I just love how you show that finances do not keep you from being able to do Montessori with your children. Keeping it simple and mostly homemade helps moms keep up with the stages of baby and toddlerhood. Simply making birthdays and Christmas the time to add special activities keeps it affordable.

Don't get rid of the junk drawer!!! It's so magical! I loved collecting things when I was little. I still hold on to some of them. Like a bottle of perfume my mom bought me when I was six in eurodisney! She knows how to see the beauty in things! It's so precious! De-clutter, but don't get rid of the drawer! :)
Also had to note I love how you're not bothered when she loses interest in things, or uses them 'wrong'. My son is 1.7, and some of the games he has he just likes to do he's thing, and you keep reminding me how normal and beautiful that is. Thanks ♥️

Hi..I'm a new mom of a 2 week old and i just love ur videos. I wonder how you make time for all this organisation and diy activities with 2 kids to look after. Can you please do a video about how you manage your time and your daily routine with 2 kids? It would be an inspiration for moms like me who are kinda overwhelmed with motherhood!!

Seriously, I wish this meant more than it does, because I know you are so hot and popular now with Montessori. But you have been the BIGGEST inspiration to me and my family. I went to a Montessori preschool, and it stuck with me through me entire livelihood, including college. I aimed to me a early Ed teacher, and realized all I wanted to be was my girls mom.
Thank you for the holistic approach you have to social media, being a mom that dislikes screens, i some how have so much appreciation for all you do. It is so honest and pure, you are a great mom and I know I don’t have to tell you that. Keep going, you keep us mamas that are true, strong.

Junk drawer- love it!!! I have a junk box which I hate as well but my son loves it, I just put all the random stuff there and once in a while go through it and throw away the stuff he doesn’t play with it anymore. It really is junk! It even has empty bottles that he just likes opening and closing and using as percussion instrument... lol
Thank you for sharing, now I have to watch some older videos again for some diy activities 😊

As a primary school math teacher I must say this: A lot of what you put in the Hand-Eye boxes is actually Math (or can be used for math). Math, especially pre-math is much more than numbers and counting. It is shapes, patterns, geometry, classifications, positional relationships, ...
eg. If the stacking pegs, geoboard or lite-brite are used with templates/pattern cards thats math because the child has to translate a 2 dimentional "map" into a 3 dimentional "landscape". Or using the lacing beads to lace patterns like red-green-red-green. Making recuring patterns like that is also a great math activity that can be done with loads of different materials such as pompoms, buttons, building blocks, ... Also the geoboard can be used for many other math activities about geometric shapes, like "Can you make different triangles?".

I love, love, LOVE seeing some of the DIY toys you've created: the bottles filled with different craft materials, the teething ring and especially the tops of the baby wipe packets repurposed into a peek-a-boo panel!
As Montessori has become more well known, a lot of Insta accounts and YT channels have cropped up and it often seems like you have to spend a fortune on buying toys that conform to this method of teaching. It's so refreshing to see someone make their own and in a more sustainable way!

I want to raise my kids Montessori and I was just thinking back on my childhood. I realized the toys I enjoyed the most weren’t the ones that had buttons and made noise. The toys I was obsessed with were baby dolls, play dough, cars, our tree house, blocks, stuffed animals, and puzzles. It was because my brother and I would create little world and build towers and use our minds. Kids naturally go for those type of toys. They like to create their own ideas and use practical things. I also used to take our kitchen utensils and play in the backyard by digging dirt and things to make “soup” 😂

By the time she was 5 it was always disorganised and a longstanding fight thruout years to get her to clean up, help And let toys go. My little girl now takes care of her toys actively helps tidy them up. And proudly cleans up her mess without help, thanks to this method. I've learned from my past mistakes thankfully lol

We have the same Melissa and Doug animal sound puzzle that Alex doesn't enjoy as much as when he was a baby :). I just bought the nesting dolls for Christmas and I can't wait for him to open it. I saved it on my shopping list from one of your older videos :D. The peek a boo sensory board is such a great idea, I love the idea of reusing the wet wipes' tops and gluing them to the cardboard ❤️! This is so interesting seeing some of these activities!! We've used lots of these in some schools i attended as a child. So early 90's. It seems everything is so more techy now and I dont see any of these toys/activities, which is sad. I loved school as a child and had so much fun playing and doing activities as a kid but now as an adult I cannot focus on something so simple. I'm trying so hard to bring some of these into our home. I am so glad I found your channel, love your videos!

The dollar store has awesome 48, 100, 200, and 300 piece puzzles. I cut the picture out and put them in Ziploc bags. This allows us to keep all of them organized and have a great variety very inexpensively. Puzzle mats are awesome and allow them to put them away from little siblings when they are not working on them. Quiet time is a great time for puzzles for the preschool- early reader. We have a quiettime and you can sleep, read, or do quiet alone activities-legos, puzzles, beading, or other handicrafts.

