5.9 not 6.0
I would like to say the second gen was a 5.9 liter diesel not a six liter like he says in the video
Great video but a couple of things to address.1. It was actually a 5.9 not a 6 liter 2. The high output was only in the 6 speeds in 01-02, the older manuals put down more power because it allows for more access to the power band than the 47re. 3. The vp44 was not the problem the killer was the lift pump starving the vp causing it to overheat
The high outputs in the 12v’s came in the manuals the pumps were bigger in the manuals than the auto
I can’t believe they said the 6 liter tho what the hell😂😂
Actually the 6 speed arrived in 2000.
The 6 liter killed me lmao
Love my 1997 Dodge 2500 5.9l 12V 4X4 LB. Great truck! Still running strong after all these years.
Most people don’t know that 53 blocks that cracked were in a lot of machines like cranes and so forth I have a 53 block never had problems never been rebuilt setting at 230k and no blow by. Only leak is power steering fluid😂😂 dang steering boxes!
Thats literally the only problem i had with mine
Let’s not get started on rams goofy and weak power steering… or steering.. I said it i know… - Rainey
@@CustomOffsetsTV im 15 and looking for my first truck should wich gen from 1-3 should i get??
@@coopie_7.3 id go with a second gen or first gen, but that’s just me, go with whatever you like best
Get a new pump and a redhead steering box and you'll be very happy. Mines at 280k and drives like a dream. Err... A 20 yr old truck. Lol
2nd gen Cummins have always been one of my dream trucks to build
Wake up ol son
Got the 53 block original motor with over 400k miles, running strong with no blow by. She's got a few spots under where it sits but nothing to even worry about. Love my 2nd gen.
What year
New viewer to the channel, great to see some love for the 2nd gens. I am a proud 2+ decade owner of a 99 Extended bed club cab (2 door extended cab) 24V with 53 block and VP44. KDP killed back in 01/02. Started 2022 with a new 47RE overhaul and WOW, with a new triple disk converter, its better than new! First performance transmission went 130,000 miles at 350-400hp with ridiculous torque (DD2 injectors and Edge Comp/Quadzilla). Served as a daily driver and towed cross-country on multiple occasions.
New owners who only dabble in shade-tree mechanic wizardry should find the right folks to work on these rigs. I would like to give some credit to Scott Hovey of Massdiesel in MA, and Fred Swanson of FSR Diesel in Phoenix for being gurus of these trucks/transmissions. This truck has lived through a decade of desert heat in Arizona, and another decade of Northeastern winters in MA. Now if I could find a solid paint shop... not much OEM paint left after Phoenix heat scorched it, and New England Winter salt / moisture went to work on it.
I'm in middle school but There are like 3 dudes that go to the high school with 2nd gen Cummins and they roll shit tons of coal everywhere
Compounded 24v quadcab 2nd gen owner here. I love my truck. I live in the north east . I went down south to find one with out rust. I absolutely love it.
Great, yours will be rusted shortly.
My 2001 2500 "3BC 123" block is 650000 original miles and still rocking like a champ!!
53 blocks were produced in many places including Argentina, Mexico, Brazil and others. Not ALL blocks were terrible. The majority of the bad 53s were from Brazil if I’m not mistaken.
Found an amazing '01 unmolested 6 speed with only 168k last weekend, CLEAN CLEAN CLEAN. Rear quarters already replaced, and rest of body is NUTS clean. Only ever used to haul horses. Bought it on the spot. Merry Christmas son.🎄❤️
I have the 1998 Dodge Ram 1500 with the 5.9 Magnum and it runs good. I did some modifications and aftermarket parts on it
Hell yeah.
I had the 2001 6 speed manual 24v ran like a champ wiring was a nightmare
Brooo my dad had a 24 valve 01 sport throughout my life until i was around 14 then that truck was totaled sadly, loved hearing the idle
Time to build a replica!
@@CustomOffsetsTV yessir, my dream truck, brings back too many memories
I never understood why they never made a crew cab for the second gen from the factory, imagine how sick that would be
The aftermarket companies made a few, they look decent!
@@CustomOffsetsTV I think I know why they didn't, because chevy and ford would not have sold any trucks those years
Can convert a 2nd gen to a crew cab if you want
Wouldn't look as good
@@CT-Dana ya it would, it would look a million times better if it had 4 doors
Awesome I’m a firefighter and love my 2nd gen 99 Dodge Cummins…
Second gens are my favorite truck
I have 96 dodge 1500, 318. Love that truck but having a Cummins would be great.
