A fun fact: back then, they were using practical visual effects instead of digital, so the fire on the ceiling was real. Today the use of this kind of practical visual effects is illegal because it’ s really dangerous. When Jared/Sam was lying on the bed and Jensen/Dean burst into the room to save him, there was a live fire on the roof. The safety people told Jared and Jensen, that the moment they start feeling hot they should drop everything and run.

They discuss each episode of Supernatural with the cast, crew, and producers. During the podcast of the pilot episode Jared and Jensen were discussing of that scene and how it was filmed.
I don’t recommend the podcasts for Jeremy, they have huge spoilers.

I recommend watching the bloopers after you finish each season... Otherwise they'll add up to be HOURS. This show is why bloopers started to become so popular with other shows. Jensen and Jared are massive goofs.

Also the bloopers for this show is like 2 hours long so I'd reccomend when getting to that either a big special bloopers react or splitting into parts it's on the channel youtube wayward Winchester that's the channel the bloopers are on I believe

1. Welcome to the SPN Family!
2. This show has amazing gag reels at the end of every season. I highly recommend watching them when you do your season wrap ups because if you wait until the very end, you will have over an hour of gag reel footage to watch. Plus with how long this show is, you may forget the original scenes. Just a suggestion...you do you!
3. I love how not ten minutes into the first episode you are already writing Supernatural AU fanfiction where Sam Winchester is living his high school quarterback dreams. 🤣 It's time to head on over to Ao3 and get yourself and account, brother!

YESSS! First series since TVD I’m going to watch every episode of a reaction to. Can’t wait for this ride with you!
But man oh man my top 5 for shows of all time. Couldn’t believe this show was on back in like 06. I watched all 15seasons back in 2018 or so. Not gone say all the seasons are good but for sure just love the story telling I’m this show along with the creativity to just take you on a side quest for an episode then back onto the main story line. You gotta stay locked in brother , it’s only gone get better that’s for sure.
The show aired in 2005 (first season), and the events happen in 2005 too. Since then it stays the same (season 2 - 2006, season 3 - 2007, etc. until 2020).
The charcters are the same age as their actors (Sam/Jared 22, Dean/Jensen 26), and they age as their actors age.
It's really Jeffrey Dean Morgan.
NO SPOILERS
As the showrunners on the show changed, the seasons storytelling changed. Some people couldn't handle it and quit watching, missing out on some great stuff (some of my favorite character storylines were in seasons a lot of people didn't like due to perceived weak or scattered plotlines).
Here is a sort of list of showrunner changes. (Note, there were hard resets between S7-8 and S11-12 so it can feel a bit abrupt but there's great stuff anyway).
Seasons 1-5 deal with one overall plotline. Seasons 6-7 follow another overall plot. Seasons 8-10 follow assorted plots but some major character development archs. Seasons 11-12 show some major expansion to the SPN universe which then blends into the final seasons 13-15 section. There are definitely some slow spots in the mid to late series seasons but the central plot which is always the Winchesters relationships and personal development still shines through the iffy stuff. As long as you stay focused on them you will get through and enjoy the ride!

Supernatural is my absolute favorite show. You automatically get a subscribe if you start it. Interested in seeing how people respond to the journey.
The aging comment made me laugh, because you are talking about a man who looks 1000x better today than he did 17 years ago, and he was beautiful. Jensen definitely managed some supernatural aging spell. He actually was 26 when filmed, I think, 27 on air.
The pilot is very strong. It sets up the show well.
The fire at the end was real, and while wildly dangerous I think you feel the intensity. Jensen was genuinely freaked at how hard Jared was fighting, and was trying to pull him out.
If you are watching on Netflix the music is not the original music in season 1. It came out at the start of streaming, so music rights were bought for the DVDs, but not streaming, so if you want a list of changes I can get those. A lot of AC/DC was in the original music for this episode. Season 2 on it isn't affected.
I have seen probably a dozen reactors do the pilot, you are fiest to even consider the article, so props on the details.

Yes, that is Jeffery Dean Morgan. He plays John Winchester, father of Sam and Dean Winchester, hunter extraordinary.
Also, the actor that plays Sam Winchester is Jared Padalecki played the character Dean from Gilmore Girls. So, he wasn't a football star but he was a small town characters, hahaha.
About Dean not looking 26, the actor is Jensen Ackles and he was actually 27 when the season was created/aired. Nether of them look their age, even after all these years they look so young compared to their actual ages its insane.

So the first few seasons are kinda a contained storyline with a ‘monster of the week’ and after season 5 they go into different stories. So if you wanna take a break that would be the place to do it.

if you're an og x-files fans, you might recognize a lot of the actors, cinematography, and storylines. Many of the guest cast and crew came from x-files and the creator of Supernatural stated he was heavily influenced by it (I think the original premise of the show was basically x-files meets syfy's the chronicle from the early 2000s).
Oh man Jeremy, you should really add The Hillywood Show parodies. They actually have cameos from different actors from the show.
You can't do the parodies until after S10 ep 14 for the first and after S13 ep 1 for the second. So I recommend you wait until the end of the show.

