  • SPOILERS AND LINKS BELOW
    Colvin “Butch” Hinton III kidnapped, raped and murdered Shannon Melendi in March 1994, but authorities didn't know that when they personally spoke to Butch and he provided an alibi. Ten years after Shannon went missing, Butch was finally charged with her murder. But why did it take so long? This week, Savannah digs into the facts of the case, the horrible last moments of Shannon's life, and why it so long for police to bring justice to the Melendi family.

      Thats beside the point, its still an interruption and highly insensitive while discussing the murder/abduction/etc. of an individual. And it's gross that Savannah liked the comment as a way of feeling justified for being inconsiderate rather than fixing the issue.

    Sad to say that Butch Hinton had dinner at my house several times. He was introduced to me by a friend who was convinced of his innocence. He was calm on the outside, but I could see he was wound very tightly on the inside. When he was arrested, tried and found guilty, I didn’t speak to my friend for years. I was beyond livid that she brought this monster into my friend group. My daughter was 15 at the time and (I found out later) she was exactly his type. Nightmares plagued me for years. Great job on the video.

    Honestly not trying to be a hater, I watch your videos every week... but read the room. I know you’ve addressed the ads before but have made no changes and they’re abruptly placed in the middle of a video. Not only is it disrespectful, but also confusing for viewers, boring, and an inconvenience to people who are listening while going to sleep (which we all know tons of people do). Yeah, get that money, but man I have watched hundreds of true crime videos and I have neverrrrrr come across people approach ads like this and ignore the obvious dissatisfaction from viewers and continuing on like people aren’t commenting the same thing every time... I like your videos and want to keep supporting you but it is just getting ridiculous girl... saying this as a caring friend would. You give a good amount of details and it’s very obvious you put a lot of work into your videos. You also have the perfect soothing voice for a podcast! It’s awesome listening to you and gaining new information at the same time!
    Being new here I don’t know if it’s my place to give you some suggestions, but I just read some of the comments and I see there are quite a few people who have issues with the ads being in the middle of the videos. I have to admit it does take away from the case a little bit & it actually confused me for a minute or so. I really thought my phone was messing up or I clicked on the wrong video lol. Anyways, my reason for bringing this up is due to the fact I know the ads are how you make your money (which is awesome to me!) but even CZcams gives us the option of “skipping” ads after 5 seconds. Would it be possible for you to maybe put time stamps when the ads begin and end so the ones who are upset have the option to skip them? That way you can still have your sponsors, & your fans get to make the choice to listen or not 😊 I truly feel it would make most of your fans happy as well as adding new subscribers 💕

    The fact that you have to keep fighting every seven years to keep someone in prison is insane. Shannon is dead forever, so he should at least be in prison forever and not even be given a chance for parole. some people have no remorse

    6:14 There was nothing that could have suggested foul play EXCEPT for the fact that the roommate is telling them that seeing the car left like that is _completely_ out of Shannon’s character and despite the fact that she left the softball field for home but never made it there. So… what? She went to the convenient store to get a soda and suddenly decided to literally walk away from her life? Signs of a struggle and blood are certainly the two clearest indicators that foul play has occurred but there are many other subtle signs & clues that allude to it as well. That they let the roommate take the car despite her strong misgivings about the situation is incompetent at best, overtly lazy at worst. I’m not sure how long it takes investigators to process a car but one would think it’d be better to obtain potential evidence because once that’s lost, it’s gone and there usually isn’t a way to recover it. A lack of evidence obviously seriously impedes the progress in an investigation so I would think that it’d be better to have the evidence collected and then not need it than it would be to overlook the evidence, then find out a crime *was* committed and you’ve squandered any clues that might have been. I of course understand that police can’t investigate every teeny-tiny matter just on a roommates sayso but there was obviously something amiss in this particular situation.

      I agree and they should also take what a parent says about their missing loved one to heart. Anyone who looked at Shannon's life would see that she was not a person who would just walk away randomly after a game, leaving her prized possession and taking nothing with her. I can't fathom how let down and frustrated families must be in this situation while precious hours are going by and evidence is being destoyed.

    I really hope they are still looking into Butch being responsible for other young womens disappearance. Any woman that went missing around that area could be his victim. They should have never released him after the kidnap and rape. If it wasnt for his wife catching him in the act that girl would also be dead. They should releasing pictures of the clothing find buried in his yard in case anyone recognizes the clothes.

      Hello, this is Shannon's sister, Monique. We believe Shannon's body is with the rest of his victims. If he gives up her remains, he gets nailed for his other crimes. He claims he dismembered her and burned her in 2 fire pits. The police had cadaver dogs search his property and fire pits. They found remnants of the plastic ties he used to bound her hands and other materials, but no bone fragment. How do you find plastic and not bone?

    Why do people moan so much about the ads? They are better than CZcams ads as you can just skip forwards through them all. She puts them all together so it makes it extra easy to skip through.

    • @elizabethgregory
      @elizabethgregory Před 3 lety +3

      Well in my opinion I do support her, and her ads...but I'm thinking maybe they notice them so easily bc they're literally over 6 minutes long, in a 31 minute video. So the other 25 minutes or so is super fast, which she does talk fast too....but other podcast that do this, have longer videos. Idk just my opinion though. Girl gotta make coin. Hope she can find a happy medium 😭

    10:18 I hate to judge a book by its cover and I actively avoid doing so, even going so far as to call myself out on it when I find myself doing it. But… this guy… just looking at his picture gave me an unsettling feeling which is totally separate from whether I think he’s guilty of Shannon’s abduction or not. If a picture is worth a thousand words then surely a few of those words worthy of this picture would be _creepy, distressing, eerie_ and _chilling._

      It's called the criminal justice system for a reason. Seems like the criminals have all the rights and the victims have none. We have to fight to keep this a-hole behind bars every 7 years or so. It's exhausting. This is Shannon's sister, Monique. :)
