Go Boston! Celtic Pride Shall Rise Again 🙌
Love Bird...but....not one time did he mention what older people find wrong with the NBA, the defense!. That's why these players putting up these numbers. They play what i call matador defense
@@Dennis-bu9gr he was making a point, not a debate 😂
Legend has been an ambassador of the sport since 1979. He is making a point to say that the league, although it has evolved, is still in good hands. Magic and Larry saved the league. He just wants todays players to keep it going.
@@Dennis-bu9gr wow good one. Did you come up with that?
“Keep the game the way you found it and it can go on for generations.“

Wow, Larry just complimented an entire generation of NBA players.
Class act!
@PaulOutside theWalls nah he complimented multiple generations. And the is more impressive
AMEN 🔥
Yes, he complimented an entire generation of weak players.
He probably was paid to say that.. or told to. Because there's other interviews where he contradicts that statement..magic too, plus he was boiling his skin when he saw LeBron James traveling in a game and the refs said nothing about it 😅
@@christianhenry4173what interview give us a link.
I’m sure Larry knows firsthand what it’s like to be dismissed or invalidated by the previous generation. Imagine what players from the ‘60s and ‘70s felt like seeing a 6’9” forward play the game the way he did. When Larry came into the league, 6’9” forwards set screens, grabbed rebounds, and hit the occasional jump hook. Nice to see Larry appreciate the younger guys continue to expand the game.
That's why he see through the crap his generation is kicking.. That's why Larry Bird won like he did cause he got it.. He probably heard the same crap from people talking about his era in a negative light..
More like 6'10 with a 7-6 wingspan. Larry shrinks the court and makes it difficult the way Durant does today.
@@jsun3117true, larry with less athleticism and more strength as that's just how the nature of the game and being great is between the generations. Also, although I never watched Larry live bc I'm young I've watched some highlights and id say KD is a little better at creating more space through dribble moves and athleticism than Larry, where Larry was a better shooter when smothered than KD. Other than those differences (and id say differences in mentality and how much they demand to be used) they really are the same exact players I think.
You need to watch more Bill Russell games or even just highlights of him on offense. *Mr.Russell is nearly identical for total winshares compared to Shaq’s best 13 seasons!* (And… he did all that while literally having his home crowd boo against him, his family home being a prime target of the local KKK & other anti-civil rights groups; and personally setting up one of the most important face-to-face meetings in US political history. The first meeting between MLK’s group and the sitting US President. The President & his predecessor who had reneged on their campaign promise to implement the Civil Rights act within their first year. )
Russell didn’t just slowdown 7’ Centers(like Wilt), SFs like Elgin Baylor, and win 11 rings based on his defense. He was just as athletic as Wilt but played the game the right way, where the only stat that mattered was who’s team won. There is a highlight clip of 26yr old Russell going coast-to-coast and jumping over a 6’6 player to dunk, here on CZcams.

Larry doesn't need to compliment himself, because everyone else does it for him. He just praises others and lets others speak for his legacy. A true sign of greatness.

Yeah, because you can take 85 steps before dribbling the ball, have moving screens, palm the ball, get blown on by someone on the bench, and a foul will be called. The game is weak in comparison to the 80's and 90's.
@@dickgrayson4325 everyone makes the same argument with how the game is weak now, just because offense has evolved since then doesn’t make the league weak, offense has become so strong now that even elite defenses can’t keep up with it, just because defense was more physical back then doesn’t mean it would hold up any better against todays offense, anyone with an actual basketball iq of honestly just basic knowledge of the game can understand this

Truth. Watch an NBA game from the 80’s. Then watch an NBA game from today. The difference in athleticism is startling. Just as the difference between the 80s and 50s was. Nostalgia is a killer drug.
Undeniably so. There are a few all-time greats who could absolutely hang with today's players and still be All-Stars today - Chamberlain, Bird, Russell, Magic, Kareem, Jordan of course - but on the whole the ballplayers today are bigger, smarter, faster, quicker......pretty much superior by all the metrics you can imagine.
The '22-'23 Pistons, worst team in the league, would probably take the '89-'90 championship Bad Boy Pistons in five games. At least if they played by today's rules where the Bad Boys wouldn't be allowed to play prison ball and literally assault them on the court, lol.
Another reason why I love Larry. He was a bad motherfucker in his era and he respects these new players

The man has never stopped loving the game.
Is spoken like a true professional
I agree and while it’s a different era, they are better in other areas like shooting from deep and going at a faster pace. I grew up when they were slower but much stronger and powerful in the paint. Every basket was gonna hurt which is why people like MJ, Kobe and others all learned to fake going to the hole and then fade back and shoot. Then the newer guys started really expanding the three points shots from close to and from half court. It’s was more physical as far as being a rougher game back then but the newer guys are certainly more athletic and better conditioned these days.
