I love Baguio city but comparing Baguio now .. I could say that I like it better during the 60s - late 80s because it was way cooler and healthier. Not so congested . Dude thats what you call Change. Manila is alo full of trees, what happened to Manila now. and some parts of the philippines. more trees than house during 60's and 70's. what happenes to those cities now? period.
Only unforgettable wonderful memories I have of Baguio!!!! My 1st was in 1994 for my officership field trip with BPI, 2nd was 1992 with 3 families and stayed at BPI’s Baguio branch close to burham park (best time ever!!!!) and 3rd time when I came back to visit from LA with my own family and sister, mom and dad. This time we rented a house owned by the Tesoro’s and each morning at 6am, we hear the nuns’ singing and praying. It was all so beautiful 🥰🥰🥰
There's no need to retire early. All you have to do is take a break from your 9 to 5 job every now and then and go for a vacation to these beautiful places with your family and friends.
I need to go to baguio inspite of the trapik, and population. Memories and the weather wont just hold you back! If i have the means to live there, i will
I visited Baguio 30 + yrs ago. From all the u tube video and what friends are saying. This place had terribly gone down with so much congestion and over population. I dont need to go back but i will keep the old Baguio clean and with provincial feel in my memories.
I was just in Baguio in February and visited many of these beautiful sites . This was my second time visiting Baguio , the last visit was about 10 years ago. Thanks for this wonderful footage. I live in Atlanta, Georgia and love Philippines.
hello Vlogger Grandpa. i'm here again..enjoying your trip to Baguio City...I have never been there. hopefully one day, I could also visit that beautiful place...nice tour guide
Thank God ako dahil nkabili ako ng lupa sa BAGUIO so i build an house for transient para near in the future puede na ako mag retire ready my future...Maganda kasi sa Baguio even crowded the people in Baguio are kind and helpful..
Of course, baguio! What do you expect? Baguio is mountainous place, and i am proud to say i am now a resident of baguio city! Kung ikaw din taga saan ka? Natural love mo place mo! Kung lait laitin ko kaya lugar nyo? Gusto nyo ba? For your info: ang nagpapasikip at nagdudumi ng Baguio are mga turistang walang desiplina! Di perfect ang baguio city, pero much better kesa ibang place.

Was in Baguio last November 2023. Short (3days) but memorable stay at the Baguio Country Club courtesy of my niece and husband. We were also chaufered around old but not recognizable familiar places. As a child we spent many summers at Teachers' Camp, Camp John Hay, Burnham Park, etc.
Thank you for visiting Baguio V-grandpa! I think a good pair of sneakers would have been helpful for the trekking up and down the steps. It’s awesome that you were able to walk all those places. Yes, definitely Camp John Hay ambience would have been a different experience specially taxis are inexpensive and the drivers are honest.

I am from BaguioCity, it’s different from 60-70 years ago… hardly any peddlers down and up Session road, as kids we used to run up hill to see movie at Session theatre without bumping into people. Go to Camp John Hay for a treat of American cheese burger and fries or hot dog. At the gate, American and Philippine guards check incoming vehicles and passengers going inside the base ( it used to be American Recreational base for American service personnel and dependents (families) Filipino military and locals are also welcome as long as they have passes or sponsorships. Always looking forward to go to the PX for some groceries and treats (chocolates) when my dad comes home from overseas… So different now… very congested, hard to get parking space, tourists explosion ( good for economy and trade) not bad…
I love baguio before with so many pine trees. I smelled the pine needles so far away. I still love the city that we renovated my mother’s house on top of the hill. It is really a nice area when the fog rolls in the afternoon. i just drive around the city with Hyundai van. I will be 70 yrs old and I don’t feel old. I’m swimming whenever I can at my beach house in Zambales. Yes, 21:41 I love the beach, too. So now. We are currently staying at our house in Decatur, Alabama. i miss the mountains and the. beach and sunsets.
Wow ! I watch until the end, from the Bus station to Cubao, visiting different spots/scenic view (mostly i never been those places) and your statement at the end of the vid. thanks for touring us. Beautiful vlog grandpa. I hope the local govt must preserve the trees, dont built houses anymore, one child policy in Baguio is a MUST!
haha anong 1 child policy ang sinasabi mo. fyi, 70 percent population ng baguio ay hindi permanent resident; meaning, most are college students coming from different parts of the country studying in baguio and some are tourists. gaga
Plenty of steps too when I visited many waterfalls and ocean cliffs in the Philippines. I suggest step machine at the gym before going. In America the truck is king and the couch is queen haha.
