Yeah its quite stabilizing, if you try to just move your thumb back and forth (even doing it in the air in front of you while paying attention to it), you wont have consistent movement, but using your index finger to stabilize it gives it pretty fine control with less chance of a thumb twitch launching you in a direction. Love to see it
I just tried it and actually kinda like it, less strain on the hand and i feel like you have greater precision, though i lack the practice with it, kinda want to try it for a while and see. it'd be a good backup for when my thump hurts.
Thank you for sharing this. Sandder is an old TMU player (probably started with Tm Original), part of the very successful CMC team at the time (you can see other CMC names on some of the maps). It's refreshing to see some of these old names pop up. Among other ones I know are French players Lolomax (/Grolomax on your slow Snow COTD video the other day) and Cibermix which I saw on few maps in this video as well, as well as Roa who was very skillful at all Original environments in TMU at the time.
7:36 when I was into RC boats, planes and helicopters, i saw quiet a lot of people using this grip. Especially for planes and helicopters. But RC controllers have a lot longer sticks + many of them have hight regulation, so it is much more convinient to pinch. In general it is better for precision near the center.
"So far, nothing too spectacular" after my record 😅. In all seriousness though, great video Wirtual! Been watching you long before I decided to actually pick up TM. Never thought Id see my name in one of your videos, I'm still super new to the game XD
7:34 I used to pinch my steering analogue on my controller my entire childhood, it actually gives you more precision depending on how your brain processes information, i think. When you pinch, you can make the analogue stick go exactly where you intend it, where using one thumb can be more indirect. If you were to be someone who uses their controller this way, you're kind of naturally inclined to, and you naturally started holding your controller like that from the beginning because it felt more comfortable.
7:36 I had a friend of mine who used to play competitive Super Smash Bros with me, and this was the exact grip he used on his stick as well. Threw me off completely when I first saw him play LOL
I appreciate the many acknowledgments of us from twitch. We can't say hi back, but they still make us feel like we matter. Thank you twitch for being considerate!
One thing I've always noticed in Rally Games is that Analog has always reigned supreme because of the way dirt is designed to act in most Games. I played Grand Turismo 3 on PlayStation 2 since my Childhood, and have set Personal Bests on the Rally Tracks that have beaten some records by mere Seconds (intended way ofc). I knew which Car and Tuning Upgrades were the best to use for Rally Tracks (A Suzuki Car if I remember), the lines you needed to take, and the overall route for beating such tracks. As for Trackmania, the records lay the same for Rally, and it's because of how dirt behaves in this Game and many other Racing Games. Dirt (across all Racing Games that I know) tends to have what's called a Slip-Friction Mechanic (the Car oscillates on a set interval between Slipping and Gripping the Terrain). This is what gelps Developers simulate Dirt in Racing Games (most other programs can do this for you by changing slip values or by changing the roughness of terrain to add grip sections to the track, but this is the typical way most Racing Games have done it). Because of the Slip-Friction Mechanic of Dirt, it's not a good idea to take the Ideal Racing Line (a Racing line in which you brake early and turn sharper to get more Acceleration and staighter lines out of a turn). This is why most Keyboard Players have Records on other Roads besides Dirt or Rally. In the Rallying Scenario however, there's a special line that Rally Drivers use called the Ideal Rally Line, or the Drifting Line (a Racing line where you approach and initiate a Drift to keep your Car on the inside line while still preserving Speed through the turn). In Rally Racing, precision is key to maintaining a clean RRL, and Digital Control Systems (like Keyboards with On /Off Input states) do not have the same level of precision that Analog Systems do, which is why Analog Systems (Like Controllers or Joysticks) are superior on Dirt or Slip-Friction Terrain. Hope this has educated some of you folks. Controller Users have an edge with percision, and in fact its in far more ways than one 😊
Rally C1 Reloaded, the one at 5:00 is a track I really enjoyed myself on keyboard with action key two. Very playable, and I'm not surprised he got that record. Keyboard would probably be easier for consistency. Really don't like snow car, but I found rally car pretty cool even on keyboard!
@@vdqm 10-12 hours ago there was a terror attack in one of the huge malls. Group of armed people went in and started to shoot civilians. 60+ got killed by them. After that they set concert hall on fire which led to more death from suffocating and fire. Special forces got to there too late to catch them cause of Friday’s traffic jams. So for now every structure tries to find them.
Dont feel discouraged Wirtual- @ the 20:41 part i need to completley stand still and tab gas so i can make the turns at all. And Sandder just full speed through :D
In competitively melee, we call that "claw grip"! Well specifically, left hand claw, where right hand claw is more common, but there are some people who claw both hands!
Forever.SL's grip is much more precise though. It's also a grip you commonly see in fpv racing as "thumb control" is much less precise than using "pinch grip".
how i activate the eyes to see other peoples records? is it a plugin or is it a fature of the most expensive subscription plan? english is not my first language srry for my bad writing
The rally car is so precise and quick in steering, and drives less fast... i think the smaller dirt/rally blocks really complement that instead of having wider tracks
Control stick pinch gives more 360° control (especially movements that require precision followed by quickness) at the cost of shoulderbuttons, it's probably not necessary for a game with only one axis but don't sleep on the technique!
With the controller debacle, I wonder if anyone has considered playing with something like an osu tablet where left/right on the tablet send left/right inputs correlating to how far left/right on the tablet they atr
Is the short cut at start of track 22 not viable? There is a small jump off to left before structure at start with a good line can cut a little time(?)
I feel like this Trackmania needs a dedicated top 100 leaderboard that makes getting records feel more prestigious. And I think they should call it “Dedimania Records”.
Everywhere you use mostly rally car controller just dominate. Idk why games don’t try and make a balance between controls people choose instead of making one just overall better.

