    The eagle vision in the new Assassin's Creed seems like a good system IMO. I haven't played the games, but if stealth is a central mechanic to the game, there should be a focus on scouting out the enemy positions and planning your infiltration.

    I loved the video--quite concise and informative! I also thought of another potential reason this health sensor ability was moved rather than taken out of the game entirely: it helps keep the Champion's Tunic relevant in a game filled to bursting with various stat-boosting outfits. If it didn't have some special property besides being on the box, most players would likely never wear the tunic at all and opt for attack/defense or environmental outfits instead.

And the next encounter, will they all have 13 hit points again? Obviously yes, but when you're in a must scout all the things mentality it can be a bit hard to break the habit. this is so cool to learn! it was a great idea and implementing it makes total sense, but i'm VERY glad it was cut. i'm not a fan of motion controls, and this would have drove me nuts! now i wear the tunic enough that i have most enemy hp memorized, or at least a general idea of their difficulty. and i think bomb arrows were what taught me how to scout out an area before diving in, actually. getting frustrated by dying over and over, and then seeing arrow go BOOM made the connection clear that sometimes you gotta plan! not sure if that was the dev's intention, but it did the job for my minmaxer brain

    I feel like a better way they could have done it would have been if you've scanned the enemy for the compendium, then you'll see the health when you zoom in on them. That way you're not doing it every time for enemies you've seen hundreds of times

    Tbh it would be a hassle to look at enemies through the shiekah slate to see their health especially if it disappears after 😌 but that is still a pretty cool feature (if using on further targets that doesn't reach with the tunis then that would be most useful)
    Also I liked the motion controls in Skyward Sword as well! I don't understand why so many dislike it ;-;

    This reminds me a lot of the scan mechanic in Metroid. It would've been so much more interesting if this was the way to obtain enemy data for the Compendium.
    Say, you see a Moblin somewhere and think that's new and looks tough, let's scan it. And bam, you get to know everything about a Moblin. This feature had much potential. It could've shown not just HP but also Attack power too.
    Yeah, it's still janky but I think with less scaning time it could've been really fun. And not just for enemies but for all the entries in the compendium as well. Including something like the gems and stuff.

    I kind of want to vouch for the whole controlling a separate bird from you to scout out areas because I LOVED the owl in far cry primal. Maybe it was different because you could attack with the owl, send down certain bombs or even send your beast to go attack the enemies the owl was looking at, So you could get a head start on knocking out the enemies without alerting them to your actual position. I'd also use it to scout hundreds of feet in front of me, Huge entire encampments, And the nearby enemy sensor you mentioned in assassins creed wouldn't work for that. It's kind of interesting you could never really say a certain mechanic is bad or good because there's probably at least one person who likes it. But also you've mentioned time stopping and in far cry primal while you were using owl it was mostly normal time until you click button that was like hunter view or something and that slowed down time. So maybe it was just implemented better?

  • @JimMilton-ej6zi
    @JimMilton-ej6zi Před 10 měsíci

    I believe the sensor could very easily work if you extend the hitbox the second it shines on an enemy, like with the bat if you just follow its general direction it should tell you the health, then if you do it enough times it should tell you the health of every single enemy of that type permanently. So like with bokoblins you need to do it 10 times, with moblins only 5, with bats 10, hinoxes only 2 or 3, and same as hinox for any other mini-boss, with the actual boss enemies only needing to do it once.
    I think it would've been cool to have a way to reveal all the enemies health, but I also think it would've been cool to have the other clothing effects naturally too some way, maybe through a perk system or some kind of additional challenge like "Kill 5 of X type enemy" to unlock those effects permanently. Like imagine getting to permanently have the faster climbing, it would be so cool and give the game another avenue to progression that is seriously lacking in it.
    But they'd probably sooner shoot Miyamoto than add progression features into the game.
