nope, because capitalism. Disney shows an idealized upper middle class everywhere because if people knew how other people may also be struggling, they might unite and lets just say start singing "Solidarity Forever" or "Internationale" or "Which Side Are you one". And because mid to late 90s Disney had been the blueprint for writers today, everyone copies them.

That song “Brutal”, by Olivia Rodrigo went together so well with the introduction scene where we first see Eleanor driving on the interstate. It had such an ‘05 tone to it. I swear. Literally felt like a recollection of all the iconic teen movies I watched growing up.

This movie is more like "Clueless"(style & clothing wise), meets "Mean Girls" with a little "Cruel Intentions" thrown in.

For many years it seems like Hollywood tried to remake the magic movies like Mean Girls or Heatehers had, and even tho Do Revenge is far from perfect, it got the assignment right. It's funny, it's campy, it's cheesy, it's brutal, it's a little dark. I really enjoyed it and it's one of the best "teen movies" we've had in recent years.
It got uncomfortably dark for me. When Drea came home & Eleanor was in her house & started with her psychopathic threats & manipulation, I was genuinely afraid. It no longer seemed like a comedy to me, but had turned into something frightening. I felt Eleanor was dangerous. How obsessed with revenge do you have to be to play such a long game?

That's the point...everyone was grasping for something to save them. Even Drea when Eleanor blackmails her says "it will look bad if the rich white girl takes the scholarship from a girl of color". The point is to realize that even if you're part of a minority (Eleanor being queer and Drea being latina/poor), it's not an excuse for being mean.
The most unrealistic part: a mechanic being so upfront about a simple problem in Drea’s car.

@Bolia Fops one of the biggest points of the film is the securities you get with money. The cops wouldn’t have done anything about max cause there’s no definite proof and he’s rich. And if Eleanor told the cops about the drugs, drea would be arrested- not sent to a rehab facility like carissa or one of the other rich kids. So, cops were def not an option for her

I completely agree with the end almost ruining it. Eleanor's personality switched so dramatically several times within such a short amount of time and then at the end her and Drea are just totally chill?? How are they so chill???

yep this is why I didn't give it a 5 star. it should have been a dark ending. the character of eleanor was unrealistic at the end. why would she be like a pendulum. like how can she forgive her so easily. she hit her with a car and then forgive her. like wtf🙂. this is what let down the film. but overall a refreshment and one of the better films this year. ENTERTAINMENT 10/10
it was a very rushed ending but the point of them staying friends at the end is that they decided they're both kinda equal levels of crazy, or as Drea calls it "fucked up soul mates" so it's kind of like a "i enjoy spending time with you and since we're even now let's keep spending time together" kind of thing. but i do agree a "oh my god we're the same person" ending would have made way more sense if Eleanor hadn't gone full psychopath and hit Drea with her car

Drea was awfully forgiving about being hit by a car. Sarah Michelle Gellar is definitely the reason I watched as I was expecting terrible acting but Camilla was genuinely good and funny in this. Overall I really liked it. But also, can we talk about Maya's blonde wig? Tragic.

When I saw Eleanor in the car of course I already knew that's the stereotype of lesbian girl so at that point I thought this will be one of those movies of friendship goes to romance. It surprised me a lot how Nora was actually a villain I totally didn't expect that each other were villains in the others story.

What I don’t think a lot of people get is that this movie is MEANT to be cringe. It’s simultaneously a parade and a tribute to the cheesy teen movies of the 90s. It is intentionally camp and that’s why I like it so much. It doesn’t really take itself seriously at all despite having some “dark” aspects because it’s a dark comedy. Yeah this movie has some flaws but the cringeyness is not one of them. If anything it would be more cringe if they tried to play this concept straight.
So inserting dialogue about the 'patriarchy', 'polyamoury is progressive' 'boys can release revenge porn with no legal consequences' 'bullying on full display is perfectly fine' 'hacking left & right is no big deal' are just dark comedy & campy? No. This was "the message" spread through a film. And those were just the bits Alex showed. Netflix is failing over this stuff. I'd never watch the stuff Alex reviews as it's usually silly. Yet it's all in fun if you like that kind of thing so each to their own. But this wasn't that. The world doesn't want it's sub money being spent on US far left political ideology. Sorry but that's what this was.

You could watch it as an anti-woke person and still laugh, Honestly it was the most realistic take on wokism because the actors saying those lines had to say them over the top, Picture a movie about the opposite view points and the movie makes it seem like the "movie" accepts those views because the characters do but the actors have to say the lines over the top, Usually its done to poke fun in secret.

