Watch PERFECT BLUE: amzn.to/338PSNu - Krátké a kreslené filmy
An online persona feels more like ourselves because it is us with proofreading and multiple takes. It's the wish fulfillment of wanting to go back in time and say or do something differently.
And, I've said it before, but Perfect Blue is one of the horror movies that genuinely rattled me. When it was over I had the same sensation as waking from a night terror, I felt unsafe, shook, and the feeling persisted for almost a half hour.
It's sad this director passed away so young. Paprika is probably my personal favorite from him. Actually, a re-watch of Perfect Blue is certainly in order.
Yeah he was taken very suddenly by pancreatic cancer. I hate that disease. Took my brilliant uncle also.
We need a animation films video from you Eric !
Mima was forced to save herself, think for herself because of what all happened to her. She found a part of herself she didn't know she had. Rumi took her to hell but since she's mentally unstable it was hard for Mima to actually blame her for what happened. Thus,as a 'good way' of moving on she opts to credit Rumi while still visiting her once in a while. It could also be that Mima considers Rumi to be her biggest fan or something and it's nice to remind herself of how bad it can get by visiting her regularly. There are actually a lot of ways to interpret it..like the whole movie.
Great review!
Probably the best animated film ever , at least for adults. Slick.
Grave of the fireflies, Fantastic Mr. Fox, Princess Mononoke, and Mary and Max are also great.
It's not the only animated film for adults
@@sprawlz6466grave of the fireflies sucks it’s like watching a dog abuse commercial
@@TheChazzyC Not at all. It did a great job of depicting how difficult it is for even citizens to survive during a war as harsh as WWII. But the ending is not very fun to watch ngl
Nah
I'm so surprised you reviewed "Perfect Blue" ! Good review.
Perfect blue is amazing. Seriel experiments lane is also really good
SLE is a bit similar to PB in the sense that both use Internet as a means of exploration of self. Quiet amazing that the Japanese writers had such foresight about Internet, even in it's very early days. Fantastic show and what a trip!
I feel like there is a trio of adult anime movies that are all amazing in their own stories and tones, and they are Perfect Blue, Akira, and Ghost in the Shell (the old one)
for me, it was hard to know what really happened at the end.
Was it really Mima who left the hospital? or was it Rumi who left the hospital and she came to realize who she was meant or supposed to be through Mima?
was it Mima who stayed stuck in her fictional world conflicted of who she really was. Rumi seeing Mima as herself the fake, she said she was. Rumi being the real one.
Rumi drove a red car. the two nurses said it looked like Mima but maybe was not....
or was it Mima who pulled through it and Rumi stayed locked in her own fantasy still trapped thinking she was someone else. Mima was driving the red car, Rumi's car waaaas REd. being red was the symbol for the fictional and now Mami was in control of what her own facts how she wanted them.
why would Mima say I am the real me in the car?
We know why Rumi would say it.
so who really came out that hospital?
Kon died too soon :(
How come no one’s talking about “Paranoia Agent”? His best work in my opinion.
Clarification. At the end when Mima says she wouldn't have found herself without her - She wasn't talking about Rumi, she was talking about the pop idol persona. Without confronting that identity, and breaking through its limitations of what she could be, she wouldn't have found herself.
I love this review. I agree with many of your points, though I ultimately think I like it more than you say you do. I’d love to see you review Peter Weir’s Picnic at Hanging Rock (1975). It’s likely you haven’t seen it, since it’s a lesser known film, but I think you’d really love it.
This movie was such a mind-bender. I loved it! For Mima's identity, or rather lack of a real one, is likely due to her being an idol in Japan's entertainment industry. For them, it's really quite horrible in the way that they're essentially property, and their lives and image are dictated by their managers. Which I think made it even better for a type of character in this movie, because they don't know really who they are or what they like.
And indeed this is definitely one of those films that stick with you forever. The rape scene was probably the most difficult and haunting scene for me. It was so well done, in the way that it really felt wrong, even though it was just acting. And something about the sequence, in those moments, seeing the pop idol image of her fading back against the blownout white light, with the male crowd cheering, was just haunting and in a way even sickening. I say that, because under that male gaze that female celebrities go through, there are a lot of guys out there that enjoy seeing their favorite star in a scene like that or any sort of sex scene, as it feeds a sexual fantasy they may have about them.
I wish more people enjoyed animated films, and took them seriously rather than just its "kid stuff" or whatever. Because this film is quite a masterpiece.
It's your channel, and I'm grateful for the content you give us. However, I was wondering if you would consider reviewing Hausu(1977)?
Definitely. Likely around Halloween time.
One really interesting thing about Satoshi Kon is his manga work. His opus, named Opus is very risky in how it teasers apart the the fraught relationship between creator and created, artist and artwork. But it is unfinished. And then his really out their collaboration with Mamoru Oshii, Seraphim, is really interesting, but again, it is unfinished. One of his works that is finished is a really beautiful urban (?) fantasy story called Tropic of the Sea. When I was reading it, I kept on imagining what his film adaptation would have looked like. It would have been incredible and it would have given the likes of Ghibli, Makoto Shinkai or Mamoru Hosoda a run for their money.
