  • Join a culinary tour to Gothenburg and it’s surroundings and discover the most beautiful beaches and best kept local secrets of Swedens west coast.
When traveling there is only one rule I always follow: Go where the locals go. This time it lead me to crystal clear water, the rugged beauty of granite shores, magical sunsets and a vibrant city with a strong working-class, unpretentious vibe.
We started our culinary journey while waiting for our motorcycle tires to be changed in Gothenburg Downtown:
Saluhallen is the biggest indoor market in town. The Market Hall was built at the boatyard at Götaverkan between the years 1888-1889 and designed by architect Hans Hedlund, who has drawn many of Gothenburgs most famous buildings of that time. At Saluhallen you find delicacies from all over the world - and seafood right from the ocean at Gothenbourg. We decided for shrimps and sweet water crayfish - that made for a delicious lunch at our relatives house close to Gothenburg.
The real charm of Gothenburg is not only it’s vibrant city - but it’s location on the Kattegat - the arm of the North Sea separating Denmark from Sweden. After having received several suggestions from our family and friends living in Gothenburg, we set out on a hike to one of the most beautiful beaches - a real local hidden gem. Find out more about Gothenburg, the best sweidish food available and the best beaches of the Gothenburg archipelago in this video.
    Our Highlights:
    - Shop shrimps & crayfish at Saluhallen, Gothenburgs biggest indoor market
    - Have a the hot dog "Halv Special" at Lasse på Heden
    - Discover the remote beaches of Vallda Sandö nature reserve
    - Make a picnic with "Kalix Löjrom" - one of Sweden's most special delicacies
    - Visit the car free island Tistlarna
    - Spot rare harbor porpoise

American from the mid-west here. Mashed potatoes on a sausage (we call those 'hot dogs') That doesn't sound too bad. I'll have to give it a try.

    • @annabackman3028

Hot dog with mashed potatoes "korv me' mos" (mos is pronuonced like "moose"! Means something mashed, with hot dog, obviously potatoes) used to be the Swedish fast food no. 1 before hamburgers were introduced.
You can have the hot dog either grilled or boiled, but that's where the Swedish difference between a grilled hot dog and the boiled sausage appears. Different sorts of sausages 😄! The grilled one is a classic hot dog kind, but ironically we call the boiled one "varmkorv", warm/hot sausage, although it's thinner and longer, and tastes differently. Juicier, if you can say that about a sausage!
A VERY Swedish hot dog fast food is "tunnbrödrulle"! (Tunn = thin, bröd = bread, rulle = roll)
That is, originally a 'varmkorv', nowadays any kind of sausage, e. g. bratwurst or chorizo, and mashed potatoes wrapped in a tortilla looking white rye bread.
Of course mustard and ketchup, pickled chopped gurkins, with or without mayo ("majonäsgurka" or "Bostongurka").
      That's a ful meal, I guarantee you!
Traditionally served with a 'Pucko', cold chocolate milk. 😋
That's a walk down memory lane for me, going back to mid seventies, moped (sort of scooter/motor bike extra light😂) and 'Flosse's "korv-moje" in Tureberg, Sollentuna, Stockholm. A "korv-moje" is like a little kiosk for selling fast food. Back in time, before burgers it was all about hot dogs = korv, what "moje" is, I don't have a clue 😂😂

Hi Lea. Thanks for the wonderful tour of Gothenburg. You managed to pack so much into a 14 min.video, better than a pro travelogue. Those crayfish looked delicious, like mini lobsters. Stay safe and see you next Thurs. Another covid19 "stay at home " order happening here in Toronto, 4 weeks beginning today. Hope you are well. Cheers. 🏍😃🇨🇦