It was nice to see a teen comedy with a different premise. Instead of Mean Girls or Clueless (Emma) this was Stranger on a Train.
I also really liked that even when the two leads started fighting it was clear they just wanted to be friends again.
The final act was a bit thrown together but at least it led us to the ending we wanted.
Sophie Turners small part was hilarious.

This movie is a really fun sort of meta satirizion of 90s high school dark comedies. And it gets immediate approval from me for including the literal goddess Sarah Michelle Gellar. She is a fantastic actor and she still looks sensational!

I watched this movie just yesterday. I couldn't tell if I liked it or hated it. Tbh I liked the plot twist. It was so unexpected. The ending was also pretty satisfying. But some of it was cringey. I still have a love-hate relationship with it

Camila Mendes is super underrated as an actor and in terms of her comedic timing. She was also so good in 'Palm springs' as she wasn't the lead but gave such a great performance.

One moment before drea forgave Nora (eleanor) Nora said that she thought Drea changed as she told the truth to her (at the birthday party nora decided she didnt change). That's why I think it's not hard to understand how quick Nora changed her mind about Drea at the end because Drea was in her changing phase but I can't deny they are both crazy. All in all it's about exactly this friendship

Let me just say that's it understated how devastating it is to get outed as a lesbian when you were so young. Of course this movie exaggerates things and Eleanor goes to stupid lengths to get revenge, but what happened to her not only hurt her in the moment but also most likely ruined her development as a budding queer person. This is the video that made me realize Alex Meyers is actually a millennial and thats coming from someone who is about to turn 25. Not understanding the fashion, undermining the severity of not just outing someone but also making them a predator, the whole point is that they are equally bad to each other and idk, after realizing that every other critique feels force because this is like a really good movie.

I’m not into some of his takes on it, especially the stuff about Maya’s character being forcibly outed and treated like a predator. I’m gay and absolutely lost friends at that age because people spread rumors about me be predatory toward my friends, and that was ages before I ever got the courage to come out.

It's absolutely hilarious seeing Maya Hawke calmly sitting in the tub with a glass of champagne jamming to the Pom Pom Squad(yes....that is the name of the group believe it or not), while she stares off to the side surrounded by lots of candles, roses, and (for some weird reason)2 lizards.

No, the ending is absolutely perfect if you ever watched Sarah Michelle Geller’s 90s teen classic Cruel Intentions and loved it as much as I did. That ending is a direct hommage to that movie and I honestly thought that that was Do Revenge’s biggest inspiration (I mean… Sarah Michelle Gellar even plays someone who could be grown up Catherine Meurteil). Nah, this movie was probably the best teen movie I’d seen since To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before and is probably better written than many of my nostalgia favs.

I watched this movie last night and OMG, that plot twist about it all being a revenge plot by Eleanor from the very first moment blew my mind! The patriarchy bit at the end, personally, we could have done without, but whatever. And here I thought creativity was dead, but, I guess there's still some creative people out there in Hollywood

I'm glad you brought up how a bad show/movie does not make a bad actor. I know there's specifically plenty of voice actors who are pretty much legends in the industry yet they get cast in some really awful crap just to get a paycheck between bigger jobs.
The industry as a whole seems to be messed up, especially with companies like Netflix making bad movies and shows for cash grabs, with the occasional good thing if the right people are involved.

What got me about the ending was how Eleanor completely just gave up everything at the last party all because Drea made fun of her old nose. Like WHAT? We JUST got the big reveal and she seems like she’s gunna be like big bad monster villain but then she just cries about her nose and then that’s all forgotten
Little lesson in psychology: psychopaths look like cold snakes but they have fear. All 3 main characters are psychopaths villains. Each of them has his own fear. This movie is wicked, all of them are pieces of shit. Money and power are a shield. The crowd follow hate and power.
It clearly wasn't about the nose.... there was an entire sequence of her in front of the mirror regretting everything and realizing that she actually really liked being friends with Drea but believing that she's gone too far to turn back now. But after Drea apologized when they both realized that no, it's not too late to turn back, they decided to let bygones be bygones and forgive each other instead.

I like your observation. It's just that they are so mercurial! In a little over a minute, we went from Eleanor being all manipulative & psycho toward Drea, then Drea getting control by pointing out the nose job, Eleanor running off crying, then Drea IMMEDIATELY runs after Eleanor. I hope this isn't the beginning of Maya Hawke getting typecast. Mild serial killer vibes aside, she's basically just still playing Robin. We even JUST had a "popular girl makes Maya wear girly clothes and she hates it, how funny" scene last season in Stranger Things.

