    when you said "they can only be recorded on a computer because they are USB microphones" at 5:00 That is not completely true, if the USB microphone has a headphone monitor output that is analog audio that can plug into a camera through a 3.5 mm male-male AUX cable. That is if your camera has a microphone input.

    You make such great content and normally I wouldn't do this but I feel you can take some criticism......for a tech channel I really feel you need to have all the facts before you make a video and know 100% about the products you are showing. Reading voice patterns from the Mac is one example. Also this doesn't actually show what is the best mic for CZcams it just shows 4 mics that you have. What was the best? What would you suggest people get? These are just small niggles and don't get me wrong I love your content it's always great just think this tech stuff needs some polishing :)

    • @NicolasGomez97
      @NicolasGomez97 Před 8 lety

      I agree. He doesn't even really give comparison as to how these compare to other microphones out there. And his second example was way off from what the microphone was supposed to do. For CZcams I'd personally say that an xlr shotgun microphone (like the Rode NTG2 or AT897) running through a preamp into the DSLR is best for when you are recording a subject. If you are stationary near a desk then you can use those microphones with an audio interface like the scarlet 2i2. If you are doing voice overs then the USB AT2020 or Blue Yetti. Really shallow video in my opinion.

    Thank you Alex for the review. The only problem with the review is the background music. It covered up any flaws in the recording of the Mics. What I would have wanted to know is about background noise. Did either pick up too much background noise that Audacity had to reduce?

    Even with the annoying loop in the background, the Rhode sounds much better. To compare them, listen at around 7:48 which is when the Yeti's settings match the Rhode's. Some of the options on the Yeti make it a nice choice if you have a need for stereo or gain, and especially for me, the headphone plug in the front that's great if you have a person coming in on remote where they feed becomes a two-way discussion and speakers may cause a feedback loop.

    Blue Yetti is obviously more flexible and those polar patterns are great. The Rode only has a cardioid polar pattern but it's sound quality is better imho. The pop filter on the Rode is also an essential handy accessory that the Blue Yetti hasn't got, but you can pick up a cheap pop filter for that mic so it's not such a big deal.... I'd buy both for different situations- Rode for straight podcasting and Blue for instrumental and location recording.

    I can't exactly figure out why but I never liked the Blue Yeti. I ended up buying a Zoom H2N and it is absolutely wonderful. It has all of the features of a Yeti with the added benifit of being a battery powered recorder. It works as a USB mic too though. IMHO it sounds better as well. When using it as a recorder you have the option to record much higher detail recordings.

    The NT USB is miles in front in sound quality. The Yeti blew out plosives at around 7:07 (PPPPpretty much what it's doing is PPPPPPpicking up) it's also weaker in eh bottom and mid range pickup, your voice sounds a lot more natural through the NT USB because it picks up all the frequencies we'd hear when we hear you speak face to face.

  • @ComicalAwesomeness
    @ComicalAwesomeness Před 8 lety

    the blue yeti is an amazing microphone, I have had it for half a year and the range of options for a microphone for £100 is amazing and the build quality is really strong and satisfying, the only problem ive experienced is the weight of the microphone, I bought a mic stand for the microphone and it didn't hold up well and gradually lowered over a period of time, but I would say this is the best microphone if you vary on different videos from gaming to interviews etc.

    Hey there bro', I really liked your video. I'm a retired IT Pro and I've never gotten into the audio end of things so this is all new to me. I'm just setting up my first home studio CZcams setup so entry level equipment is required in order to get EVERYTHING I need. Now, onto shopping for upgrades. Currently I'm using an inexpensive, unbranded BM-800 condenser mic. I've also picked up an Alesis Multimix 4 USB FX Mixer with Phantom Power. I appreciate the ease of use with the USB mics, however, the cost of the device can be a bit out of line because with each one you're buying the same devices over and over built into each mic. With XLR a mic is just that and all signal processing is done by the existing modular hardware which will reduce cost of the mic replacement or give that little bit of financial wiggle room to get a better mic. That being said, I'm now looking at upgrading my BM-800 to something a little more studio grade such as MXL or the AT2020 etc. I'm looking to achieve that warm, radio announcer tone with low noise at an affordable price around $100 or less for a good looking quality SLR cardioid mic, any suggestions? Great video and I'll be subscribing and looking for more.

    I'm going with the Blue Yetti Michael, because you have more options with it which if you like to change things up sometimes you won't have to go buy a specific mic constantly. However I do feel that the Rode would be a more budgeted mic for someone just starting out. Granted I like to plan for the future so for the types of vids I'll be making Blue Yetti is perfect option and I really appreciate this video Alex! Definitely was a great help, keep doing your thing homie! Peace

    I have a rhode nt, and while it doesnt have the features of the Yeti, I think its a slightly crisper sound. Also (totally down to taste) it looks a bit sharper when connected to a shock mount mount and a boom arm with a nice little wind screen.

    I personally feel the Blue Yeti and the NT-USB have similar audio quality. It really depends on what you are hoping to do with the mic. Overall good video!

    i would say the Blue yeti is the king, its super simple to use (plug and play) and at a good price range and doesnt need a lot of extras

    The blue yeti is much better in therms of features and build quality, but if u want great quality audio right out of the box. Rode rocks the competition

    What would you recommend for two people doing gameplay commentary on a couch? I'm looking into getting a shotgun mic but it does seem a bit more complicated than the USB mics I'm more used to.

    Specifically designed for a USB computer.... Mkaay. You also definitely need a pop filter for the Blue Yeti I learned in this video, but it will not be necessary, because I will be buying the Rode NT

    why do you have studio backing tracks when you are reviewing outdoor audio quality?

    • @mattbigelow4355
      @mattbigelow4355 Před 8 lety

      i cannot hear the quality of your studio microphones when you constantly barrage me with studio backing tracks that have better audio quality than your own microphones.

  • @TonyBourke
    @TonyBourke Před 8 lety

    Rode is a bit better for quailty just a little to my ear anyway but the yeti is no push over the modes on the yeti makes it a better mic due to the different amount of modes which means more ability to such other types of work you may have or come across.

  • @HelloPatch
    @HelloPatch Před 8 lety

    I've always been biased towards the Rode NT, though I wonder if that's because of the aesthetics, rather than any particular features it has. The sound quality is quite a bit better though. I once did a Podcast in which the Blue Yeti would've been nice, but I think for a single user it'd work best. Would you say it's also more useful for doing reviews or would you stick with the on camera microphones for that?

    This was a great review! Very thorough and easy to follow for someone like me who is brand new to all the tech gear. The background music didn't bother me at all.
    Is there a way to use the camera mics with my iphone 6splus - in stereo? I have a converter cable but think that would covert the signal to mono too
    FYI i tried the Rode VideoMicMe boom w my phone but was not impressed for $60. I returned it and I'm looking to get a "real" mic now. I also have a camcorder, which I could obviously use the camera mic with
    Thanks!

    USB isn't the only way to record, you can get an interface and easily record with an xlr mic

    Thank you so much for a thorough review. I own the rode nt usb. I wasn't to happy with how extremely sensitive it is though. It's able to pick up sounds from downstairs and through walls. I might be doing something wrong that is causing that but I've read in general it tends to be very sensitive. It makes it kinda annoying though when using a keyboard the clicks are caught in the microphone.
    I've been looking into yeti mics recently and seeing how well they work.
    For your yeti microphone, did u find that it catches background sounds when you have it turned on the dial for just one direction facing you?
