Stanley Donwood is the perfect person to represent Thom's and Radiohead's artistic vision. I love seeing the end product.
that room is like heaven for radiohead fans. your art is incredibly evoking
is the word evocative
@@coffeebeancoffeebean it is, but it's ok. He's right. That room is heaven lol
For sure

"He was the guy at art college that can actually paint, they kicked me out," -Thom Yorke 0:43
I find that very motivational. Don't doubt your skills. Very humble of him.
I find it pretty fascinating how Stanley Donwood is a sort of shadow member of Radiohead, and yet has had a massive influence over the audience's perception of their music. There is a sort of loop between the music and the artwork that makes them inseperable from one another
Kid A literally resembles the sound of the music so perfectly
I imagine that doing the artwork and music at the same time and in the same place enabled that. I think it’s like a feedback loop of the music informing the direction of the artwork and the artwork informing the direction of the music. And I think the same thing goes for the listener. The music affects how we see the art and the artwork affects how we hear the music. And it all works symbiotically to create that world in our minds. Idk maybe I’m just rambling.
@@Contributron no i agree
Amnesiac's artwork as well. The best words to describe that album and it's artwork is either jarring or odd. Or even nightmarish.
@@Christian-97 yes amnesiac is the best album oat for me
Love that they used Like Spinning Plates here, that song is CRIMINALLY underrated
Kid A's album cover is easily one of the most if not hauntingly beautiful cover. It sounds just like the album. Radiohead is the best band in terms of the album covers portrayed. I mostly bought kid A for the cover itself cause its beautiful to look at.
My hair stands up whenever I stare at the cover especially listening to the transition of the panic in National Anthem and the heartbreaking How To Disappear Completely.
To explain it shortly, this album can be described by "art is meant to disturb the comfortable and comfort the disturbed."
I am simply both.
One of the best, by far...
So true! I love your comment
I agree completely with you!
Completely agree, ive never heard someone apply that quote to radiohead and it completely clicks for kid A!
Inside the Malaysian edition of the album, the first pressing that is, there are additional artwork on oil paper which are amazing. Not available on EU or US edition somehow.
Thom, you looks more fitter and happier. Happy birthday
More productive also
A patient better driver

At ease. Eating well

"I find it hard to look at these without hearing the music... it's in them. It's encoded." Yes. This is how I've always felt about Stanley's work and RH. It's so intrinsically linked. What a great video! So happy to see them both smiling and enjoying themselves.
Hello, how are you doing it’s nice meeting you here.
A very different side of Thom showing through, smiling. even laughing! and seems to be totally at ease. It shows how essential that time was for him and thank you so much Stanley for helping to bring him back and reconnecting to his soul. Wonderful to have an idea of how the covers were created!! I thank the Higher Power who was by their sides during this time. Without it, what might have happened to Thom & Radiohead.....we wouldn't have The Smile and we wouldn't have this "gem" of a musician with us now. His spirit shines through and I hope he finds time to paint?? A very busy man and a joy to behold. Lots of love to you both xx
Hello, how are you doing it’s nice meeting you here.
@@Bono- Lol, will the real Thom please stand up.
It's almost possible to hear the stabbing red on Amnesiac's cover, whilst listening to the album. Stanley Donwood captured it perfectly.
Thom seems to be an adorable person, down to earth, modest. I don't only like the artist or the band radiohead, it seems that everyone in the band are so likeable and simple.
A perfect marriage of visuals and sound. Stanley Donwood's is an essential part to Radiohead.
Thom's laugh give me 1.000 years of life
Thanks daddy Thom
Radiohead literally birthed me. Thank you