15:34 that's actually badass
What isn’t badass on trackmania
But yes that is particularly badass
the pinch grip is extremely common in RC stuff like quadcopters
yeah, that was what I thought, he probably grew up doing model planes and never learned how to do the other way when getting into games

Pinch? Isnt what's gameers commonly call claw grip ?

no. The claw is with thumb on stick, pointer finger curled up to press the buttons.
20:06 the throttle matches the music
underrated comment lmfao i love this
This is insane xd
So relieved that Wirt went back to look at that wood turn.
It's the year of the WirtualTV channel! Keep up the amazing work!!

Every now and then I catch myself using that grip (I’ve only ever had 1 or 2 $50 max drones in my life)

I would second this. Hi twitch viewers.
wirtual: *sees an amzing turn*
wirtual: That is hot.
ngl wirtual has been and is and will stay as the best trackmania streamer i have ever watched .Goodwork, and keep it up
If i were a mapper i would make a map called 'motorcycle' and have the theme be that you gotta tilt on two wheels all over
I just picture Granady having the meme laser eyes when they announced the snow and rally cars lol. Seriously, he's an unstoppable god with them.
It’s not Rally if it’s easy!

7:36 That's how I used the N64 controller as a kid since I was too young to read how to do it correctly.

Great video, Wirtual.
Thanks for stopping by our club today!
if people are this precise with rally tilts, I can hardly wait to see what comes of the inevitable desert car
I hope you have a great day, love the content, been watching is wr on 19. Really appreciate your work. ❤️
I'm trying my best to get into this game but Nadeo has been making it so hard to learn
7:39: pinching is actually a well used technique among FPV quad pilots. its more precise
The two-wheel action off the edge of the wood tracks is bonkers
21:05 F to the guy who's so out of the loop that he's surprised they aren't playing on keyboard
lmao
Honestly this video dragged me out from despair after recent events in Moscow. Thx Wirtual you made me feel a little bit better.
what was happening in Moscow I don't see anything on the news in Canada
I believe there was a shooting and fire at a Moscow Theatre.@@vdqm

KID ICARUS MUSIC GRAHHHHH
Taking advantage of the car tilt on wood to take ridiculously inside lines is so cool.
Forever’s way of holding the controller is called “the claw”
The wood turns with no inside wall/kerb... that's so satisfying!
No way this guy says "quantum slide" unironically
exactly man its so annoying, its just a noslide
Gotta love that they drive the stadium car more like a rally car than the rally car

God, that Kid Icarus Uprising soundtrack is just... it just takes me back. God, that game was so good. It was actually a perfect game.
The Ralley car is so much more fun to watch than the snow car. Maybe it's a good thing they released it in this order.

You can only guess, how's Forever trained to hold stick that way😂
Been really enjoying this week+ of all these new videos.
Still don't play Trackmania though.
my question about the rally car: What is the point of steering past 40% if it's not useful? What if they just made that the new 100%
look how quick it spins on ice at 100%.
Would definitely like to see some really tight tracks, proper rally style.