Do you still have the junk drawer in Kylie’s room? I have some ideas for you, if so! 1.) turn it into a “restaurant / car busy bag” drawer, and fill up an old toiletry bag or 3 ring binder pencil case with a few of the items + crayons/stickers and a small notebook, etc. I only have an 11 month old, but we are already starting to accumulate some “junk”, so that’s what I plan to do. 2. You could also use them in activities like sorting by letter and sorting by syllable. On a table you just make 2 columns: one for letter “g” for example, and one with letter “s”. Then you put all the “junk” that matches one of those letters in a basket for her to sort. So you could have like “glasses” or “shark” in the basket. Same with syllables - you just make 2 columns and put one or two-syllable objects in a basket for her to sort. 3. Object-to-picture matching placemat. You lay out a bunch of items on an 8.5 x 11 sheet of paper. Take a photo, and make sure to print to scale, so the items match the size of the real-life objects. Does that make sense? Anyway, long comment, but I thought that might help.

Hey Ashley! I've watched a lot of your videos, including your positive discipline video. But I was wondering how did/do you teach Mia not to do certain things? Like how do you say no? For example, my little one tries to stand up in his baby bath tub, I tell him I cannot let him do that for his safety, and that if he does it again, then I will lay him down, then I follow through if he tries to stand up again. But what do I say about him kicking his crib? I have been letting him do it because in Maria Montessori's book "The Montessori Method" she talks about how kids will learn that certain noises are not beautiful and will stop. Thank you for your hard work!!

If you've never done Montessori before but you want to start, when would you say is best to start & where do you start?

Fairly certain she has either answered this before or has a video on it. I'll tell you the name if I can find it😊

Is Montessori only for children younger then 5? I have a 5 and 7 yo and would love to use this Montessori method but all the shelf ideas that i have ever seen are to little for my older two.

You touched on it a little bit but the toddler I nanny for has a PERFECT mental catalogue of the toys she has even if they've been away for months. This means she will ask for various specific toys/activities at least a few times a week. Do you have a recommendation on how to handle this? Should I keep facilitating taking out the things she is asking for? She knows that we have to put toys away to make space for the ones she wants but sometimes she will ask for something. I'll get it out, we'll put something else away, and then 10 minutes later she brings it back to me and says "put away." I'm all ears to suggestions

This is probably explained elsewhere, but I’m curious about what the reasoning is behind limiting the toys you put out at a time.

You mentioned flash cards are not the Montessori way. Are there any parent materials on how to teach the Montessori way?

What was the response from your parents when you decided to use this method? I notice that you say you are gifted items that aren’t necessarily Montessori and that you personally wouldn’t get. So how do you manage that with the teaching style of your (and most of our) parents? Is it hard for them to transition? Do they limit interaction so as to not do anything “wrong”? I’d like to know as I think for me, this would be the hardest thing to get my parents to stick with something they just aren’t educated about.

Maybe send them link to these videos? Chances are they would relate to the method and it'd remind them of best activities from their childhood, even if they didn't know the name Montessori :) I wouldn't also call it method/lifestyle/etc (wise toys and cool parenting ideas?) and not emphasise their "uneducation". They'd probably say it's all nothing new anyway but would focus on it more now?

Maybe Kylie would be interested in dolls if you would have one doll out and have a little bed or stroller for it? I've seen lots of children who love to drive around with a stroller or put a baby doll to bed when they're going to bed themselves. But maybe you've tried these things and she truly isn't interested ;) Also I would introduce it quite early to Mia to see when it catches on (from the age of 1)... I've seen parents who wait too long and the child never really gets interested. But hey maybe Kylie will be interested later on.

Kylie has a stroller for her baby doll and she use it to move around anything but the doll, according to Ashley... 😉

Did she say where she got those black storage bins? I have all my kid's toys in our guest closet but I see she puts it in their room. Don't they just wanna play with it all the time and ask about it if they know all those toys are there?

I love love love your channel, content and inspiration I gain from you for parenting. But - why so much editing cut-aways? I don’t know the technical term but while you talk to the camera it seems like constant edits between sentences. I don’t notice this a lot with some of the other channels I follow. I don’t know why I notice it so much. 😂

Hi Ashley, i had a thought all of Kylies little treasures she can’t part with can be called ‘special’ to distinguish from the rest of the toys.
And I personally believe that’s wardolf encourages imaginary play is popular for girls where as non fiction stories work better for boys, this due to the creative element girls naturally rely on as they mature..