I bought my 12v, 5.9, w/5sp 13mos ago in So Cal. No rust 200k, mi. OEM and runs like a top. No regrets.... yet! 🤞
That’s bad ass man!
I had a 98 red sport ext cab ,5spd,4x4 daully 12 valve that i sold years ago because it needed a lot of work . cab mounts and back of cab were shot as well as bed and being in ontario canada it’s very hard finding rust free cab and beds and companies who go down to the southern states want 4k for a bed .I miss that truck every day and wish i kept it
“Tell me you don’t know anything about trucks without actually telling m-….”
Cust Offsets- ”SIX LITER CUMMINS”
Absolutely adore my 12v manual 🙏
The manual is the real selling point!
I’m very jealous now
I really want one! I’ll def be looking at buying one writhing the next year to haul my big 30 foot pull behind camper. If I can find one of course lol
Hey guys,I bought a 1996 12v 5 speed...250 thousand on her now, 2nd owner, an old railroad man bought new, got sick and put her in the garage. He put her in Marshall Texas, fell in ❤️. I drove her since 04 grocery shopping and grandchildren taxi.
She has a few problems with cranking, and crazy gauges, getting older, and I would love for someone who would love "Great White" as much as I do
1998 12v QC, SB, 5 speed, SRT 10 seats, amp research running boards. Like it better than my Raptor. Not as fast, but will haul anything!
And it has to sound better too
its funny that you uploaded this the day i got my second gen
Ayyyyy congrats!!
This video reminded me of why I shouldn't get rid of my 96 even if it needs a head gasket.
Great video I’m buying one tomorrow
"So you want a ford raptor" would be awesome
Or maybe a hummer or humvee episode
By the way Love the channel
Keep up the good work
I want a hmmwv but not sure what I’d do with it!
Got the taste in trucks of an 8 year old
@@hunterbrock2347 I will take the complement
I have 2 cummins Dodges .. 1 is a 1998 sport 12 valve short bed and 1 is a 1997 SLT Laramie 12 valve long box .. The sport is blue truck looks the mate to the one you had on this video .. the 1997 I built over the last year using Texas parts (I'm in Canada) it was painted a month ago a beautiful green .. Both trucks are base/clear and both are for sale ...
are they still for sale?
Just brought home April 2024 a 99 24 valve W/ 104K miles mint perfect condition. I bought it to flip it but have decided it's not going anywhere. I have three First Jens that I am married to and will always be my favorite but this 99 is something. I would upload a picture, but I don't know how to…😂 sorry I'm new to Facebook, and this kind of technology
I ordered an 03 brand new and ran it 200,000 miles completely trouble free but I like the body style of first GEN and now of course second GEN much better
2nd Gen Love
Have a 2002 dually with 300k km. She's my best friend thats loud and pulls anything.
Literally was thinking if this video yesterday
An here it is, tada! 🤘
On my 3rd 2nd gen lol now I have 2002 3500 single cab manual 4x4 flat bed I’m working on
Flat beds 🤤
Do a how good can our employees drive.
If i speak for everyone, bad. Myself I do well - Rainey
I’m just getting started into Diesel truck and truck actually. I want to mod out a single cab short bed truck. So I was like fuck it go diesel. A lot of people have told me the 2nd Gen is the best and easy and cheap to work on. Right now I’m stuck between a Silverado 1500 and Dodge Ram short bed/ single cabs aswell. I honestly don’t know where to go 😅
my dad used to have a 12 valve and as a little kid i thought it was the loudest truck ever
Cause it was
Was gunna say they’re definitely loud as hell haha
@@CustomOffsetsTV My dad had one also, he passed away in March of 2020 and I’ve been trying to track his down. Haven’t found a single thing
I gotta turn mine off at every drive thru and people gotta talk really loud when I roll my window down but my friends know when I pull up to their house
I daily a 24valve 6 speed manual with a couple non factory things under the hood. I will say teachers at school hated me for how loud it is. actually driving nice. It does leak a bit but there is no getting around it. She has her good days and bad days but a 20 year old Montana farm truck will do that.