I watched it yesterday with no expectation, and I was pleasantly surprised by its quality and scenario. Netflix is not always on point, but they did well with this movie. And I absolutely love how we went from the classic teenage movie to something darker 😍
I personally loved having so many actors who made it big with shows on different streaming services come together in one movie. It was quite fun to see, I want more of this!

Also for a movie that’s supposed to be with “today’s time” for example when Max twisted his cheating into being polyamorous and everyone accepting that, I found it unrealistic that Drea would be sl*t shamed????? Realistically everyone would be on her side
realistically, drea was the popular cool girl in school, and had everyone talking about her, i find it realistic that they didn't take her side, because people are usually finding a way to excuse their jealousy hate towards someone, and once they find something, they run with it no matter if its true or not,
I thought the same, but I thought this was pretty realistic as well. I am a little older and have seen in various social spheres how people actions in a given moment often don't align with what they claim they believe or hashtag on social media.
Also, those people want to believe max is good, but they were all jealous of Drea so of course they would want to see her demise.

Tbh I only wanted to watch this because of Maya and Camila. Originally I thought this was going to be a show not a movie (bc Netflix didn't promote it properly) and that they were going to start a revenge ring where they help each other and slowly accumulate girls to take down the whole school (plus Maya and Camila's characters slowly fall in love and end up together), so I was a little disappointed it was only a movie but I was pleasantly surprised at how stupid fun it was. It still has the awkward Riverdale "let's reference a bunch of things that not everyone will understand" nonsense and they didn't end up together, but I love everything about Maya's character and how all the hints were there for the viewer to figure out.
The one thing I didn't get was why throw her ex-girlfriend under the bus but honestly, she already self-identified as a psychopath so I guess it doesn't matter since she was willing to do anything to take Drea down.
my thoughts exactly, I also thought it was going to be a show and seemed to be promoted in a way that made me think maya and camilas characters were going to fall in love. halfway through the movie I realized that wasn’t going to happen and just left me disappointed. I probably would’ve liked the movie much better not knowing anything about it beforehand

This movie was really enjoyable for me. Made me laugh. The absurdity of it all, plus they didn’t make all the characters really cringe with outdated references. Erica was a blast, and I really enjoyed the dynamic between Eleanor and Drea.

I agree that Eleanor's reaction was a bit.. intense. But as someone who put herself through hell for years because of mean ex best friends in middle school, I kinda get it. Wouldn't hit her with a car today but wouldn't have minded at the time if she got a teeny little push from a school bus.
The plot twist got me, it was pretty clever but tbh... the plot was ALL over the place, it wasn't sure what it was doing the whole time and tons of threads just...got forgotten. Plus the bad guy was so blatantly bad, it sounded like a cartoon villain story
i honestly kinda wished they stuck together, to take down Max till the end, like they threaten each other as they uncover the past but still work together to take Max down.

The project changes everything. The sparkly boy from Twilight ended up being my favorite Batman. Didn't expect that one.
I love this movie. Really enjoyed it. I know some people are confused how Drea and Eleanor forgave each other so easily, but i think it's simple: They both really liked being friends with one another, and just let bygones be bygones. If both are willing to forgive each other, and both accepted the other person's apology, then why is it bad. They realized holding on to grudges wasn't healthy. And sure, they are both fucked up in their own ways, but it works for them. I liked it. You don't see many relationships where they do this type of stuff of being mean, then forgiving, then just letting the past stay in the past. It's a nice change of pace.

I think it's the SUDDENNESS of the change, not the forgiving itself. With time, one can forgive those who have wronged them. Plus, being obsessed with a person (hate) is only wasting your own precious time & energy that could be devoted to productive things. But that doesn't happen within the course of minutes or an hour!

People don't really care about how poor or rich your friends are. But, people usually care about who pays for who when people go out, so it comes up cause people don't get invited to do things, but it's not as prevalent as I think it might have been before I went to school

For my experience we didn't really have that rich and poor kind of groups because literally every one who went to the school had to be rich of some kind, but then we had this thing where we have the super rich and the ok rich which also wasn't really a boundary but then it also got to if you where invited to a party or not

My freinds always payed for whoever couldnt and there was no expectation to pay it back, despite us being a pretty poor group of freinds. Being the only one not able to afford going out was never really an issue back in highschool. Im not sure if it was common or not, nor am i sure if that commonly still happens today, but im incredibly greatful for that. Were still a pretty tight group.
