylor's doing what she and the real fans like.

FOR REAL
This song is the saddest song on the album for me. I always start crying at “I replay my footsteps on each stepping stone,” something about the way she sings it feels full of such deep pain. I feel the song perfectly encapsulates the feeling of depression and lost. I lost my friend/boss on December 9th and this is the only song I have found to really put into words my emotions. Here’s to “this pain wouldn’t be evermore”
Heart given is heart given pink
tell me whatever you want, but this beautifully made song is entirely about healing, going from "this pain would be for evermore" to "this pain wouldn't be for evermore", these two lines alone describe exactly what healing is; such a masterpiece.
the line "you were there" alone deserves a grammy.
yeah
totally agree.
@Queen queen Because is the climax: all builds up to that sentence which is the easiest, simplest yet most powerful resolution of an excruciating song. Bottling up hope, sadness, nostalgia and relief in such a simple line is pure songwriting genius.
@@FollettaWinkie I love this explanation. So true!!!

Evermore: sequel of exile

Ivy = Invisible String
Closure, the last american dynasty

The last chorus of this song is literally the last scene of Willow MV!! "I was catching my breathe, floors of the cabin creaking under my step and I couldn't be sure, I had a feeling so peculiar this pain wouldn't be for evermore" It is literally the scene from the Willow MV where Taylor is coming out of the piano catching her breath and the floors of the cabin that she came back to was creaking under her step and when she saw him, she couldn't be sure at first.. but when she finally held his hand, she knew that this pain wouldn't be for evermore!
so that mean joe gave her hope right?

@@sreegitabose8493 no.. Willow MV. At the end, she comes back to the cabin.. and she sees the guy so now she had a peculiar feeling that "this pain wouldn't be for evermore"

I feel like the story behind this song is basically when you initially feel stuck with your life and feel like this feeling will last forever. Therefore the only thing you do to comfort yourself is to recall old memories in a time of your life when you were happy. When you feel like after a really horrible incident happened everything just stopped there and you just can't go back. However at the end of the song in the lyrics "And I was catching my breath•Floors of a cabin creaking under my step•And I couldn't be sure•I had a feeling so peculiar•This pain wouldn't be for•Evermore" basically says that you've reached the first steps of your healing. IT IS AN AMAZING SONG THAT DEFINITELY ANYONE CAN RELATE TO!
Thank you for the beautiful explanation ❤ I think this song is about the incident when she was framed for being a lier with an edited audio clip and was flooded with hate messages on her instagram page. She thought this hurt might last for evermore but she healed through that pain and survived everything.
Do you think the order of the songs in the album actually serves any meaning? More specifically, Long Story Short with evermore.
The fact that Taylor puts Evermore after Long Story Short might signal that even though she captured all her hardships in short with a more cheerful pace and kinda carefree singing in the song to prove that she's finally over them; but then the album ends with evermore, which secretly confesses that her wounds haven't gone entirely.
Evermore might be a development from Hoax, also conveniently, the last track of her previous album folklore, which contains an iconic line "You knew it still hurts underneath my scars
from when they pulled me apart".
However, the different thing now is Evermore is a duet, which means in this furthered version, Taylor finally has someone by her side and be with her in the darkest moments of her life. And Joe also wrote this song with Taylor, a fact that strengthens this theory.
Just reading your comment I realized catching my breath I hold my breath when people are sleeping like I'm so afraid to wake them up
that's exactly how I feel this year :(
Amazing interpretation of the song... The song surely depict how I was and am feeling right now... When I see myself a month ago.. I thought I wouldn't be able to come out of the deep end... But now it's different... It hurt less... I smile more... I feel I'll be at peace once again... Waiting for the day...
This song is not only for heartaches, it is also for our realities that happening in our lives, living in depression, anxiety etc..it can help us to overcome our pain....
This is one of the most underrated songs she has in her entire discography. It's like the 1% of the 1% of all the underrated songs.
When you haven't memorized all the songs in Folklore and she drops this insanely magical album out. im crying

That transition from Bon Iver to Taylor "And when I was shipwrecked, I thought of you, in the cracks of light I dreamed of you. It was real enough to get me through. I swear, you were there". Gets me bursting into tears every damn time. Truly a masterpeice.
I love how the song literally describes how someone's mood changes when they are in depression. In the beginning, we could see that the rhythm is slow with the lines suggesting that the person is depressed, and then the song picks up faster beats where the lines are beginning to show a happier person, and then the beats make you calm down where the line suggests that the feeling isn't forever more. Isn't this just pure brilliance!

