Giro d'Italia Stage 9 2024 - Sport
“Unless something magical happens…” Agree, Pogacar happened.
I gotta say the arrow work is fantastic. Always pointing to the right thing.
Nothing worse than a lazy arrow
Pogi doing a little Z4 interval on a easy stage not to fall asleep and hook up molano 😂
Exactly 👊🦋
Best arrows in the business!
Your arrows with stills are clearer than the best slow motion. Thank you.
Garrett’s work. 👊🦋
I hope Garrett's getting more than minimum wage, you'd be lost without him
Pogacar's lead out skills were incredible I mean that gap that he closed down was crazy cause Narvaez looked to have a good enough gap to hold on but with Pogacar and his speed yea that's what ended it for Narvaez.😳🦋🦋
50 meters to short. Ouch. Pogi gave one stage to Narvaez and took one away. 😳😜🦋💪👊
Watching Tadej on his bike, reminds me of being 10 years old again, riding my Stingray to the beach, with a friend on the handlebars. 🦋
Hehehe. 👊🦋🏝️🏖️🩳👙☀️🌊
What a class act putting it out there for his teammate . But would you expect anything else. Pulling up front for his mate and having fun at the same time. Love this kid. Have to say I only saw about the last 45km or so and it was great. As usual seeing your review is the only way to end my day. Don't know what I'll do with myself tomorrow with no race and no Chris. Ride on.
Chris should be a director of an American team that would be so cool he's young and has that energy and you know he's seen and been around the best of the World!
Best channel on CZcams ❤💪

Love the channel Chris!! Keep it up!
Sprinters got lucky today that Pog decided to do the last pull to bring back Narvaez! Payback for stage 1, baby! It was a jaw dropping finale to a relatively uneventful race. Kudos to Olav Kooij for opening his grand tour account! Boy, can he sprint with the big boys!
What an end to the first week! Thanks for all the race analysis, Chris!
I thought you were going to call Pogi a knucklehead for being a part of the lead out for Molano along with making fun of UAE for bringing a sprinter to a GC battle. I was nervous watching Pogi filter back through the field after his pull!. 😅
Also, you've integrated BuyCycling ads into your videos really well! It's informative without being annoying. 👍
I called UAE knucklehead so many times for bring Molano already in the early races that since it’s a sprinters stage I figured I would go easy on them. 😜🦋👊
What a wild finish, that was great! Oh, and Tadej's also the strongest lead out man in the peloton, unreal. The stage is not over until
you break it down, great job Chris!
👊🦋🙏
Stage 1 : Narvaez only sucked Pogacar's wheel and won the stage. Pogacar remembered it......
Booyah! I thought exactly the same thing! Payback time! 😂
I'm not sure Pogacar is that vindictive, we have seen other GC riders getting involved with the leadout Remco, G I think there are some guys who just like to be in the thick of all the action, and its always a great spectacle.
Hehehe. Probably 🔥🦋👊
A huge vindictive pull, pogi. He wanted to wear pink for 21 days n Nav spoiled it
@@TheMrbrooksteryeah, It wasn't that. He was going to be caught regardless.
This was a fun stage to watch.
👊🦋
I watch the race, then I watch your channel to understand what I just saw. I was baffled by Alaphilipe though so maybe I'm learning.
COUCH????? 😆😉🦋👊
BTW Garrett, good arrow work 👍
I was bonking hard. I got to remember to eat before the video when it’s a long stage. 😂🦋👊
Just a snickers and a coke
@@pierremaggi8661just make sure the coke is flat 😜
Your reviews are just the best. GNC or WEDO are not even close (except maybe Johan's takes). I'm not disappointed anymore if I miss a race live stream as I can always be excited waiting for your review.
I can't remember ever seeing a GC leader doing lead-outs. Not that common, surely? But I guess that shows how much Tadej loves racing.
Wiggins 2012 for Cav on the Champ E was probably the best and well worked example...
I do remember… Jan Ulrich did this more than once for Zabel, G did it for Cavendish
The first British yellow jersey leading out the British rainbow jersey. It won’t happen again.
Thomas leading cavandish last year....if it counts
Thanks, Chris!
👊🦋
best breakdowns by far!
👊🦋🙏
I saw him do it and though, can’t wait for Chris to break it down
Your 1km run in on a sprint finish is second to none. How you do that with stills is really impressive 👊🦋
I love when you use those old jerseys
👊🦋
This Olaf kid can push power! 😳🤯🦿🦾🚴♀️
Pog was an arrowhead today, not a knucklehead. It's also nice to see sprints being contested evenly amongst teams thus far, with no one truly dominant, though Milan has been the most consistent.
I like that. Arrowhead 👊🦋🏹
Narvaez needed a 20 seconds to win the stage. I think it was a verry brave move from Narvaez. And yes 1 stage Narvaez sucked in Pogacars wheels, but it cost him a lot of effort to do it ! ! ! ! If it was so easy to suck in pogacars wheels why the other riders didnt do it ???? Because nobody else could follow Pogi in the first stage to the finnish.
