I have always said it is frightening how much imagination we humans have of ways to physically AND mentally punish our own kind. Not only that, it is one thing to come up with horrific ways to punish people in real life, but imagine being the messed up person writing the scripts for horror movies and crime dramas, who also have to have the imagination to think up horrific way to kill people. I saw the trailer to the recent horror flick called "Thanksgiving" where all of the murders were pretty much given away in those 3 minutes, incl one where a woman gets burned alive in a human sized oven, and I am left thinking "What absolute NUTCASE sat one day and thought 'Hmm, I wanna make a movie where people get cooked alive??'"

What we need is to find a balance between punishment and rehabilitation, though in America there is a lot of other problems that need to be addressed outside prisons that can help lower the chance of going to/repeat prison stays. It's a really complicated issue and doesn't have a one size fits all solution but realizing there is a problem with how some prisons are run is the first step to improving the system.
The US has area's that do not even enforce their laws. Stealing isnt a crime, even murderers are released on a few hundred dollar bail. The real problem is unequal enforcement, and then the punishment not being a deterrent.

As a person who went to prisons before for 125327 convicted felonies I can confirm these prisons are the worst

The Iron Maiden was never used as a prisson or as a torture device. It was just a decorative furniture that became popular to have.
Just as i sed. No human was used in it.

This was absolutely fascinating, horrific but fascinating. And then I clocked Be Amazeds location at 9:58 and burst out laughing 😮😂😂 Roman punishments were extremely brutal and the medieval torture to imprison, control and subdue prisoners were horrific. I ended up studying the latter then also realising it would make a great miniature diorama which is a plan in the works I feel guilty about! Great video as always, thank you 😊

That pink makes you calm down, it reduces stress.
Educating and supporting prisoners who are going to be released is the best way to prevent recidivism. If they can get a job on release, even if it's a basic one which they can do whilst looking for a better one, and be sure they have somewhere to live - even if it's a parole hostel - they won't _need_ to return to crime to support themselves. Once they've completed their sentence, they shouldn't be further punished. It doesn't do the community any good either.

I think there are the top 3 prisons I wouldn't wanna be locked away in. 1: Death row. I mean come on (づ￣³￣) . 2: The barbed wire box thing. I'd start crying in 1 minute. 3: the Iron Maiden. instant death.

For future info, friends at BA, gibbet is pronounced ji-bit/ji-bet (depending on one's accent. Ji-bət is closer to how it's actually said). Hearing it said gib-bet is really weird! 😂😂😂

Is Hanoi Hilton on this list? If it isn't, it sould be, Hanoi Hilton was a POW camp used by North Vietnam during the Vietnam war. This prison held many American POWs throughout the war. The guards torture methods and the harsh conditions of the prison made it in my list for the top ten worst prisons in history
I was going to write a comment about how awful your information was regarding the Iron Maiden when you first brought it up was inaccurate, you instead followed up with a description of exactly what I was thinking of mentioning. Props for you for giving actual information on this channel.

When I was a stupid young man I got addicted to drugs and in with the wrong crowd in the late 90s I spent just under 3 years in a Victorian prison with no toilet in 5he cell no running water just a bucket a a bunk bed 2 men 5o a cell 22 hours lock up a day that was still easy in comparison to the jails on this list...

I agree that our prisons need to change, but Norway's maximum sentence, even for a serial k*ller, is only 10 years, maybe 15. They're also allowed to leave prison during the day and go to work with and even go on dates with no supervision. That's not prison. There has to be some form of punishment as well as rehabilitation, but Norway treats them like they're at summer camp. Surely there has to be a middle ground. That being said, if I was homeless I would go to Norway and break every law so I could get a nice home and job and have the tax payers pay for it all lol.
Never let it be said that being human doesn't come without the choice of engaging in cruelty. To appreciate compassion is to endure cruelty, unfortunately.
It's one of those elements of humanity that makes you wonder if we will ever truly be rid of our interest in harsh punishments

I work with a former prison, and he choose better life. From a gangster, who robbed people and did alot of crime to a hard working person i just love to work with. He got out of prison where he stayed 4 year for his crimes. Today he have a work, his own apartment, and he is doing good. He loves Rolex watches and he have made money from this, by selling and buy legally. In Norway we want prisoners to do their time and become better people. Taking their freedom is punishment enough. We also have desent sentences, meaning u are not going to jail for nothing like USA. I watched a serie on tv where a driver where sentence for 8 years of prison because it was a "carchase" where driver didnt stop fast enough. In Norway it would result in maybe a warning and small ticked.
These prisons made the ones we have today doesn't seem so bad in comparison.
I must say that I am once again, pleasantly imprisoned in my Amazement.
