Small town life!! Rural Michigan here.
This video by Director, Wes Edwards, is now 10 years old and is still a masterpiece to me. In just 3.5 minutes, he makes this cool Aldean song come to life with tremendous visual snapshots and a story line that exposes all our human emotions. I love the small town shots around town of a young couple just trying to get started out in life, especially the carving of the tree, while she wears his worn out ball cap and he has his dog tags around his neck. Her boy then gazes at the tree, sporting the same cap. It's raw and perfect!
It's hard to consciously realize it, but he finds a way to match the beat and transition of the music with the video cuts. I'm no expert, but it just seems to flow in a way that you can't keep your eyes off it. The image of the military knocking on her door, matched perfectly with a cymbal sound, is long lasting and powerful. I noticed that it took me a good 5-10 replays of this entire video to catch almost everything. I love coming back to watch it from time to time.
This audio/video journey reminds us that life can't always stay the same and time will always march into the future. Will you "leave your mark on it"?
This song will forever be my favorite. The reason be is because my grandpa plays it whenever I'm at his house or we're polishing his guns. He says that on the oak tree outside of his house has a mark of his and my grandma's name. Thank you Jason for writing such beautiful music, it always brings my family closer. ♥

Here's a crazy little fact for you, the guy who plays the protagonist of this music video is one of my best friends. I knew him for months before he made an off-the-cuff comment that he was "in a music video." Dang! I don't listen to country music and I was in Japan at the time so I'd never heard this song before he told me about it. It's still a bit surreal seeing him in this.

I remember watching Top 20 Countdown in 2011 when this song was brand new. This music video played when I left for school and my mom asked me if I knew this song, and I said "I don't know." It soon became my favorite song and has been since I was 10 years old. I love this music video so much, not only with the nostalgia but the story of growing up in a small town and our veterans fighting for our country. Thank you J for making this masterpiece.

I love this song. It really takes me back to my stress free days on my farm in Thrall, Texas. Its been really hard lately so I'm listening to bunch on country music that was on the radio at the time. This song makes me happy. I live in Austin, Texas now and i dont get to leave the city much anymore. Music, animals, hunting, and fishing are really the only way for me to forget the bullshit that is going on right now. I wish people who hate country music would sit down and listen to the good stuff. I'm not a big fan of most of Jason's music but this song and Old Dominion's music really make a difference to me.

Alyssa Winters when my dad was deployed he was flying in a helicoptet at night and the iraqis were shooting at the helicopter and he said "I can't die my wife will kill me." And thank god he is still here with us. Every time i see this video i thank god I didn't have marines in dress blues knock on my door.

this was my dad’s song . he passed 2 years ago . i remember the days when i was a kid , he would watch and listen to this song and video and he would cry.. i never understood the reason . but now that i’m older i watch and listen , and i cry . maybe i understand the song more , and maybe it’s more of just the remembrance and the memories of me and him listening to it together ... miss ya Dad.

Being from a small town this song is my theme haha. I live in a town surrounded by other small towns and we make up one county and this was our graduation song. We all grew up close and a lot of my friends I'm still connected with. Love my little town and love our little county.
I've been to a few of thise funerals with the 21 gun salute. Always makes me cry. Small towns are awesome and those of us that grew up in one get this song.

Every time I see this music video I cry my eyes out! It's just so emotional to me because I never want to leave the town I've lived in my whole life or lose my friends should they die while serving in the Army, National Guard, and the Air Force.
That's how I feel about my brother rn, he's in the marines, but he won't ship until after college, but it still scares me thinking he might die, me on the other hand, I'm ok if I die in the military, because I've accepted it