I totally agree. I brought my wife there in 2020 despite negative feedbacks from her niece, when she has never had a chance to go visit Baguio her entire life up to the point I brought her to the US. Her niece told her that it is no longer that nice in Baguio, and I told her that if she would've given her any hint that we will take them with us at no cost to them, their opinion would've changed. I come home to visit the homeland to relax and give my wife a chance to see places that she never had a chance to see and for me to visit places I went to while deployed to the Western Pacific and the Indian Ocean while I was on active duty in the navy, and not to pamper relatives. We all worked too hard during our working years, and now, trying to enjoy what we deserve.
I love my country where I was born and raised. On my last vacation way back in 2016, BAGUIO is different from 30 yrs. ago, crowded, too much traffic, peddlers everywhere and the weather is getting warmer. Have a lot of memories of the old BAGUIO 70's and 80's esp. at Camp John Hay. Nowadays, I don't even want to visit again.
Same feeling here. Last time I visited Baguio was 1997 and didn't even bother to go to Camp John Hay as I don't want to ruin whatever memories I have of Camp John Hay in the 80's.
@valenzrey6812 wow we went the same year in 1997 in March. It was our HS Field Trip. In the afternoon it was hot at PMA and I wanted to remove my jacket so bad. But We need to tiis ganda for the sake of our photo
Salamat naman. Sana mas madami pa magsasabi na "We don't intend to go back to Baguio". Crowded na kaya we don't need anymore permanent residents. Pasyal lang kayo.
Just subscribed. My wife and I feel for you ( and your legs😄). At 69, we thought we could tackle a pilgrimage tour of Italy last year. Instead I ended up buying a folding cane to support myself. We said we will refrain from taking pilgrimages as a lot of walking uphill and downhill in Italy just like in Baguio. We prefer the relaxed way of travel. Keep doing what you’re doing.👍🏼
I agree with your conclusion about Baguio. Because of its cool weather, we went house hunting last March. Unfortunately unlike SAN-FO, the terrain are very steep in Baguio. Due to my disability, i almost fell several times walking along SESSION ROAD and crossing towards SM MALL.
Good Morning po! Born and raised in Baguio City. Retired na rin but I am here in the USA, Georgia to mention. Baguio City is no longer my choice to live kasi super crowded and noisy na. Visit visit na lang po. All my siblings are here na sa USA. Our parents are gone, Kaya stay put na lang kami dito. But thank you very much for showing this vlog po. Take care and God Bless 😊😊😊GA usa
I’m glad you’re able to see Baguio sir 👍 A lot of the tourist spots have been commercialized and you’re right…it’s hard for the senior knees! Sabi nila, yan daw ang reason a lot of us ay malalaki ang binti 😀
been to Baguio December 2017 our 1st family vacation from Seattle USA it’s CROWDED, lots of commercial shopping center lots of trees cut to make way for buildings and infrastructure for business December is warm!!! in Baguio 😢 .
Thank goodness I’ve traveled and worked since my 40’ and 50’s. I think you’ve waited a bit too long. On my early 60’s now and still able to hike and enjoying my vacations. That’s the thing, whether I’m in a cruise, Europe or Asia I make sure I include a workout, walking, and hiking just to get my momentum going here. Great vids btw. Thank you
Luckily, I traveled the world while I was younger. But I never visited the Philippines once until after 25 years that I left the country. Now, I want to return and learn more about the country that I left behind.
Tama po kayo Sir nagbabalak na din po ako umuwi sa atın for good.I live in Tacoma for many years and I think in 2-3 years I have been praying about it .
Last year nagpunta ako sa Baguio for the first time, naintriga ako sa sinasabi ng karamihan na its the coldest place in the Phils., so nagbaon ako ng mga kasuotan pangontra sa lamig.
I went to Baguio in 1997 with my then girlfriend (now my wife of 24 years). She wanted to go horse riding. I wasn't keen because I'd never ridden a horse before. However, I enjoyed it so much we did it again the following day. That was enough though. We were so sore (in some very delicate places) we could barely walk or sit down comfortably.
