- When Stranded Deep first came out in 2015, everyone was playing it or played it at some point in it's history. Today I'm taking a look at Stranded Deep with fresh eyes to answer the question: was Stranded Deep as good as you remember? Has it stood the test of time?

Oh man, I remember making one of the islands back then and watching you play on it. Great times, Great video series but sadly not so great game.
This game was so much fun! I hope they add mod support soon... I usually abandon a save after I run out of islands to harvest trees/sticks/rocks from. I know I can just use Cartographer to make new islands, but that would delete all the little waystations I like to build on every island I pass through.
I freaking LOVE this game. Honestly, I've never even heard of it until a couple of months ago after watching Cast Away I wanted to find a tropical island survival game and Stranded Deep is exactly what I was looking for

Do you play vanilla SD? I think this game would be only half as interesting without the community content, I would like a better looking and feeling game but not as much as broadbent says here 😋
I just got done playing it through to the end after about a year of not plYing it. I love the underwater graphics. Building. And no map and trying to get around with out getting lost. I think it is one of the most challenging games out there.

I'll be honest, I bought this game after watching you and a few other CZcams series on it.
I played about 3/4 of the main game by myself, struggled a lot, then got bored. Lots of the same repetitive things over and over.
I think playing multiplayer would be much more enjoyable. It would be cool to have a world and server population like Valheim where multiple people can be playing at any given time.
Yeah it does get boring. You should try the custom islands if you decide to give it another go

Ive been play testing project castaway alpha. It's very similar in a lot of ways. The studio wants to release early access soon. It does need a ton of work, but they have an opportunity to do what stranded deep didn't. With over 600 hours in stranded deep, plus content creation and playtesting SD mods. I hope to be able help the devs achieve that goal. I got to your channel from SD. I watched you burn out on it. I kinda wish you'd grab some of these amazing MODs and throw one more SD video out there!

Must say I agree with what you say. I love this game and have had a lot of fun. But it certainly could and should have been brought a lot further. But on note of the genre of the game, I’m really looking forward to trying out Project Castaway when it comes out. It seems like it could potentially be what Stranded deep could have been.

Still one of my all time favorites games, I'm playing Tchia at the moment and keep thinking of Stranded Deep. Lots of little similarities that make me want to jump back into the game.

Wow. Just found your channel. Am on season 3 of your Stranded Deep plays. Alarming that your tone has changed so severely from loving the game to hating it. Now looking forward to the big plot twist as I watch.

I bought this game back in 2015 when it released and tbh it was more fun before the whole graphic engine update. The original Stranded Deep is pure nostalgia

Probably should have done a comparison from when it first came out until now. Who remembers the buckets of water? Collecting rain water in them? Boiling the sea water? Plastic bottles? Never-ending islands and exploration? The graphics made a big jump from 2015. Go back and watch the stuff from GenerikB to see what it was like.
I’m interested to see how this goes for you, branching out a little on the type of content you make. Showing a more honest or creative side of yourself could be good
Now this is a nice call back! Damn i remember yuo playing this. And me buying it because of you and playing the Heck out of it. This was so much fun. But when you have no real Goal you just turn it down sooner or later. Today i would rather play Stacklands. Anyway, in the smale Chance you see this i would love to know how your RL Home is coming along? Is it a Castle now or still a fixer uper? ;)

One thing I noticed in this game at least for me is turning aa off actually helped image quality especially from far away. There is one game similar to stranded deep called escape the pacific.
I tried getting back into Stranded Deep again a few years ago, after a very long break. Day 2, my raft flipped over and it wouldn't let me get out, and I drown. I uninstalled it again after that lol. I haven't seen any of the new stuff past the first year or two of early access, so if they make it less janky and update the visuals, I will probably try it out again someday.
What graphics settings are you on?
The best thing about the piles that you can put two drinkable coconuts and a pile drink one and then add it back to the pile and it makes both of them drinkable again
Devs of this game are Aussie! Let's go! It's a shame they never really earned enough to bring more developers on board, the scope this game could have had is impressive, unfortunately it fell just a bit short. The core gameplay is really fun though. I hope Beam Team make a new game from everything they've learned from making Stranded Deep.
they made acouple million off the game, based on the lowest number of sales. they couldve, they just didnt want to. the devs for this game were pretty lazy. i feel bad for their ticket support handler, they put alot on them.
You should check out the mods we’ve been working on for stranded deep. We made the world twice as large with double island size. Added the ability to build fires and water stills and other structures to your raft. Added an environmental effect system, made it so you can get drunk on fuel, added fillavle water barrels to the game, all kinds of stuff! We even made mods to make the bosses and creatures harder with extra features. Oh and a load object distance mod. It’s basically a whole new game with everything downloaded. We are stranded wide mod group. You REALLY should check it out, cheers.

