Which I get too I guess? My gripes are when they will take down a fan game cause there’s some sort of weird competitive angle, Like with AM2R, I feel like they just couldn’t compete with the quality of that so they axed it, which I think is super lame, competition makes better products.

    If you are considering playing this game, I do advise you to be careful with what you choose and do. Choosing a type like Dragon or Psychic can lead to some early game softlocks as you won't be able to beat the dark type Roughneck battle (Psychic) or find particularly strong alternates to your starter (Dragon) until much later in the game.
    1: Ground, as shown in this video, is one of the best types in the game as so many pokemon can learn Earthquake AND it has decent starter options. Other decent early game types include Fire, Fighting (since so many of the early game fights are dark types), Steel (a bunch of steel types got regional forms with alternate typings like Steelix is a Fire/Steel and Aggron is Dragon/Steel), and Water.
    2: Look up who the starter pokemon are for each type. This alone can save you a ton of headache. Once you choose your starter, you CANNOT get any other starter pokemon of any type for the rest of the game or until the extreme late game when you can go on holiday. This means that if you choose Water, you can't get a Lapras because that's one of the Ice starters, or if you choose dragon, you can never get a Kingdra because Horsea is a Water Starter. A big one is if you choose Ground, you can't get a Garchomp because Gible is a Dragon starter.
    3: Some types have a really hard early game. Dragon and Psychic I already talked about.
    4: Be careful fighting overworld trainers. They can be quite highly leveled compared to you early game, and it IS possible to softlock in this game if you run out of money before you catch three pokemon and you don't have anymore pokeballs. The catch rates are quite low for some types, so keep that in mind when trying to catch new team members.
    5: The lady who gives you a Regional Starter will do so based on what number and area you choose when talking to her. So choosing 1 and "The Beach" she will give you a Squirtle. I believe the game was patched so that this pokemon can learn your Gym's signature TM no matter what, so like a Primarina can learn Dragon claw if you are Dragon player etc. So just choose whichever one you want or will help your team.
    6: Who you choose to be your Gym Greeter is important. Choosing the Gym Guy will result in a balanced reputation growth, choosing the Boy will result in a slower reputation growth but easier trainers, and choosing the Girl will result in faster reputation growth BUT you will more frequently face random trainers with higher level than normal pokemon. This choice also determines a quest you get later.
    7: Because I just watched that part of the video, Make sure you are ready to fight Edgar before you go battle him. Losing to him is an instant Game Over.

      I will say Gym Girl Guide is also the only one who gives you a bonus "Trainer" in Jacob but really he's honestly just a creep who won't stop staring at her, no idea how to reject his letter completely. Overall I love the game, its insanely replayable with each type and overall it is an odd sort of joy, its insanely simple in concept but actually engaging in practice since you can't just use whatever you want and actually have to consider what you're picking up, say for instance using an Aegislash as a steel type leader to handle your fighting weakness, or grabbing a Piplup early on from the Riddle Lady to get a Water Steel type to handle fire types. Would love to see this game way more fleshed out and expanded on but for now its perfectly fine.

      Wish I read this before I picked up the game lol I very nearly got softlocked as a dragon leader because dragon catch rates are rough but got incredibly lucky finding a big nugget to get 20k worth of pokeballs and potions
      As far as I can tell the regional starter cannot always learn your signature move unless I somehow picked up an old version but this is some solid advice!

    • @Aleph3575
      @Aleph3575 Před rokem +9

      @@orioninfernal7269 Yeah that happened to me when I was doing a Dragon leader run too and I try to let people know whenever a youtuber I follow does a video on this game because it is VERY enticing to do a Dragon type playthrough because it SEEMS like you're set since you get your choice of pseudo-legendary to start the game off AND you get a strong attack in Dragon Claw as well. But then you end up losing to a trainer or two on the way to the dragon's den, or even dying to a pokemon you were trying to catch, and congrats! Soft Lock City. Better fucking restart and try again scrub. I do want to place an emphasis on the "I believe" part, because I have seen some conflicting reports on the regional starters too. It's kinda annoying since the lady literally tells you that the pokemon you get from her are specially bred to learn moves they wouldn't normally learn but it is what it is.
      @Cole The Flame: Yeah I really like this game too. There really is so much replayability that the game feels so different if you go play as like a fairy type as opposed to a normal type gym leader and so on. I kinda wish the early game was bit more fleshed out, on top of it being SUPER grindy. There's also no real sweet spot in the difficulty either. You're either underleveled and struggle or you grinded Bliss so much that she calls you Daddy now and you're 20 levels over everyone one shotting Eddie's pseudo-legendary team. .