The lesson here is travel early and as much as you can don’t wait to age and only then you plan to climb stairs like this it’s not advisable 🤦🏽♀️🤦🏽♀️🤦🏽♀️we are still in our 50’s and we are not waiting to reach this age to travel and yet we still work my dear, enjoy both world traveling and working😊
i left the Phils at the age of 27. an ofw in africa. traveled europe in early 80s on the way to canada and US. wifey and i traveled a lot and still doing it. retired recently and settled in the US. do it while young and no way in regretting it.
Never buy street foods unsanitized, unhealthy, I'm an expat and I got diarhea many times I do not patronize at street food venders nor do I buy anything at wet markets your asking for a death sentence.
Balikbayans and seniors are better off staying at the Manor or Forest Lodge inside Camp John Hay. And if you happen to be connected, then Baguio Country Club is No.1 in Baguio City. Those 3 places have the old Baguio feeling. Pine trees all around, nice scent, clean and quiet. You can golf or even just walk around with hardly anyone around except you and your group. Then restaurants that are better than most are found along Outlook Drive which is close by. Ans so it the church.
@@vloggergrandpa2707. The truth is for balikbayans it is not expensive. For seniors it is even more inexpensive because of senior rates. Their in house restaurants serve good food, country club had great japanese restaurant. Room rates are about usd 150 per night and up. Half the price of BGC Shangrila.
If you are retired and prepared financially at retirement and skimped most of your working life. Why not treat yourself the best that money can buy. It’s no longer the saver’s mentality but spending is your goal.
i was already dead set in retiring in the philippines 3 yrs from now .but with extremely hot weather ,i may just retire in mexico .was planning in retiring in either cebu, subic or dumaguete ,but not anymore !
@@garrydye2394 depends on where you go.mexico city is cold .just returned from there this month .been there possibly 50x ,feels like europe . will retire next to the border of texas ,so its not hot like the phils!
😂😂😂 hello po. We went there in 2019 my boyfriend & I both suffer from shortness of breath of breath climbing in the mountain hell we went to pines view and went for a long walked in John hay . mountain we both fall as slept with exhaustion 😂😂😂 our knees then were started aging . we both realised we won’t be coming back .
@@newtonlee10no, you won't. It's just around 1000 to 1500 meters above sea level. Not enough for altitude sickness if you're just within the city limits & tourist spots. If you intend to hike mountains there, then yes you might experience altitude sickness. I suggest to do some walking/ jogging/ biking prior to visiting Baguio. As you've seen, it's hilly. Vlogger Grandpa & wife had some difficulties climbing steps.
A few nice spots but not much else. Even the tourist spots are of sub-standard condition. Crowded, congested and uncontrolled housing covering pretty much the surrounding mountains. I don't even know how they get their water and get rid of their sewage.
Other than the tour guide I hired, I just used taxi to go to Mirador Heritage and the Night Market. Baguio is just like Manila and I wouldn't recommend driving there.
One thing about the Philippines, all signs are in English which means I will not have a hard time reading them. Sorry, I also grew up all my life in the US over 5 decades since single digit age (read very little and no write in tagalog). 😂
Mid 70s F during the day, low to mid-60s F at night. It's usually cooler than Manila by 15-20 degrees F. We have a summer house there in a gated subdivision, closer to the outskirts. It is safer and not as crowded compared to the center of the city.
Wow! The tour guide did not see you, how old are you both, climbing is not the best for retired people, just saying, there are lots of tourist spots in Baguio not the climbing, that was insane tour guide' of course you could say you're not going back 😉
There's a tourist information desk in front of the hotel. Talk to them. I find it cheaper than booking it with the hotel front desk because the hotel obviously collects a commisdion.
@@vloggergrandpa2707 You got scammed bro. should never hire a tour guide in the Philippines, corruption is extremely rampant I'll stay in the USA have no intention of visiting a 3rd world poverty country.
Agree its a very poor country, 99.9% of all products are from China which China dumps their sub quality products there, because of rampant corrutpion this country will alway remain a 3rd world poverty country.
The Philippines is a mundane life, nothing good about this 3rd world country, very boring, poor qualities of almost anything, I been here and I'm going back to the USA where life is wonderful, I worked very hard in life and now I have a $8300 dollar per month pension, no bills.
Good for you ,if you can’t say anything good about the Philippines maybe just keep it to yourself, life here in the USA is wonderful?i guess it is if you are not watching the news ,enjoy you $8300 Sir😢
Gone are the days when Baguio was beautiful. The 80s up to the early 90s was probably the last hurrah of this great mountain resort.

