Winter 1968 and showbiz legend Judy Garland arrives in Swinging London to perform a five-week sold-out run at The Talk of the Town. It is 30 years since she shot to global stardom in The Wizard of Oz, but if her voice has weakened, its dramatic intensity has only grown. As she prepares for the show, battles with management, charms musicians and reminisces with friends and adoring fans, her wit and warmth shine through. Even her dreams of love seem undimmed as she embarks on a whirlwind romance with Mickey Deans, her soon-to-be fifth husband. Featuring some of her best-known songs, the film celebrates the voice, the capacity for love, and the sheer pizzazz of "the world's greatest entertainer.

If she doesn't win it will be the biggest tragedy ever IMO...but there is one thing we should remember and that is that Renee doesn't get involved with Hollywood politics or that I'm aware of she doesn't. She stays out of the fray. Hollywood doesn't reward that. We should be prepared they won't give it to her, but to an actress in a role that's pushing political propaganda. The other situation is that Renee will get it and the academy will 'make up' for the loss of it by doubling up in the best actor category or supporting actor categories. Just wait.
She's a method actress channeling a diva. You can still hear Judy in her voice.
Interesting. I was actually thinking that it still sounds like Renee when she speaks in the film. Renee's voice and manner of speaking is so distinctive. Kind of hard to get away from that. Even so, she knocked it out of the park when singing and impersonating Judy's mannerisms.

Jodi Eniola Bell I'm sure they know about it. Lorna owns the rights to her mother's catalogue. Additionally, she produced the TV movie based on her book she wrote about her mom. The actress in that film looks nearly identical to her late mother. The resemblance is uncanny. She is not the singer that Renee is though

When I first heard that Renee Zellweger was going to play Judy I couldn't even imagine it. Then watching the film I saw her transform into Judy with all of her mannerisms and I was completely mesmerized by her. Just a wonderful performance in every way and she most definitely deserves to win the Oscar....I think it's wonderful that maybe younger people who don't remember Judy have seen this and will appreciate the brilliant performer she was and understand what she had to go through....Thank you Renee and I hope you get that Oscar !!

Renee Zellwegger has always been the type of actress that draws your attention. This film should be wonderful. Judy had a mixture of vulnerability and resilience that Renee could capture perfectly. Add in the fact that Renee did all of the vocals and you're possibly looking at an Oscar winning performance. It's good to see her back.

Unfortunately, the late great Judy Garland didn't always think highly of herself and suffered emotionally and was so abused by many in her short life! I remember her passing in 1969 the same year I lost my own mother at a similar age as Judy's two daughters. Rest in peace, Judy, you were one of the greatest soulful entertainers ever! She could do it all, act, sing, dance, top notch!!
Renee has a LOT of guts. And she can most DEFINITELY sing! She played Roxie Hart in Chicago after all. I CANNOT wait to see this. Very intriguing. This is the Judy Garland I have ALWAYS wanted to see a film of, the final years of her life, when she was SO BROKEN, yet kept going. That’s what made her SO special.

I would have held off on posting any comment before seeing anything. Even if it's Judy Davis. Or we can end up eating our words. I never really think much of Renee as an actress. I actually didn't like her in her movies, but after seeing her in Judy last night, I realized I was wrong for underestimating this actress.
Then I'm guessing you haven't seen Judy yet. I watched Me and My Shadows and I have no clue what people are talking about referring to Davis. I don't think Davis did credit to Garland whatsoever. All Davis does is resemble Garland a little, IMO.

Renee Zellweger was great right from the start in "Chicago" she scintillated and if it hadn't been for the Douglas dynasty in hollywood she would have won her first Oscar for her amazingly brilliant work in that film. Instead, it went to Catherine Zeta-Jones, and we all know why.
They were not competing with each other. Zeta-Jones won Supporting Actress. That year, Nicole Kidman won the Best Actress in a Leading Role Oscar for her work in THE HOURS, which is especially unfair since it was more of a supporting role. Renée was also nominated that year for Best Actress in a Leading Role.

I’m 66 years old and Frank and Judy was playing on my parents hi-fi. Yep young people, there was a time when all you get was from a record. I still have Judy’s album when she performed I think Carnegie Hall. I listen to it on my record player.

I always say, Judy taught me how to sing. Literally I would watch her movies over and over and copy her... Im hesitent of this movie because Liza didnt give the ok. But im also excited because its bringing Judy to a whole new generation. Renea I think will do an amazing job. Before you watch this tho, watch Me And My Shadows. They used Judys voiced but also mixed with some live vocals from the actors. Its my absolute favorite.
I'm not at all surprised that Liza didn't give the OK for this film of her incredibly talented mother. She, like most of the rest of Judy's Fans, would like to let her mother 'Rest In Peace'...Hollywood has no one and nothing to captivate most of us anymore! SAD!

I love RZ as an actress, seen many of her films. And so glad her looks seem back to what they used to be. Can't get over some of the pix taken that looked like someone else entirely. Once again she looks like the Renee from Jerry Maguire, Chicago, Cold Mountain, Down with Love, Bridget Jones, etc 👍
It's that squinty eye thing. It doesn't matter that they put dark brown contact lenses on her and a short wig... she still looks like Renee Zellweger. Renee will always be Bridget Jones first to me.