I know that reacting to extra stuff AFTER the show is your thing but PLEASE reconsider reacting to bloopers after every season. You can do it in the same video as a recap if you think it would affect your schedule. Supernatural has the best bloopers of any show that I have watched and they help you to get to know the actors.
And around season 4-5 I would even suggest watching supernatural conventions (ask someone to help you choose videos to avoid spoilers). “Real world” is an important part of supernatural watching experience. It will help you understand inside jokes and references in the series. There even is one episode (quite early in the show) that will not make much sense if you won’t know anything about behind the scenes.
Trust me you will not regret watching convention compilations they are very entertaining. But I understand if you want to leave it for after the show. HOWEVER, bloopers should be watched after each season.

I am OBSESSED with 'SPN'. Hubby and I are on our second go round. We watched two episodes a day, five days a week and flew through it. Now we're doing 2-3 a week and taking it slow.
The only thing I would suggest is that you do the bloopers after each season. There is one for every season, and since there are 15 seasons, you might forget what happened in the earlier seasons, for context.

Just for your info, not sure if it was explained, Dean shot the Lady in white with rock salt bullets which can stop spirits momentarily. But you’ll get plenty knowledge of how to ward off creatures as you keep watching 😉😉
I have two Supernatural tattoos. My dog is named after a character you will meet later in the series. I told my husband (Sam) if we ever have a son we are naming him Dean!

New show woo hoo! I only saw the first 6 seasons of SPN and then I stopped. Been meaning for years to get back into it so I'll try with you. I recently rewatched the first 3 seasons I think, so once you're up to season 4 I will have to start watching again. I'll prob. end up falling behind but that's okay.
My pilot thoughts from my recent rewatch:
The first episode was so fun, I remembered parts of it from the first time I saw it and I loved seeing Dean and Sam again. I love their relationship and the eery vibe of the show is so great, I love creepy stuff. I do think the pilot got a bit slow near the end, but it was still good. I'd probably rate it a high 7 or low 8.
Jensen is SO young and his voice is so squeaky here too lol. (at least, for him) Personally I was always a Sam girl.
Love JDM, he is so good in every role that he's in!
One of the best shows. So glad you’re part of the community. The pilot episode with the woman in white, Sam and Dean being reunited to look for their father will always be remembered as the one that started it all.

A few (or more) things:
I’m sure someone else has already confirmed this, but that IS Jeffrey Dean Morgan.
Think of season one as the character- and story-building season, and season two as the lore-building season. Some hunting techniques from season one don’t necessarily… stick around 😅
Yes, there is a definite shift in tone after season 5. Eric Kripke originally planned for 5 seasons and ended his term as showrunner with the end of s5.
IMO, 6 and 7 are the worst seasons, despite actually having some of my favorite episodes and character introductions. Everyone has their own feelings about them, but I’d rather watch even the worst seasons of Supernatural before I watch almost any other show.
The fire in the beginning and ending scenes was actual fire because apparently things were WILD in 2005!
When streaming, the music in the first season (and only the first season) is NOT what originally aired. Basically, they didn’t account for the existence of streaming services when the first season was made, so the streaming music rights were weren’t included in the contracts and other songs had to be dubbed over the originals. The only way to watch it with the original soundtrack is on DVD. I highly recommend going back and watching with the original music sometime, because it significantly elevates a lot of scenes.
The original songs from this episode were:
-Eagles of Death Metal, Speaking in Tongues (plays when the guy stops for the hitch-hiking Woman in White)
-The Allman Brothers Band, Ramblin' Man (plays when Dean and Sam are at the gas station)
-AC/DC, Back in Black (plays after Sam finds Dean's cassette collection)
-AC/DC, Highway to Hell (plays when Dean says "Saved your ass")

Now that you are beginning this, I want to give you one BIG advice.. if at one point you get a little tired, just take a break.. I enjoyed the show and sometimes I see some reaction of season 4-5 (that are my favourites) and then some episode of the next seasons... what I don't like is that a lot of reactors, after 7/8 seasons, get tired of whatching it but they keep going anyways without taking a break, and at that point I feel like they feel almost forced to keep going for the subscribers.. I can't say that I'm part of the supernatural fandom (but I will rewatch the entire show with you becouse I like it), but I think that they would prefer to see a reactor taking a break for even a mounth or two and then coming back with the same interest of the previous season, than to see a reactor beeing almost forced to keep going.. I know you do only shows that you know you can enjoy, but I wanted to give you that advice anyway..
This show is my favorite show! I’ve watched this whole series so many times now I could probably recite every episode by heart, lol.. I wish that you would consider watching the gag reels after you’ve finished each season (instead of waiting to watch them all at the end of the series) because it really shows you the true dynamic between Jared and Jensen and you will love the show even more after seeing just how close these two guys are irl! They truly are like brothers and it shows when you watch the gag reels. They are both so hilarious too, and you really grow to appreciate the humor in the show more after watching how they are behind the scenes. I just know it truly made watching the show 1,000 times more enjoyable when I watched the gag reel after each season I finished. Starting this playlist now so I can catch up!