I’ll never forget getting Kid A in the year 2000 and wondering how they made art that somehow looked and felt like such a perfect representation of the music. It was so impressive.
I love these dudes, hearing how deep thoughts and ideas turn into their art.
Probably the best band I’ve ever heard.
I was lucky enough to help Stanley build his exhibition in Sydney a few years ago. He gave me and a few mates complete control to let loose with nail guns and spray cans for a few days. Was a great weekend, even cooked him a roast dinner. He's a top bloke.
I like Thom's cheeky laugh and it's amazing that his speaking voice is so different to his singing voice. He also suits that man bun.
Thanks for being here, Thom and Stanley.
Greetings from former Yugoslavia. I'm in love in Radiohead, in Stanley's work for a yearssss and I had no idea that Residential Nemesis is about Yugoslavia... it's fascinated. Thank You for compassion..
I always liked the crying demons on page five, especially the one with the running headless man behind it. It looks so clean, like it's a tattoo I would want to get. And the graveyard on page eight. It's so spooky. And on page 13 it's the crying demon again with this really spooky beast walking by a tree on these grid lines. I thought that was really cool looking. I think after listening to Radiohead for 20 years now Kid A is my ultimate favorite record, and I always appreciated the art of the album. SO it's really cool to hear this interview. Thanks!
I tattooed one of those crying minotaur-like demons on my right foot. My girlfriend at the time had gotten some tattoos on her feet, so I thought, I can take that lol. So tender. Hurt so much, so uncomfortable getting it on there. That crying Demon reminds me that even monsters feel. Most times when you meet some real A-hole, it's just a very hurt person who was hurt a long time ago and never learned or was never taught how to cope with pain. It's easier to make someone feel your pain with hurtful words than it is with reason and articulation sometimes. Only love can kill the demon. Be kind. Even to us monsters. Signed, some guy that's been working to solve his anger issues since childhood without professional help.
My Love for Radiohead goes far and beyond words. Radiohead and Bjork.😁
I found my soulmate. 😉😂
Bjork is awesome, and she's adorable
I love his voice so much 💙
They totally achieved what they set out to: the music and the art are inseparable
Stanley Donwood es Radiohead en todo su esplendor y Thom lo agradece subiendo este video ❤️.
Stanley is just incredible. He plays a huge part of the Radiohead family.
Stanley and Thom are a match made in heaven. Utter magic.
😂😂😂😂
Radiohead is truly a cosmic blessing.
That’s the coolest part! You can’t look at the artwork without hearing the music encoded in it, or feeling the same things you feel listening to the music as you look at the art. It’s not just music and it’s not just art, and it’s beautiful done because if that.
Ayyy Happy belated birthday Thom! You're already a blessing to this life but I wish you the best ♡
Authentic, from their music to their art, Radiohead remains legendary.

This brought tears to my eyes. Thank you for sharing your tremendous creativity.
I could watch hours and hours of this stuff. Thanks so much for sharing.
Bloody hell, that was so much fun! And that bit at 4:33 when I did finally notice the top part there... I almost fell off my chair, wow!
And, Stanley, my good sir, I do believe the art on an album cover, back... , when invested and inspired, can have a definitive intrinsic value for, as with all art, it can definitively influence the transformation of a posponing the purchase of an album moment into an immediate viceral need to acquire it NOW moment.
Ah... art is delicious and necessary.
No other creative output has had such an effect on my life as that which the members of this band, Stanley and Nigel produce. It means something so deep to me. If any of them ever read this I want them to know that I really love them, in the purest and most real way possible. Thank you🙏
One of them made one of the best songs of all time
One of them made one of the best album covers of all time
I couldnt imagine a more Dystopianly Symbiotic Artist to Thom, other than Jonny
Such a cool art style.
The Eraser also has a fantastic cover.
Stanley's art is always full with meaning and purpose and emotion and is simply beautiful. One of my absolute favorite artists.
I dont know how but I actully like this very much

You guys are amazing. The artwork is incredible.
Keep doing what you do Thom, Stanley. Love you guys!
This upload just made my day.
Perfection. Both of them are legends
Back in the late 90's there was a pretty strong rumour on the Radiohead mailinglist and message boards that Stanley Donwood didn't exist and was just a pseudonym for Thom or the collective band, because no one could find out any info on him (the internet was very crude and dishevelled back then). I'm both happy and disappointed that he does, indeed, exist.
Sitting in awe of this. Radiohead would not be the same without visuals...this art punctuates and communicates every single stage of their growth as a new millenia dawned upon us. Truly wonderful to hear these stories. I'm a bigger fan now than ever before.
just two people at the top of their game and have been for so long.
Kid A is probably one of the album in the world
They really are one of the most rated bands of all time*

As pinturas das artes desse cara são sensacionais, elas nos transmite o que as músicas dos álbuns repassam de uma forma abstrata e intensa

Hello, how are you doing it’s nice meeting you here.
I can't imagine being unknown artist and being brought in by a band like Radiohead and given a space to work and collaborate with them in this manner. What a dream come true.
Thanqz 4 the SNL release also!
I was astounded by Kid A Mnesia virtual experience, sorry making it into a real life experience was not possible, too. Glad that Balkans, my home, was your inspiration for that painting, I'm sure you'd find more here for some dark art haha. It's been a long time since I'd seen something so inspiring, emotional, original and weird. Keep up the great work!

I need to see them live. I need to see them in concert. I need to experience that for the first time.
This is very cool, but what about the bears!?!? This was the period when the staring hunting bear logo came out. My favorite RH art and probably their most iconic still. Still doodle them involuntarily. Would love to know that origin story.
What can I say... I just love what you both doing 《❤》

And Stanley Donwood is just brilliant, this is a real treat. Definitely one of the best bands in terms of artwork, always something there.
Took me like 10 days to realize there was another booklet under the CD in the Kid A jewel case. My brain almost exploded.

I love Radiohead and Stanley the two got me out of a quite bad rut and really formed my paintings. I haven't seen art like Stanley's before and it is completely capturing of Radiohead's rawness and really fun to do, would recommend giving it a shot if you have the resources
