  • After retire, I need a small milling machine to use at home, I have used some different brands and models, and each has some unsatisfactory functions. Until last year I combined the Proxxon milling head with the wabeco drill stand, They turn into a really fun little milling machine, Proxxon micro mill FF 230 is a good milling machine, But its swing distance is only 63mm, limited scope of use, Wabeco drill stand is a versatile machine, as strong as a german tank, My favorite is the cast iron base, wide and strong, The columns of both machines are 35mm, Wabeco drill stand column is solid iron bar, But the Wabeco drill stand itself is difficult to achieve precision machining, After the two machines are combined, the advantages are complementary, Turned into a very good little milling machine, beautiful and practical.

Hi Karl, thank you for the video and the information. I would like to ask a question, please. Where did you get the aluminium bracket to mount the Proxxon milling head to the Wabeco horizontal column, please? I have a Wabeco stand too... But I do not have any milling spindle. Your bracket looks mighty strong. I like it. Thank you and best regards.

Hello, This aluminum bracket is made by myself, To connect the Wabeco drill stand hexagonal post, I embed a 30mm 12 point socket, The socket must be cut, This bracket connection is very strong, Thank you for watching, all best!

For milling metal the z-column should be locked. The Wabeco drill stand does not have any mechanism strong enough to prevent the z-column from slipping when milling steel. How can that be solved?

Yes, I left out a very important step when making this video, when milling steel, after adjusting the Wabeco drill stand to the proper height, you must tighten the locking screws. These two screws are located on the top and bottom of the box, beside to the Z-pillar, After tighten these two screws and the Wabeco drill stand will be very rigid. Thank you for pointing out my oversight.

I have tried that. The two screws you mentioned plus the depth limiter cannot hold the position when a 6 mm end mill cuts steel.
