- This ride was at chessington world of adventures between 1988 and 1994 where tomb blaster now stands in 2008!! And there are loads of us out there who would love to see it come back!!

This was my favourite ride as a child. My parents had to take me on it so many times when we would visit...Loved Zappo :)
I wish I could experience The Fifth Dimension. It's such an unusual tale of how it was built, re-designed and then it disappeared forever...
I'm pretty sure I went to Chessington in 1988 (certainly 1989 - got the pics) so was lucky enough to go on this ride. I know we went there several times when I was little so I would have gone on it every year it was opened. I'm now nearly 31 and still consider it one of my favourite themepark rides and certainly one of the most imaginative! !

OMG i well remember this ride first time at chessington. I brought the cassette of all the music...... going with my family tomrrow they love it there ps i will always remember the fisher price skates

I hadn't been born yet during the duration of this ride's opening, and soon closing, but I have to say, this gives me such nostalgia and I've never even ridden it!
Also, I have to say that Zappomatic 552 is the absolute best robot out there-

it was the smoke machines that made the "dry smell"

Amazing, thats taking me back a while! I wish I could go back in time and experience all these things again. They dont last forever these rides, they have removed the yellow monorail which was the first ride at the Zoo back in those days. That monorail was probably the reason the zoo turned into a themepark.
Aw I miss the 5th dimension! My 5yr old loves Tomb Blaster though and when I showed him this he said "Hm Mummy I think Tomb blaster is much better"...Kids eh!? Zappomatic You may be gone but You'll never be forgotten!!!
I remember going on it with my dad (or rather forced on) i was very youn so i was scared but i was the best shot from bein scared near the end but half way i kinda liked it, oh and im 22 now so i was about 5-10
omg i remember my mother taking me on this ride when i was 5, and that was 1990. I missed this ride so much, sometimes i hear this music in my head, and i had no idea where it came from and i thought this ride was a dream, but its real im not mad lol :P
i will sign your petition bring it back now! lol

this looks awesome, i remember it being there but my mum wouldnt take me on it cos i was to young i had to wait outside while she took my cousin, looks way better then tomb blaster (even though i love it) which i went on yesterday

This ride's always stuck in my head, prob in part as I too had the cassette!.. god-awful isn't it but was chuffed with it at the time. Beauty of a ride as an imaginative kid though, cheers for sharing!
Bob Goodman It wasnt god awful, it was way more detailed and animated than most rides today, but these pictures in the video are flash photos (not under the ride’s proper lighting) taken during its removal, so it looks crappy

I'm pretty sure I heard part of the exit music in a new KIA advert - its played on piano though, rather than synth. I think the guy who wrote this music is called Richard Heartly and it wouldn't surprise me if he made the music for the car ad aswell.

@SaiyanHajime it Starts off going through a room with screw driver, plugs tv etc, then you get shrunk through the tv and you meet zapomatic on his roket. then after meeting zapomatic the lights go out and there was some glowbugs. Then I remember going past some giant spiders overhead. Then after there was those spacemen or were they snowpeople. Then I can remember laser guns being fired at me and finally everyone met the gorg and the cards turned and you press fire button. it was well made.
OMG IM GING THERE (CHESSINGTON) WITH SCHOOL 2MOZ! cant wait! me and my bff on all rides yh lol !

well im 34 and believe i went on this ride in either 88 or 89. Was scared to go on it as had no idea what went on after you went throu black doors?

Was it there for the 1994 season? That was the first time I visited. I don't remember the ride at all, but if it was there in 1994 for the whole season I may have ridden it. Looks very odd. Did it have a story?
No. The 5th Dimension had its final season of operation in 1993. Brand new for the 1994 season was Terror Tomb.