There is a similar game to SD.. its called Escape the Pacific.. but its in very early state. You can check it on steam.
I don't know about saying it's not worth it but I do strongly agree that custom maps really makes the game more fun--as long as you use quality designs and not some of the cheese out there that really cheapens the game. The custom map packs are really good, appreciate those being available.
I completed this game on PS4 and remember watching your series. It's a great game for what it is. Hope they do a second one with a larger area and more building options.

i love the idea of raft/island survival, but ive had terrible luck with the genre. Windbound and Breakwaters felt soulless. couldn't get into them.

There is a similar tropical island survival game that has promise, including base building on rafts. Something I always felt was missing in SD. Tho it is still in very early access.

@@oab I was playing it last year and it was enjoyable I had fun with it, I’m just waiting for an update they are working on to explain some of the more complicated mechanics better, the dev team is pretty quick at replying and doing their best to fix bugs asap

"Was Stranded Deep As Good As You Remember?" Relatable title, im glad you made this. I thought the game was amazing and I tried getting the game but it just kept crashing as I tried to open it and I always thought it was a really good game. Seeing the game on its latest and final verison makes me a bit happy that i didnt purchase it.

Stranded Deep is a game I always dip back into. The lack of current updates for old gen is diminishing. Shame, really.
Ive always had a soft spot for this game. It has SO MUCH potential but the dev team just gave up. It wasnt intended to be a big game. Honestly they have things in this game you just cant find elsewhere if they would fix whats needed and add some stuff it would be amazing.
I've never played it, but it's a $20 game. I wouldn't expect more than what I see offered

A problem I've run into stranded deep online is some people will spawn in and mess with your inventory throw it in the ocean hide it Etc so I found a way around that finally that's my world they come to find a nice Island put all the stuff you don't want people ganking camouflaging you always have your stuff it's a Barren Wasteland for them to rape and you outsmarted they'll never know what island granddaddy gamer it's worked for me hear that cheesy game players that take stuff

Its a shame because stranded deep is a good game but for it to be more enjoyable is to have these bugs fixed and the game polished a bit more and then I'd say it would be more worth buying it
On a completely different note, have you touched green hell at all? They've recently added animal husbandry. Doesn't really work for part of the story mode, definitely helps in normal survival, however.

It's not unique any more there's a game in development called project castaway and from what I've seen it's a much more polished game I'm hoping to be able to get to test it soon 😊 should check it out when it comes out always loved watching your SD videos so be great to see
From what I've seen of that game it looks to be further behind than SD. However, it's at the beginning of it's life, so we'll see how it turns out

I bought it on Ps4 when it came out. Game was awful. A lot of bugs, glitches, fps drops, unplayable controls, very few resource drops, invisible snakes etc...
I should give it another go very soon
PC + custom islands is the only way to play imo

two years of updates somehow made the game worse. The controls are so obnoxious now compared to previously and there wasn't ever meaningful updates
I love the general idea for stranded deep, but it was poorly executed. I'm aware the team was/is two people but it came out in early access in 2015. That's a lot of time for almost nothing.

@@oab ya I dont know exactly how buggy it is now but a few months ago it would just kick the player that joined randomly and then sometimes objects would only show up for the host. It sucked because the objects I noticed it was happening with was the crates so I wasn't able to craft or do anything without the host constantly getting stuff for me. Love the idea of the game and ill continue watching over it until its good but I probably won't play it much.
