    Thank you so much for this video! I just fixed my 09 A5 3.2 based on your video. Saved me thousands. I did end up buying the voltage regulator directly from Audi. It was $256 but a local dealer had a parts special so I was able to get mine for $194. I also went in from the top of the engine compartment. I took apart the front end and put the car in "service position" and went in from there. Lots more parts to undo but it gave me more clearance to move around. I still had to go from under to disconnect the battery cable and the electronic connector attached to the alternator. Altogether, spent maybe $300 with the cost of parts and buying tools. Way better than the thousands I was sure to spend with Audi. Thanks Dave!!!

    Hey Dave I hope I got your ear today I'm working on that particular Audi and you never mentioned where you ordered that part from here in Florida we're getting a real run-around everyone wants to sell us a new alternator and a few people say they can get the part but give me this whole ring around and it's over 150 bucks if you can help me out real quick tell me where you ordered it and this alternator on the back case says 150 by chance is that the same alternator that you had if you can recall I really would like to know if you ordered from Amazon or not thanks

    To be in the most money saving path what you coud also do is to repair that regulator by installing new contacts and cleaning the alternator shaft. 😁

    Okay dumb question, this message just came out on my car.. how long can you drive your audi before it leaves you stranded?

      Not long if the battery is not charging, 15-20 minutes maybe.

    Nice work!! I got my 2010 also 3.2 4 months ago. Sitting at 170k kms. I’ve looking all your videos. I did driver’s side CV boot replacement so far. Did you change transmission fluid? I bought fluid, filter and gasket already but still having doubts about the filling plug. Anyway.(btw OEM Lifeguard 8 fluid) Any wheel bearing replaced? Diff and center Torsen fluid? I appreciate your work, clean and straightforward!

      @@KjH-sq1sz What does your battery terminal voltage read when you unplug that wire? If it’s more than 14 1/2 V then it sounds like the voltage regulator has gone bad

    I have similar issue with a 2013 audi q7. Changed the regulator and bearing while I was at it. After all cables being reconnected, the car turned on, placed in gear and the car died. I connected my OBDeleven and battery reads 9.2 Volts. Used jumper cables to get the car started but the entire dashboard lit up like an x-mas tree. From TPMS being faulty to adaptive headlights not working. I have read if a new battery is replaced or alternator is replaced, the battery needs to be coded. Not sure of the if that is legit. Does the the battery need need to be coded? I am out of ideas where to keep looking. What do you suggest?

    I’m away from home and the fault shows up and then disappears. Can I drive 200 km or it will drop dead while I drive it?

    Hello Dave.
    Do You think, that it is possible to change the regulator without having to dismount the alternator?
    Best regards

    I have simillar problem but i have A3. Fault message is coming when i turn on some electrical things like heated rear window and after a while it dissapears to suddenly come on again when I turn something on. Do you think it will be the same issue as yours? Sorry for my english

    • @daveraymond2265
      @daveraymond2265  Před rokem

      Hey Walo, it sounds like you may have a weak battery and every time you turn on a high current draw items the battery voltage drops too low and maybe the car thinks it’s not being charged. First thing I would do is check the terminal voltage of the battery and it should read very close to 12.6 V When the car is off. When you start the car the voltage should jump up to 14V or so

      @@daveraymond2265 Battery seems good. I have start/stop system which wouldn't be able to work when battery is weak. On A3 is hard to take alternator off and i wonder what causes this problem. I am driving this car daily with this issue and i doesn't see any other issues besides of fault on the dashboard. Some mechanics seen my car and they don't know what to do too. There is no fault codes when i plug computer to the car but gauge cluster randomly sees drops of voltage one guy said.

    Nice! I am getting messages about a failed alternator and I’m also having a cylinder misfire. Could the bad alternator cause problems with a spark plug? Grounding issue? Thinking of starting with this process to replace the alternator’s voltage regulator.

      @@daveraymond2265 agreed! my first set of misfires was spark plugs. a year later i had misfires again but it ended up being fuel injectors this time. went to audi dealership both times and spent THOUSANDS for both issues. I will not let them get me again with this alternator issue! lol determined to do it myself!

      Google. I always search for Genuine Audi Parts first. Depending on what it is and how much it costs, sometimes I go with aftermarket.