Idk if you have, but I would love your thoughts on the film Angel's Egg. (You can get it free on CZcams)
If she hasn't already seen it, I think she would really like it judging by the kinds of movies she talks about on this channel. I second this, it's a beautiful movie that I can't stop thinking about
I really didn't understand this film.
Yes, Angel Egg, Mamoru Oshii (Ghost in the Shell). Good call. Also, recommend his LA movie about the anime creation process *Talking Heads.*
Yay! Maggie is finally letting us show our appreciation!
Love your channel, Love this film!
Heads-up: Your audio is unbalanced. If you can, record your videos in Mono, or if you're editing in Premiere, use the effect "Fill Left with Right." 💖
I love this film so much. Thanks for reviewing it.
I love everything made by Kon. Perfect Blue is one of my favorites. Loving your reviews too.
I hope some day we hear your thoughts Belladonna of Sadness (and Memories (1995))
Just watched this film and of course had to hear your thoughts. Agree 100% the final “twist” didn’t make sense in the context of the film didn’t seem to serve the story. I liked it a lot still.
For a second I thought this was a review of that LL Cool J movie with the sharks lol
Goddamn I love that movie.
Very intriguing film. Paprika and Millenium Actress are also worth seeking out. Also, could you watch and review Love Exposure from 2008? I'd love to see your thoughts on it.
I have never clicked a video so fast
Great to hear your opinion on this movie.
This movie was amazing! I understand what you meant about adding a little more for emotional aspect but I think what made it so great is he left so much to interpret for the audience. Everyone has an opinion, but seemed kinda knit picky. I've never seen the Parika film.
I thought of the end where rumi is revealed as 'the purpetrator' was kinda just another element of mimas insanity. Not that rumi really was it, but mimas perception of everything was becoming so distorted that she thought rumi was.
A good review I liked it as always
I'm having trouble setting up a Patreon donation. When I click on your avatar it doesn't do anything. Weird.
Try again. I think I added the wrong link. I've just fixed it. Let me know if it's still an issue. Thank you!
I really like your reviews 10/10, the old ones are the best because are the best movies. Additional to what you covered I'd add the critics that Satoshi expressed on the Japanese loli culture and I'm with you that it can be a bit a confuse interpretation. I like a lot Millenium Actress, give it a try if you didn't watch it before
'Tucker' [1988] Jeff Bridges in the title role
The true story of Preston Tucker; who developed a car [1944-1947] for the working person that was destroyed by the big automakers; because it was too well made, too long-lasting, and too affordable. planned obsolescence was not part of this great man's scheme, so the big carmakers had to plot against him. I'll leave it there. It's a tale of corporate greed and malfeasance. Some shit never changes. This is an overlooked gem of a film that tells an important story. A critical success, box office bomb. nominated for 3 Academy Awards, including Martin Balsam for a wonderful supporting role, none won... They did win BAFTAs, however.
Very nice video. I support you.💗
funnily enough i feel like black swan did a better job at creating a well rounded passive, innocent character for this type of story. we understand her motivations and emotional arc through the relationship with her mother and the creepy director. it also offers characters like beth & lily as mirror images / alternate personas of nina. plus we get to see the psychical dedication she’s putting in to her dancing which is adding to her psychosis and makes the strakes much higher. perfect blue did a stellar job at painting a surrealist nightmare while black swan is slightly more rooted in reality. i find them both effective at what they were trying to achieve.
Maybe she never had a strong sense of identity in the first place which made her easily susceptible to being swayed to the whims of the people around her.
RIP to the director
Do you have a letterboxd? If not, you should make one!
What is that? I keep hearing about it on this channel.
Stop the Philosophical Zombies it’s an amazing app where you can rate films, review films, make lists, log what you’ve watched, and much more. There are many users in there and it’s basically a film-centered social media.
@@lc3920 I may set a goal to get one.

Loved this film
"Excuse me, who are you?"
Hi there. I will try to watch Perfect Blue. I guess some say Aronofsky appropriated this one for Black Swan. I will keep an open mind on that one. (Actually I think he ripped off Jacob's Ladder.) Funny how some "geniuses" have originality issues . . .
Yay for the Patreon!
Have you seen the sadness ? It’s a Taiwanese horror film
Perfect Blue was made into a live action film of the same name in 2002 by another Japanese director. But it was nowhere nearly as engaging or interesting.
Can I Patreon a conversation with you? I'm happily married, so I'm not one of those... we just think alike and you have waaaay more insights than I do... would love to bounce ideas off you
Perfect Blue reviewed by Baby Blue 💙

"Japanese entertainment industry is weird."
Excuse me, who are you?
I expected your editing to be a lot better after watching Satoshi Kon.
The ads dropped in the middle of a word get on my nerves and kill your passion for this movie if you have any?
What is a woman?.. 🔵
Hey beautiful....❤️❤️❤️