I'll be lookin out for the 53 block I am saving to buy a 2000 or a 1999 dodge ram 2500 24v cummins
Love the ol 12 valves
Why not 24V (;
@@kirrasbankz12 valved is all mechanical. Can’t beat mechanical.
Just got a built one it’s worth it
got a 2nd gen unicorn block cummins 2wd , couldnt even sale it for 8k with no cracked dash and absolutely zero rust and stock besides lift pump.
I don't want a 2nd gen right now, I've got a 1989 bronco 2. I would love a 12v 1st gen, but funds and space are limited
Feel that man, one day!
Nice I have an 88 Bronco 2, love my lil shitbox hahaha
I’m getting mines next week😂😂😂
building my second gen 1500 currently, wanna do a cummins 2nd gen after lol
Im doin 2ng cummins an might pick up a 1500 2g soon to do up 😆

@@CustomOffsetsTV yea my 2nd gen is a street truck daily build but that 2nd gen Cummins going to be a 4x4 of road 22x14 setup. Can’t beat the 2nd gen body style 🤙🏻
Running 20x10 on 32x12.5 on my street setup.
@@imtheplayerandthecoach2409 honestly the v8 1500’s are all great trucks and are stupidly reliable just like the diesels
im on a 20x14 with 35x15.50 furys and 2 inch spacers with a 5 inch lift and i dont rub at all
Prove it! By adding it to our gallery! Customoffsets.com/add 😁
@@CustomOffsetsTV will do, ill take some pictures after work 👍🏻
I want a first gen dually with a manual and 12V
That sounds like a stout setup. Get ittt!
I love my 2nd gen dually.
Our 98 24v manual dually has went through 1 trans and fuel pump with 400k and it’s almost always been hauling cows down gravel roads it’s whole life. Dash ain’t even cracked
Damn that 7.3 is sick!
Grandma’s homemade chili clip was @Quang Tran on CZcams. Dude is a beast in the kitchen.
I’m down for homemade chili
You forgot about the kdp on the 12v and most 24v’s
Do an 11-16 powerstroke
I’ve had most versions of the manual cummins from 1995-2015. My personal favorite engine to this day is still the 2000 24v. It is absolutely as reliable as a 12v if the transfer pump has been updated. High output was not available until 2000-01 with 6speed. VP44 failed because electric transfer pump on the block failed starving VP44. Had not thing to do with low sulfur fuel.
Did you ever own an early 3rd gen truck (03-04)?
@@adamyoder8771 I currently own a 03 6 speed 2500.
@@joshuaelkins4889 what makes you prefer your 2000 to your 2003?
@@adamyoder8771 I honestly can’t answer that, They’re both great trucks. I just have more preference to the 2000 24v engine. I haul hay with both and they both perform great! I could be that I’ve put 300k miles on the 2000 and my 03 only has 70k on it. Great question, sorry I can’t answer it.
@@joshuaelkins4889 👍gotcha
I added my old 2nd gen truck lowered on 20x10
I have a 95 12 valve auto and I was told all the automatics came with a 165hp pump
I see a 4 door 2nd gen there 2 of them in my home town
I have one wish it would start though it only turns over
2nd gen extended cab, diesel, dually ♥️
Got one with the 6 speed only problem I have with this truck is the dash 😂😂😂😂
I would scoop a clean stock one from down south and not do what I did and got a rust bucket that someone’s messed with a lot put 15k underneath and now got an electrical issue and haven’t gotten to the body yet
Finding a clean stock one is the best idea to avoid headaches!
@@CustomOffsetsTV right lol found that out the hard way
I started doubt the whole vids legitimately bc he said 6 liter around 3:40
Scoop baby. Compared to Everything else and prices, cost effective long turn, or just for fun
Yes one day
Wow kids remember not everything on the internet is true! Also I wish someone would find me one of those 235hp p7100 truck pumps.
You can't fool me the blue truck at 6:00 is a gasser
Thought that blue 2nd gen that keeps being shown was a1500.
It is
And a gasser
It is!
Where you from in wis. I am from Wisconsin. I have a clean 2nd gen. Love it, never had a problem with it LOVE IT!
Appleton!
Im near Milwaukee
Madison is where it’s at in Wisconsin
Looking for a first gen 4Runner video lol
I love my 2nd gen Cummins
Just got an 04 6speed cummins
Let’s go!