Never buy street foods unsanitized, unhealthy, I'm an expat and I got diarhea many times I do not patronize at street food venders nor do I buy anything at wet markets your asking for a death sentence.
Thanks for the info
the movie "Apocalypse Now" featured Ilfugao people as it was filmed entirely in the Philippines...
Philippines does not have water purification or water treatment facilities, all raw sewage is dumped into the streams and ocean.
That’s what you do Vlogger grandpa promo our country dahil your from here.
Is it expensive to stay there?
Manor is super expensive and offer very little for what you paid for.
Why not try Forest Lodge and Le Monet at CJH. Very nice place to stay.
If you are retired and prepared financially at retirement and skimped most of your working life.
Why not treat yourself the best that money can buy. It’s no longer the saver’s mentality but spending is your goal.
I've never been to Baguio, but I don't think I'm impressed. But who knows, rice terraces are nice to see in person and the weather.
Wyndham I like it
i was already dead set in retiring in the philippines 3 yrs from now .but with extremely hot weather ,i may just retire in mexico .was planning in retiring in either cebu, subic or dumaguete ,but not anymore !
Mexico is hot.
@@garrydye2394 depends on where you go.mexico city is cold .just returned from there this month .been there possibly 50x ,feels like europe . will retire next to the border of texas ,so its not hot like the phils!
Mexico city has perfect weather for me. It warms up in the day and cools down at night. It's because of its high elevation. I lived there for 5 years.
The problem with Baguio is that once you've gone once there is no reason to visit again. Once it's enough
I agree!
😂😂😂 hello po. We went there in 2019 my boyfriend & I both suffer from shortness of breath of breath climbing in the mountain hell we went to pines view and went for a long walked in John hay . mountain we both fall as slept with exhaustion 😂😂😂 our knees then were started aging . we both realised we won’t be coming back .
will people easily get the so-called high attitude sickness in Baguio?
@@newtonlee10no, you won't. It's just around 1000 to 1500 meters above sea level. Not enough for altitude sickness if you're just within the city limits & tourist spots. If you intend to hike mountains there, then yes you might experience altitude sickness. I suggest to do some walking/ jogging/ biking prior to visiting Baguio. As you've seen, it's hilly. Vlogger Grandpa & wife had some difficulties climbing steps.
@@kitty_s23456
thanks, Kitty :)
@@newtonlee10 you're welcome. Safe travels.
Baguio is not for old age legs, There are no flat surfaces in the city, so you are either climbing or decending.
Strawberry farms is flat
A few nice spots but not much else. Even the tourist spots are of sub-standard condition. Crowded, congested and uncontrolled housing covering pretty much the surrounding mountains. I don't even know how they get their water and get rid of their sewage.
People burn their trash, packs of dogs running rampant, Karaoke is so loud you cannot sleep.
I am from Baguio and Trinidad. Thank you for visiting our place but I am confused with the "I don't intend to go back to Baguio."
I mean I have seen it once and that is enough. There are more places to see in PI.
But I thoroughly enjoyed Baguio.
Seemed like they had to do a lot of climbing stairs, and had some joint pain. Maybe that is a factor, for this couple.
Our place is cold so it's not good for rAyuma.. And traffic problems I guess
Hope you guys enjoyed your trip! Did you get a chance to practice any “Ilocano” while there? Wished we could have seen you get a tattoo from Whang-Od.
Natatawa ako sa inyo ako nga na 64 yrs only hindi ko kayang magaakyat
Baking naman. Maigi nga ay nakakagapang pa.
Baguio is. If you ain’t going up, you’re going down. Once was enough!
How would you rate Baguio now in a scale of 1-10? I heard it’s not as cold as it used to be
I bet if it becomes a bicycle place like Amsterdam, yes it can get cooler somehow
@vloggergrandpa, did you rent a car in Baguio? I didn't get a chance to see some of the places you went to.
Other than the tour guide I hired, I just used taxi to go to Mirador Heritage and the Night Market. Baguio is just like Manila and I wouldn't recommend driving there.
@@vloggergrandpa2707 We hired a taxi too. Lol We also miss the Chinese place.
I’m in calamba city I was wondering what is the cost of a non stop bus ride to Baguio from calamba city. I don’t know if you would know this or not
The costt is about PNP1,500 each way for 2 people. That is 1st class and has senior discount.
