Nice vid. Its nice to see experienced enduro guys picking up theses WRR's, KLX, and CRFL's and showcasing what they are capable of from experienced enduro riders, instead of complete Noobs bashing the bike instead of their skill level. Im seeing more and more enduo guys get these bikes cuz of the freedom u have instead of being limited to trails.
Thanks. Just love the bike. You’re right though, can do anything you want to do, just need to plan a bit further out and requires a more experienced hand. Anyone thinking is holding them back is kidding themselves.
@AusMoto what’s up with all the WR Iove in Aus. You guys seem to get it down there but convincing people out better how good the bike is seems almost impossible. Probably 80% of the WR content on CZcams seems to come from down there.
Really cool video! I have a wr and just converted it to supermoto, but after seeing this it makes me want to put my dirt wheels back on and get in the woods!
I just bought a 2020 bone stock wr250r and it is nice to hear that you have not made all the common engine mods on this bike in the video and it is still very capable.. But I do believe the 13/48 sprocket change is in my near future, I guess that will mean a longer new chain as well.
13/48 makes it much better everywhere. It doesn’t mind the revs on the highway and it’s way better in the bush. Considering getting a programmer and opening the airbox so it can breathe better but honestly, everything has gotten so expensive. Great bike as is too.
this was the best wr vid I could find..... coming from enduro I didn't know if the wr 250 was capable enough for what I wanted but looks like shell take you anywhere you can hang on
Thanks. I’m looking forward to getting a programmer for the bike to just get that little more off the bottom. Not sure I’ll pipe it or not. Honestly don’t really feel it needs it.
Excuse my interruption Gentlemen. I wanted to point out that ALL of us are Riders from around the Calgary area. Who wants to come Meet-Up on Sat, Feb 3rd at the Calgary Motorcycle Show.? I am going invite more of us 2smoker Jay & Mr. D
Fantastic video. that 250 really bites and climbs. I know how you feel being a short guy on a tall bike... I have convinced myself that it makes us better riders.
For sure, though I would admit that we also go down more initially and have less room for bad technique. I’ve always put my kids on tall bikes to help them learn to stay up and don’t dab.
@@localresident7826 the guy I do most of my adv travel with is on a DR650. In think in hindsight he wishes he had bought a wr or crf300. Very little the 650 can do that the wr can’t except maybe cruise at more than 60mph and even then it has the power but isn’t as smooth. DR a nice bike for casual travel and off roading but as your experience rises the wr has a way higher ceiling for where it could at and at what speed. There’s no overcoming 70lbs lighter and better suspension by a mile.
Cool video! I've put over a 100000 miles on a DR z.. I bought the original in 2000 when it first came out. Always laugh when I see one for sale with 5K miles I'm like Ah that thing's barely even broke in 😂 I'm looking to Upgrade my current XR 600 R to something within electric start. Keep up the great work meaning never stop riding the woods!
Very cool video. My first bike is DRZ400S. i think when i move out of the city, i'd want to get a WR250R, and also a DRZ400E. It's a shame both those bikes are no longer being made.
Mr. D, I found your 2nd Channel with just 1 video, I am your #2 Subscriber there. Did I ever tell you that I once owned a 2016 WR 250R that had just under 1,000 kms. If I had $5000, I would buy another one, as I see a 2018 for that amount right now.
Always 5k well spent :). My second channel is just scrub material so I can share stuff more easily that’s not as edited or narrated. Sometimes funny or embarrassing clips will show up there though.
That quit making on of the best Dule Sport bike for its price. I have a 2017 with many mods I have 17000 miles on it still going strong. I would love to buy another one with low miles
I got a hyperpro emulsion shock on mine. Kind of wish I got the one with the hose instead, but it is better than stock. Still bottoms out kind of easy. If the fairings keep breaking off, the 4.7 IMS tank replaces them, but it does make it harder to sit at the front of the bike. So far I replaced the stator and chain tensioner on mine with over 11,000 miles. Seems to have some blow by, but still enough power.
Great review on the WR. I agree on all points but must say out of all the upgrades, the Magura made the biggest difference, and it wasn't just the easy pull. It is simply the way it applies the clutch, very similar to my Husqvarna 350. I wouldn't go back to the choppy feeling of the cable, although it's obvious that the cable is much more reliable. Worth the pennies to me, but obviously whatever floats the boat. Side note, a Vortex made my 350 a beast vs the stock low end spit and stall. Made a world of difference riding Utah rocks.
Seems like a lot of people agree with you on the magura. I value the reliability more than anything because we do a lot of riding waaaaaay out into the bush so i can’t have it fail.
That makes total sense. You offered a great review on this underestimated bike. I am constantly asking myself why I bought one, but every time I ride it, I’m reminded of why. 👌🏽
My first bike was a wr250r, I’ve always been a big fan of it and still am. Compared to a dirt bike they’re heavy and slow, but man are they fun to ride and pretty much bulletproof. I regret selling mine 😒
I really like the Moto Z Mountain hybrid on the rear terrible in the mud, but I stay away from the mud mostly ride the hard pack stuff here in East Tennessee.
Tennessee knockout is on my list of just sees. On our race bikes I run the Shinko 525 gummy rear and Mitas C16 on the front. Road tires I’d like to try some of the motoz stuff. Seems real nice.
@@danielleppington I have the 525 gummy on my 125 definitely a better tire. I just like the Moto Z Mountain high bread for its longevity probably ride 70% Road It’s not the gummy, definitely not the greatest tire for traction although it does work real good in the hard pack rocks here in the mountains.
Correct me if I am mistaken, but I don't think you mentioned; #1) It's Fuel Injected #2) Has an Aluminum Frame #3) Very Low Maintenance (especially compared to a Enduro) #3) Has been Discontinued.! :-(
All good points, except unhappy it’s been discontinued. Very much like the bike and looking forward to lots of seat time next year. We’ll be buying a second one for my kids in the spring so we can parts share on trips.
If you have $5000 now, why dont you grab the one on kijiji here in Calgary. There was 2 for sale about a week ago but one sold. If you cannot find the Ad let me know the seller agreed to come down to $5000. It was either 2016, 17 or 18 with under 9,999 kms. The Ad is easy to find. I think the unsold one is Sticker-Bombed.
@@AngelFaceMotoRider I have to exercise patience :). The second bike will be bought by my son for a trip we are taking into the arctic. Important lessons on saving money before spending for him. If you’re going to be into bikes, you really should be into budgets. Lol

I probably am overkill with Amsoil metric change it every thousand miles. Especially now since it’s $15 a quart but I don’t like to see dirty oil.
I like to run the amsoil metric too. I tried the dirt stuff but it wore out faster for clutch feel. Intervals I play by ear depending on dirt vs road but probably average about 3000km between. I would really like to sample the oil and see if I really need to that often. Maybe post results next year. -40f here atm so not a lot of riding.
I’m curious if I could setup a 300l to be as good. With me being 230 suspension always needs work so I’d be interested in trying. Not super optimistic but open to the idea

You are a gnarly rider! I'm shopping and considering a WR250r, CRF300l, and DRZ400S. This is plus +1 point for the WR!
Honestly, all good choices for different reasons but also honestly, WR reigns supreme. :)