      Like, #1 rule of playing hard and/or unique fangames: Save when you know you're not screwed, and only save again when things are going well.
      Also, the sheer amount of stuff that can learn dragon claw uh... shouldn't make dragon type at all difficult. I'm not sure which gen this game actually goes up to, but like... scraggy, salandit, pangoro, archen, krokorok, aggron, the charmander and totodile lines, aerodactyl, T-tar... that's a pretty decent mix of available options across multiple other types.
      Also... coverage moves are like... a thing for psychic type. SO many psychic types learn other move types fairly early.
      I understand your "concerns" but like... it really only applies to people that are like... really, REALLY bad at pokemon.

      Ice is honestly worst than Bug. If it weren't for the fact that before Gen VI it was the only type besides dragon to hit dragon for super-effective damage, it would have next to no redeeming qualities. It has no resistances to anything besides ice, a huge amount of weaknesses, besides dragon it only hits types for super-effective damage that already have plenty of weaknesses, they have a small and kind of weak movepool, no reliable way of freezing (which is silly since freezing after gen I does the same as sleep and you have so many moves that reliably sleep pokemon) and to top it all off they have some honestly pretty weak pokemon. Depending on the gen you can get some decent ones, but honestly so many pokemon can learn blizzard or ice beam that ice coverage is always easy to have, without needing to give up a team slot for a mid pokemon, or one who will usually rely on its secondary typing and only have ice as a bonus, like froslass or mamoswine. And let's be honest, bug type has some amazing pokemon, like volcarona, heracross, forretress, scizor.

It hits grass which defensively is full of weaknesses, flying which also has very common weaknesses in electric and rock, and ground which also gets hit by water, one of the most used types. Part of the problem is the way that the level scaling works, which means that unless you catch a bunch of low-level Pokémon in the early game, you are very quickly not going to be able to find anything under level 30 which kinda sucks when the bread and butter of trainers coming to your gym are hovering in the low to mid 20s and you’ve accidentally power leveled your starter to like 48, so the only Pokémon that you can catch are in the high 40s and low 50s

    With the switch to 3d (among other reasons) I don't think it would ever happen, because it's only feasible in a 2D-style with sprites and a grid-style like RPG Maker allows. But I'd still play the hell out of that game.

      I came to appreciate and heavily respect them ever since the pokemon unbound inverse normal type gym.

      I love normal types due to their insane coverage and versatility.

    I would run a grass-type gym. And I mean like one from the anime. Like, it has a freakin greenhouse in it. Also outside of the battlefield, all fire types with open flames have to remain in their ball. For safety reasons I mean there's trees everywhere.

    I am torn between the two great loves of my life; Ghost-types and Fighting-types.
    On the one hand, Ghost is one of the stronger types and I respect the creepy and tragic aesthetic and lore of Ghost-types more than any other.
    On the other hand, I love the spirit of Fighting-types, representing the drive to better yourself and overcome adversity, to the point where seeing a pure Fighting-type trainer overcome the type weaknesses that have plagued them since Gen 1 has always been a fantasy of mine when it comes to Pokemon.
    I mean if Bruno taking on an Onix with his bare hands doesn't get you hyped, nothing will.

      I played this game with a ghost type team and it was really fun. The early game was nearly impossible because of all the dark types and the limited encounters, but it's manageable. You can make a pretty stacked team with ghosts in this game too.

    • @Aleph3575
      @Aleph3575 Před rokem +3

      Ghost is tough but unlike some other types, the game is pretty rewarding as a Ghost Trainer. I think Misdreavous becomes a fire type as well upon evolving AND the game adds a third evolution for it that is based on affection, so you can get a pretty early Tier 3 fully evolved Misdreavous with Ghost/Fire typing fairly early in the game.

    I played as a Dragon-Type Gym Leader and had a blast with this game; I even managed to get high leveled Pokémon based on the LV Grinding I did with the Blissey Trainer. Overall this game was pretty addicting as I managed to become pretty much unbeatable but the most challenging trainer in this game had to be, of course, the Hiker with a freaking Tyranitar as that pokemon was pretty much a huge tank

    • @Aleph3575
      @Aleph3575 Před rokem +4

      Idk some of those late game story battles are fucking rough. Edgar with his team of pseudo-legendaries can be a pain for even an overleveled team, not to mention losing to him is an instant-game over with no retry. The final story boss is alright, but I'd say the real hardest enemy is the secret trainer at the very end of the game with a full level 99 team (Level 100 causes the game to crash for some reason).

    • @ColetheFlame01

      fun fact about that tyranitar, it only knows Thrash and Sandstorm apparently. how do I know? cause my first 3 times fighting him I won everytime with an Aegislash. Or have it to where once you have a team of a certain level you become the secret end game boss.
    As it turns out, Issac’s condition is healed or at least nulled when hes around pokemon of whatever gym type you run so you pass the torch of gym leader to him while you are part of the E4, Champion or hidden boss.