@@vloggergrandpa2707 thank you I thought about driving but the luxury first class bus ride looks great
One thing about the Philippines, all signs are in English which means I will not have a hard time reading them. Sorry, I also grew up all my life in the US over 5 decades since single digit age (read very little and no write in tagalog). 😂
Nice video but - what are the prices ?
What's the weather like in Baguio during the summer season? Must be cooler than in Manila...
Probably!
the lowest temperature in manila is our highest.
Mid 70s F during the day, low to mid-60s F at night. It's usually cooler than Manila by 15-20 degrees F.
We have a summer house there in a gated subdivision, closer to the outskirts. It is safer and not as crowded compared to the center of the city.
Omg I will not climb those high roads if im in My 70s heck no Baka ma Short of breath kayu Wala kayung da Lang oxygen
I can’t believe that driving to Baguio only takes 4 1/2 hours only.
Me neither. To my surprise, it is. I think it's due to new roads.
Via expressways it is about 4 1/2 to 5 hrs to get there
Wow! The tour guide did not see you, how old are you both, climbing is not the best for retired people, just saying, there are lots of tourist spots in Baguio not the climbing, that was insane tour guide' of course you could say you're not going back 😉
Hahaha! But we knew it ourselves so we just have to be extra careful.
Grandpa, how did you hire a tour guide. Thank you.
There's a tourist information desk in front of the hotel. Talk to them. I find it cheaper than booking it with the hotel front desk because the hotel obviously collects a commisdion.
That place is ruined! You call that scenic view? All I saw on the video was denuded mountains🤪🤪🤪
I need a cane to walk so definitely not for me.
how & where did you get the tour guide?,
Across the hotel. The hotel offers them too, but almost twice the price.
@@vloggergrandpa2707 Filipino scam like always.
What’s the name of the hotel..?. Did you use Travel agency..
No, we did not. We just looked for the hotel online and did not even know that it is adjacent to Victory Liner.
By the way, the hotel is Microtel by Windham.
Travel agency name is " we scam everyone".
Sir Ano po pangalan ng Hotel nyo.. Thank you po .
Microtel by Wyndham Hotel
Nothing in Baguio. Only traffic and ugly roads without any signs of directions.
haha bitter! kain ka na lng po mangga para naman tumamis ang buhay mo, hindi lang puro ampalaya
Grandpa how much does a tour guide cost?
PHP3,500 total for me and my wife.
@@vloggergrandpa2707 You got scammed bro. should never hire a tour guide in the Philippines, corruption is extremely rampant I'll stay in the USA have no intention of visiting a 3rd world poverty country.
What kind of stinky stuff did you smell in the bridge.I need to know to remind me not to get on that stinky bridge.
😆😆😆
Grandpa magkano po yung balut?
PHP 25, or $.50
😂
Philippines is nice to visit, but not to stay there.
Agree its a very poor country, 99.9% of all products are from China which China dumps their sub quality products there, because of rampant corrutpion this country will alway remain a 3rd world poverty country.
How many hours po…?
4-1/2 hours
@@vloggergrandpa2707 non stop po?. Did you book on line?. Thank you po.
@marianeil6630 Yes, that is non-stop and we had to make sure there is CR. We could have booked online but I don't have a local credit card.
@@vloggergrandpa2707 Victory Liner po ba?.
@marianeil6630 Yes, it is Victory Liner.
Baguio is a dump... daming naghambalang na mga sirang sasakyan... mausok na... matrapik at wala silang waste system...
LOL I can say Manila is more of a dump than Baguio... Bet the locals dont mind if you never visit baguio ever again
@@mel2063what im saying is nakakapanghinayang lng..but of course it is true with the entire country...
The Philippines is a mundane life, nothing good about this 3rd world country, very boring, poor qualities of almost anything, I been here and I'm going back to the USA where life is wonderful, I worked very hard in life and now I have a $8300 dollar per month pension, no bills.
😮 😞
No bills?? No property tax? No rent? No over-priced restaurants?
What are you, homeless?
😂😂😂@@whitesamurai
Good for you! $8,300 a month is good. At the same time if we need extra cash, we can always find a pt job that's one good thing here in the US.
Good for you ,if you can’t say anything good about the Philippines maybe just keep it to yourself, life here in the USA is wonderful?i guess it is if you are not watching the news ,enjoy you $8300 Sir😢
