This means because they're stuck with whatever they got from that one shipment, they end up recycling food and serving it as leftovers. That also includes serving expired food because well, when you're in a remote place like Antarctica...an expiration date is just a suggestion. And the researchers need a huge number of calories to work out in harsh temperatures. Did I mention this doesn't stop McMurdo from having their own PIZZERIA? Because 'Merica

i remember my dad telling me about screaming barfies. It's pain so intense that it makes you want to scream but you're scared that you'll throw up if you do scream. It's because your body takes priority in keeping your core and organs warm versus fingers, toes, etc. The reason it hurts is because your core is warm enough to then warm the rest of your body, but hasnt let the blood flow through yet, even though the blood is trying to get to the other side of the "barrier". Eventually, the body sorta decides to let the blood through and then your fingers, toes, etc. are warm again. That, or the pain is from the sudden change of temperature after the blood is let into said part of body

Gloves are for keeping your hands warm, NOT warming them up.
Tips: hand warmers in the palm or attached to your wrist.
That paired with merino wool finger tipless gloves that will slide in and out of your bigger mittens.
