I don't get how any of the singers agreed to take part in this sacrilegious cringefest of a production.
Not only does this show the absolute lack of sensibility of the directors and designers, but the lack of talent in creating anything faithful and interesting, without having to resort to using gimmicks like this to create 'interest' within the audience.
Furthermore, this is a serious insult to the meaning of the singing to slap it onto an alternate sphere with no resemblance to the original words at all.
Also, why did Glyndebourne find one countertenor, and decide to cast him as Eustazio? This left a substandard performer with not only the wrong vocal quality but a complete lack of sensibility and musicality to play Rinaldo.
