Amazing how you managed to explain DA in just a few minutes, thank you so much. 🙂 also critical discourse studies would find your seemingly subconscious choice of using “she“ when referring to the nurse interesting 😉😉😉😉
me having no background in social science, after finishing reading foucault without understanding majority part of the books, thank you for explaining with such a way that i can understand, thank you
That was really fascinating. I'm just starting to wrap my head around definitions of discourse and literacy and your very succinct overview was quite helpful. Thanks so much for sharing it on CZcams!
Thank you very much Dr, great presentation and very informative. I've just started doing my PhD in international relations in a Malaysian university and this is valuable. Regards.
discourse analysis is one of the disciplines, that deals with language use.it's about how sentences, the most complex uh not within a language systeme ;are actually put to use and combined with each other. a discourse: is a set of spoken and written sentences that are connected together in a cohesive manner to make sense.
Yes ! This is the VERY basic interpretation. However Ppl dont understand unless you add context. (Ps. What i just said is an individuals discourse analysis of your comment) 😎 it's almost too simple it goes over peoples heads 😎
@@starrygabes9108 i still don’t understand. Can u please helpp and please explain it to me? Because i took a course about it, missed the first few lessons and i have no idea.
I'm sitting for a final examination board in a few days. It is Linguistics and I find this topic rather difficult to understand. This video was really useful! Thank you so much for sharing. BTW if I pass Linguistics, I graduate as an English teacher :) Thanks for sharing, Marcus!
What's the difference between discourse and prejudice? If I think of a rock, my view of rocks represent a discourse or is it a prejudice, meaning I'm projecting from my thoughts what a rock is vs actually knowing or understanding what a rock is.
I may be misinterpreting, but an inanimate object such as a rock can never reply, therefore, discourse never happens. However, if say you have a prejudice against people wearing cabbages for hats, then having a conversation with said hat wearing cabbage person start a discourse and potentially highlight any prejudices you have. Discourse = conversation. Prejudice thoughts are not discourse, just a mindset.
Hello Mr. I just found this video refer to my research to use discourse approach/analysis. I have a question related to this video (Discourse). what about discourse analysis to determine the equivalence and difference of two kind things from socio-cultural perspective to discourse analysis (socially or culturally based discursive practices).
Good explanation in the first 10 minutes of the video. For the second part, please improve your handwriting, because it's so much not good that it is distracting from the topic itself

I couldn't agree with you more - Foucault was one of the most tedious texts I've ever had to read. Dr. Marcus paraphrased brilliantly.

How about discourse structure? Anyone here, please!
None is the right way, but I think at least one is the wrong way...
They can all be the "right" way given a clear explanation as to why you utilized that particular method.