So thanks to Narvaez we had somme excitement .
I have to give Pogi credits, only once last years I saw the leader of a grand tour spending energy with a attack ... The other guy in the yellow jersey who attacked was Wout Van aert in the big tour. Wout attacked 5 km before the finnish and could holf of a sprinting peleton while making flying moves with his arms when he crossed the finnish. Last 10 years I saw no leaders in the general classification attacking ! This is why I like pogacar and somm other riders, they always wanna race .
Is it smart ? no , is it spectacular ? YES !
Went to buycycle...thx
👊🦋🚲
My friend Luke is killing it! Taught him everything he knows, lol.
I'm surprised Qckstp arent giving him better leadout support since Merlier isnt feeling it. Julien race I.Q. has literally fell off of a cliff. Luke Lamperti is their best hope for another stg. win.
Jedi in the making. 😂🦋👊
@@M3Atelier-InitiativeJA will win the most knucklehead rider of giro for sure
@@M3Atelier-Initiative JA has never had great race IQ in my estimation, he just isn't young enough in the legs to make it pay off anymore when he does ridiculous things
It’s his first major tour race is it not? When I heard Chris mention his name as he was up there with the big dogs, my ears perked up. Best of luck Luke! Need some strong representation from the U.S. this year.
It was nice of Pogacar to provide a nice lead out for all the sprinters today. It must have been a gesture of appreciation towards all the teams who have worked so hard to secure wins for Pogacar in the past.
Poor Narvaez. Pogi came on fire for that final 600 meters. 🥲😱🦋🚀
@@ChrisHornerCyclinghe paid back for stage 1 he thought he sucked pogi’s wheel for nothing 😂he didn’t see that coming 😂
I thought “Johnny” Milan was going to break his frame or cockpit, wrenching it that hard. 😳
No one can accuse me of being any kind of Pog fan, but this absolutely blew my mind. He pulled a whole ass bunch which is a super dangerous thing to do in the leader's jersey.
Is it? He’s out in clear free road
@@robertm1552 he's probably referring to needing to save his legs for later, not it being a safety thing.
He's bored from too much zone 1 riding😂
No one’s coming close to him, why would any he does now matter?
@@robertm1552 True, but then he has to peel off and get swallowed by the sprinters and the group behind them. There's a reason they take the GC time before the line on a sprint stage, it's just so dangerous for them to be bumping around up there.
Maybe… “coming like an express train” is a better analogy than “coming like a freight train”😂😂😂😂
HAHA! Good perception!
Alaphilippe keeps writing checks his body can't cash.
He's been busted, he's lost his qualifications as team leader three times.
Yep. 😬🦋💣
@@starkparker16 but how is he with Admirals daughters?
@@joelronningen9930 Julian has made some high speed passes
I thought you were gonna frown on Tadej burning a match with that late pull. Every effort counts in a GT, right?
Chris I am right with CD1400. There is the Giro to get through and a little ride through France coming up. Rest day thoughts on how you think Tadej should be managing his efforts and mixing it up in the sprint stages?
Nah. Better to be at the front on stage like today then back there getting crashed on these crazy roads. Yikes that was a scary descent. 😲🦋👍
Poogi just playing around now
@chrishornercycling your advice to Pogi to slow it down so Milano can leverage his speed, would have have caught Narvaez had they employed that tactic? It was definitely close.
From the photos here on the Butterfly Effect, it looks like Milan deviated his line from right to left just before passing Narvaez. I'll have to go back and watch the video to be sure... he didn't win the stage, so no relegation I guess, but the way your video presents it, he looks like he really moved significantly across the road in the final 150.
Bradley Wiggins (Sky) made a similar action for Mark Cavendish in TdF while wearing the yellow jersey 2012 or 2013. But not in front of the finish line. Pulling the peloton must be the safest place before the sprinters take off😊
Remember last year when G did the same thing at the Giro. And they where not even on the same team 😅
I'm surprised Pogocar didn't win the bunch sprint...
lol
If he could push over 2.5kW for over 10s he might have had a chance 😂. Not even the guy he was leading out could match the two freight trains that won the sprint
Unless it’s a steep uphill sprint, other wise no, Pogi not going to beat those huge sprint specialists.
First thing that came to mind also when I saw him hit the front. This maybe stage 4 win. 😂👊🦋💪

Kudos for not bashing UAE and Pogacar!
Milan need to stop yo-yoing his upper body and head, lots of energy not driving bike forward.
B&B Hotels wanting to throw hands. Samsic loving it though.
The kid is good. 👊🦋💪
First grand tour stage win for Kooij. Ewan still doesnt cut it after a change of teams.
Why pogagcar is NOT resting in this stage?
he was - that one short effort did not hurt him
Great show by Tadej! Except it seems a little more selfish than it appears. If it wasnt for him, I dont think Kooij & Milan get there! He was going so fast; but never looking to see if Mulano or Ruiz were behind him! He brought Lidl Trek to the front, and they brought Kooij to the line! Oh, and those guys gave Mulano a ride, not Pogi!