Easily, she is the Goddess of music.
I'm not content with the swifties not being able to appreciate this song as the only thing they notice is how Justin Vernon's voice isn't as raspy as it is in Exile. This song is a masterpiece, the two voices overlapping to get a sense of overwhelm being followed by a release or permanent escape is just what gives me so much peace from it.
This song is very helpful for people who struggle with depression or anything else. I want to say to me and to all those people: you're not alone, and as Taylor says, this pain won't be for evermore. I know it now and I'm sure that somehow, somewhere deeper in your heart you know it too.

So happy to find fellow Indians here. In my friend circle, nobody listens to Taylor Swift anymore.
Recently became a fan of Taylor Swift. Really only started listening to her since July around the time the writing was on the wall that my ex and I would break up. We split in September, and it’s been such a process. It’s now December, and at the time of me writing this, evermore just turned two and I had no idea.
Evermore and Folklore have really helped me process and grieve in a healthy way, that these too shall pass, and harboring any animosity is bad for the spirit if the life you want to live is one lead with empathy.
Happy birthday Evermore, and thank you.
Folklore came out and helped me cope with an unhealthy situationship I was in. I, at the same time, had a best friend whom I knew loved me as more than a friend but I brushed him off until Folklore came out and he stayed up until midnight to listen so we could discuss the songs the next day. I then realized THIS is the sort of thing you do for the one you love. I have been with him ever since.

lol
😭😭
Hahaha true!
😭😭
Last line of the bridge is what heals us. We may have different views on what that last line is but it heals us.
This quietly brilliant song is pure poetry, reminding me of great poets who spoke volumes in such a few words. Such power and so gentle. Just wow...
“Grey November, I’ve been down since July “ - ain’t we all due to Covid
Lmao but like didn’t folklore come out on July? Or maybe it was early august
@@heatherslover6110 yeahh it was the 24th july

We've all been down since March 💀
@@91clarie it was the first thing I thought too when i heard that part haha
Thank you. Depression is such a serious problem, yet no one talks about it.
Some people do, but they 9/10 mess it up.
Everyone talks about it these days what are you on about.
A lot of artist talk about this a lot, I dont know what youre talking about lmao
Hey, are you referring to the artists or you and I? “That this pain would be for evermore”. X
A lot of people just distract themselves from it until they fall asleep.
For someone as a student, who has the exam of her life in december is just sitting here listening to this masterpeice hoping to just make it out of here. Taylor Swift, the best artist ever.
It’s a tiny thing, but I like that Bon Iver’s voice never joins for the more hopeful part. So it’s like the song never invalidates my darker feelings, but at the same time I have Taylor’s voice anchoring me to reality in the end
Folklore - Bon iver: I'm gonna sing at my deepest voice.
Evermore- Bon iver: I don’t know why I get all squeaky but IM FINE.
Love the Ross reference 😂
Omg 😂😂😂
He's been doing that since the start.

Taylor, no one blames you for Cats.
Underrated comment

Memento Mori

Ahahaha
This song gets me every damn time. It’s honestly just a perfect summary of the cycle of having depression.
I listen to this song every day. Sometimes twice. Or twenty times. It’s how I know - without a doubt - that this pain won’t be forevermore. Life ebbs and flows. Right now, it’s ebbing for me, for so many. Yet, it will be flowing again. Hold onto the cracks of light. They’ll get you through.
I am beginning to understand the "chaotic' bridge. It's the chaotic situation, the chaos of her mind and loudness of people talking about her and it slows when she say "You were there". Someone (Joe? Her family?) makes her sure that everything will be fine eventually. I used to hate the bridge, but I love it after I really listen to the lyrics.
Astute observation. Yeah this totally could be a Joe/Andrea reference as they're her most beloved and hence written-about people!
I love this so much!!!
Listen to some of bon iver songs, you'll get to hear the 'chaotic' or a distort kind of bridge more :)
Agreed. I am not a fan of tempo-changes mid-song and so I initially felt the bridge felt out of place in the song. But when I listened more carefully to the chaotic lyrics it all made sense why they did that.
Musicals do this. It's called a counterpoint, where two melodies are sung at once. Usually during moments of anxiety, conflict, etc.
To everyone who binge-watched the whole album in the early morning hours of December 11th: Congratulations! We did it!! 🎉
It’s 3am where I live. Loved every minute listening to this album.

It's 5 pm in my country and I think its perfect after a long day
i hope taylor know how within this song shes been save me so many times from my depression. if theres life gettin too much to bearable then feels like im lost in the deep forest. then i would comin back to this song. playin on repeat. and just by that. with all the lyrics she conveyed. with how emotion she pourin up in here. it helps me. it save me. so many times. taylor. thank you. for makin this song. you dont know how many soul outta there could survived till nowdays because of this song. love you. as always
As it says "this pain wouldn't be forevermore"
“You were there” - that line after the tempo change ends just sends me. I want to be able to say that to someone about how they were there for me during that time when I thought the pain would be for evermore.