I have a 96 2500 2 WD. If I knew then what I know now, I would have pulled the motor out, and junked the rest of the truck. I have dumped so much money repairing everything surrounding the motor at least twice. Door hinges are junk, interior is all falling apart, and I am going on my 4th transmission on a stock motor. I take great care of all my vehicles as they are my money makers. Run full synthetic oil on everything and religiously change out it out to include fuel filters every 5K. I love the motor, I hate the truck!!! Will probably be looking for a Ford with a blown 6.0 4x4 ext cab to do a swap.
Yep- you can buy a 1000 foot pound truck... for more than I paid for any of my first 3 houses. Soooo?
My 2500 5.9 magnum is a powerful strong reliable truck. Cheaper too lol
Can’t beat that
326k on my old ram
I own a 2000 6 sp.460.000. Never failed me.
Are you guys with fitment Industries LOL just curious or an off branch of them or are you guys your own separate company
Same same, but different.
We're apart of the same team! They just do the car side of things!
Guess I snagged a beast. I got a 02 dodge 24valve with 74k miles in Michigan. It’s near show room condition and I only paid 22k🥵
Wow. I have a 99. How did you find yours with so low miles. Is it the original engine or rebuilt?
@@ranjanty I wish I could tell ya. I got lucky I guess. It’s the original engine. It’s a one owner
Is a used 2001 cummins at 250k miles still good to buy at a dealership? First time truck buyer & diesel truck
Are we talking super expensive repairs? Or do able ? Electrician but dont know squat on diesel🤦🏾♂️😂
Info is pretty good, but a little off.
94-95 auto - 160 pump
94-95 5 speed manual- 175 pump
96-98 auto - 180 pump
96-98 5 speed manual - 215 pump
01-02 24v autos yes, had the hy35/hy9 turbo, but the 5 and 6 speed manual trucks still had an hx35 turbo from the factory.
Also 01-02 HOs were 6 speed with about 500rwhp limited on the stock vp44. HO trucks also had a little higher compression.
Most 98.5 and 99 trucks had 53 blocks. But some 98 12 valves had them. I've heard 53 blocks being in 00 and 01 trucks too. Not sure about 97?
99 and 00 6 speeds had the SO vp44 and a smaller input shaft.
Bang bang bang
👀👀
do 6.4 powerstroke trucks next
Will see what we can do!
The reason they 86ed the 12v. Because of emissions standards changed and mechanical pump could not provide the control of an electronic pump. So goes old reliable for a more complex design. Thank you Gov.
Just about at 400k with my 95, not quite
Y’all didn’t talk abt the steering? I’ve never been in any 2nd Gen that wasn’t all over the road
Most older trucks tend to be unless someone redoes the entire front end
I have a 2001 24v Laramie with the black leather interior and everything but a sliding rear window. It has the auto but it’s been stock it’s whole life and never pulled anything more than what you can tow on the rear hitch. Has no gooseneck or 5th wheel in the bed. Pretty clean has two small spots on the the bedside and 214k miles. How much would y’all say she’s worth?
Ooof thats a tough one… I’d judge price accordingly to what others around you are pricing theirs
My dad had the same truck leather seats laramie slt, then it got totalled sadly
@@CustomOffsetsTV I’ve seen 2nd gens in rough shape with stuff done for 7500-10,500, I few with 180k miles in clean shape for 20k. Ext cabs for 10-17k and a restored 1995 12v single cab with mods listed for 25k
@@coletonk1401 I’d sell mine. It’s clean KY title
524,xxx on my stock block 97 fully built auto and I've dumped countless $$$ to keep her going not stock and everyday I find a way to push the envelope more. Honestly this truck owes me nothing. Pulls harder than hell and has only left me stranded twice in 5yrs 1 from a blown fuel line. My fault. Second alternator connection fell out of er. Still pulls strong does what it needs. But hell I hate the shit steering. I've literally replaced every suspension component and I got no where. Still the same thing. Drive my dad's 3rd gen feels like I'm driving a car. Much quieter too 😏😉
Haha, sounds like a riot!
Hi Justin, I got a 02 lb. I put the evergreen steering sector stabilizer order her, put on bilsteen shocks with 1 inch lift, now my 2nd gen steers like a car! Oh yah, and replace the stabilizer bar rubber bushings with the polygraphite ones.