SC for Lidel-Trek….very good
Trek did a very good job. No doubt 🦋👊
Noting that other teams left the 2 Polti riders hanging out to dry: yeah, it was a dumb move and the team got the TV time, but wondering if Pietrobon's lack of contribution to the Stage 5 break and then attempting flyer at the end will come back to bite them?
Hardly a dumb move those boys would have got some bonus cash taking the inter Giro sprints and Monte De Procida climb. More than covers the Beers and Pizza's in Napoli today. Sometimes this is the best the div2 teams can hope for.
Chris, what we all want to know is: can you palm a regulation basketball?
😊
3ATGL podium 👊🦋👊🦋🦋🦋🦋🦋🦋🦋😄
Couch?
For me Julian Alaphilippe is the new Thomas Voeckler - the most entertaining rider in the peleton. Do their tactics make sense, probably not. Do you hear their names in every race yes. You do know is that in every race you can/could count on these racers to be in the spotlight at some point.
Hey Chris. How are grand tour stages chosen as in routes, elevation, distance, etc.?
The cities pay for the routes to pass thru their town which helps make the routes. Of course the organizers really want 6-10 mountains stage some middle size stage and some sprinter stages. Then they always put a TT or two in there. 🤔👊🦋
I'm waiting for all this extra work to backfire for POGI, its happened before.
Pogacar is streets ahead of the field and can win the Giro if he's aggressive, or conservative - doesn't matter. The more bullets he spends here, the better Primoz and Remco must feel about their chances in July.
If Primoz and Remco want to feel good about their chances, they'd better not watch Pogi at all.
I want to be your agent.
I was thinking Ganna might try what Narvaez did~and maybe Pog might've let him go!😂 But not Narvaez~😏
Hehehe. Pogi revenge 🔥🦋👊💪
Is this not a rdiculous thing for a GC contender let alone favorite to do? Burning matches and taking risks that have very low payoff?
Today was he staying safe I bet. 🤔🦋👊
They can all thank Pogi and Narvaez can blame him. lol What can't Pogi do? Geez!
Yes they should. Except Narvaez. Even the other Ineos riders can thank Pogi for at least making the finish safer by stringing out the peloton. 😂🦋💪👊
Lamperti swinging for the fences. He needs just one guy to set him up and I'm pretty confidant he could burn past the magenta jersey in a sprint. Until Julien fixes his race I.Q. problem, Quickstep should push their chips in for the american rookie.
Lamperti doesn't have close to enough speed to beat Milan. Maybe later he will develop it but not now
@@rafalpruszynski1707 I would strongly disagree. If given a couple of dedicated riders to his sprint, he will 100% toast milan. I think the 1-2 tandem of Lamperti and Magnier would smoke most of the seasoned riders in the pro-ranks.
It would be nice to see. 👊🦋
You are all knuckleheads. Pogi wasn’t leading out his teammate; he was leading out all sprinters to exact revenge on Narvaez by making sure Narvaez was caught.
Pogi was near the front and saw Narvaez attack and get a gap. Pogi was merely monitoring the gap by staying super near the front (Chris said he was too close) so that he could close the gap if needed. And it was needed.
As time was running out, Pogi saw they were NOT going to catch. So Pogi pulled out of line into the wind, passed a few (without his teammate on his wheel) then gave 💯 to make sure they passed Narvaez.
As it was, they passed Narvaez only about 1 second before the line. So, even with Pogi’s super pull, the sprinters only won by the hair of their chinny chin chins.
Revenge, in the context of sport, fair play, and not harming another, is sweet indeed. Do you not think Pogi was passionate about winning his first ever Giro stage and to wear pink on the first day, maybe until the last?!!!
Narvaez ‘stole’ Pogi’s dream, so Pogi stole his at the first opportunity.
He just did it to deny Narvaez that win
Knucklehead!!!!!
👊🦋
Knucklehead count: 2
We love them. 😂❤️🦋👊
I still dont believe what my eyes saw😅
Agreed. I thought it’s over 😳😲😮💪🦋
I don't feel pity often for bike riders but I do feel pity for Julian alaphilippe with the current team just destroying his career if you ask me. I'm pretty sure he HAS to attack this way, team orders from Lefevere "I pay you to attack so attack!". If there is one person in modern cycling deserving a knucklehead award it's Lefevere.
Hate that guy. Criticizing his riders in the media.

That finish was crazy curvy. Fabio must be a big, powerful guy to always get dropped on every bump on the road.

no way! If so he would have gone later - that was cleary only to bring Navaez back and give his sprinter a chance… maybe a bit of an education for the guy who was on his wheel all the time in stage one only to outsprint him in the end
Lol no.
As I remember last Tour de France 2023 Vingegard was olso a leadout man on one stage, and also on Criterium de Dafne, so Pogi doing this is normal
