Benefits of Using Flavored Toothpicks with Essential Oils:
    freshens breath
curbs appetite (I find that cinnamon bark works the best, although grapefruit is also a popular option)
improves mood (citrus oils help a lot)
    energizing (especially with peppermint)
supports a healthy mouth (tea tree, Thieves & cinnamon are great)
homemade versions are stronger than store-bought, so they last longer
Important Note on Which Essential Oils to Use
Make sure to choose an essential oil that has been certified as GRAS (Generally Regarded as Safe) or as food additives, by the F.D.A.
avoid using any oil that says "for aromatherapy use only" on the bottle. These oils are NOT truly pure and/or safe to use in this way. Always, always, always read your labels first!

About OFF GRID with DOUG and STACY:
We moved to our 11 acres in 2011 from a large city in the Midwest with zero carpentry and farming skills. We live with no solar / wind power / public water or well. We share our adventure to a sustainable life, growing our own food from vegetables to meat. We post videos DAILY and they range from HOW TO to EVERYDAY LIFE and NUTRITION on the off grid homestead. We were city folks just like you probably and wanted to enjoy life and have more control over our food. We share food recipes as well as natural remedies.

Another good video! thanks! In my girlhood neighborhood, we used to make cinnamon toothpicks for fun. We bought the cinnamon oil at a local drug store that also sold candy. Funny thing was, we all craved the cinnamon more than any candy! I recently learned at the Townsends channel comments that LICORICE ROOT was used for chew stick toothbrushes back during the late 1700's. I've ben told it's a beneficial thing to do for oral hygiene. Naturally healthy for some reason.

Bright idea to make this an even simpler to do item. Use different toothpick holders and put the essential oil drops in the bottom of the toothpick holders and then put the toothpicks in and give them 24 - 48 hours to soak up the oil and they are ready to go. Is there a reason you would have to soak them in a bowl first?

Rachel Ewing I tried that and oil turned to almost a candy do not know if the plastic did it or I didn't put enough or some sites recommend adding olive oil to the essential oil but I think my mistake was the plastic and too little oil

  • @betsyoman7173
    @betsyoman7173 Před 7 lety

I suggest sticking the toothpicks in the nearly empty essential oil bottle. Or you could stick a few drops of oil in the toothpick holder. Essential oils do evaporate over time, so if you put the oil in an open dish, some of your oil isn't going into the toothpicks, but evaporating instead. Which might be OK if you want to have the oil in the room.

Not toothpick ... but closely related. I have found the ideal toothpaste! ..... Bicarbonate of Soda! It is the same stuff you can use in baking, just moisten your toothbrush slightly and dip it in and brush. Bicarb is cheap and can also be used as an antiseptic and mixed into a paste with water is an excellent cleaner too! My dentist has commented on how well my teeth are doing since I swapped from regular (sugar and fluoride filled) commercial paste!

Oh Dougie, you just put them all together and made mint, cinnamon, vanilla toothpicks. Never liked that cinnamint flavored toothpaste and such. Yuck. It did remind me of the penny candy store selling cinnamon toothpicks. Could you see a kid these days buying toothpicks like they were candy? Different world we live in today.

I thought you were going to make the toothpicks. I stopped using toothpicks because they are made in china.

Actually the ones you linked are made in china. Yes there are some for sale but they are much higher priced and they are new old stock and are being sold as collector items. There are no wood toothpicks made in the USA!
