Benedict also voiced Smaug from the Hobbit trilogy. He does a lot of cool stuff. Definitely a great actor. Can’t wait to see your Thor Ragnarok reaction. It’s got so much fan service in it and is easily my favorite MCU film.

He's actually a very good voice actor, he was also the voice of Smaug the Dragon AND Sauron, two of the main antagonists in the Hobbit film trilogy. There's some really fantastic (or hilarious) footage of him in a motion capture suit crawling on all fours and snarling, and despite how ridiculous it looks at first, when you see how he throws himself into the role of playing a realy large dangerous dragon, you gain a whole new respect for him, he's pretty dedicated as an actor.

    some meta lore:
Dr. Strange became extremely skilled/powerful through his near-infinite encounters/battles with Dormammu, learning and perfecting all of the mystic arts/powers/abilities/etc, using the Time Infinity Stone, as seen here, Dr. Strange wasn't merely near-infinitely dying, he was getting in a lot of practice with combat and the mystic arts, against Dormammu, as an opponent, until Dormammu finally bargained, due to being stuck in the time loop with Dr. Strange

    • @more-reasons6655

By the time of end game I think Dr Strange's mind is probably older than any one elses in the MCU. An eternity fighting against dormamu and 14 million alternate futures for infinity war. All that time in his first 2 years as a sorcerer

Lol. I have to say this often. The Cloak of Levitation has the incredibly cool ability of touch memory - as soon as it touches u, it knows everything that’s ever happened to u, your thoughts & feelings (and why it wiped Stephen’s tears in the mirror-it was comforting him☺️), it anticipates your needs & *knows* u, with no judgement. AND it has it’s own free will! *The Cloak* chooses who it wants to assist, then almost becomes a part of u - an extension of your body u can detach & it knows exactly what u want to do. It’s the absolute coolest artifact/magical item (sorry Mjolnir) in the entire MCU, in my opinion. I love the Cloak so very much. Plus…the mischievous lil’ scamp can fly!!! Come on. As Marian would say “game over, mahn”.😉

I started reading Dr. Strange comics back in my youth in the 60's. He was a top favorite of mine - I waited 50 years for this movie and I was not disappointed. Seeing it at the theatre in 3-D didn't hurt.
The Pink Floyd song Interstellar Overdrive is playing when his car crashes. The password Shambala is the title of a song by three Dog Night that talks about finding spiritual enlightenment. The man reading a book on the bus is Stan Lee who originally co-created Dr. Strange with Steve Ditko in 1963. The book he is reading is The Doors of Perception by Aldous Huxley.

I might be in a minority but I am not much of a Marvel/Superhero movie fan... I understand the necessity for "first time movie watchers" to broaden their public but there are so many real classics of American and foreign cinema, you could be watching "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest", "Chinatown", "Scent of a Woman" or "Das Boot"... why go for the convenient choices, there are good franchises (> 4films) but the problem is that once you pick one you have to go the whole way through...

In the universe, there are rules. But all rules are contingent on other things. One of the things Eastern Philosophy makes clear is the need to be flexible. Rigidity, purism, are Western concepts. And they are the road to terrible things; they are flawed. Eastern Philosophy teaches nonattachment. Western Philosophy is motivated by desire, and desire arises from fear and suffering and the attempt to avoid suffering. Eastern Philosophy recognizes that desire and fear and suffering can launch an individual towards wisdom, but wisdom is not achieved until attachment and desire is abandoned. Think of it as stages of a space bound rocket; to get to your destination, especially when conditions change, you have to jettison what no longer works. And one thing that becomes more obstacle than help is the concept of duality, of good & evil. Mordo is limited by his rigid reliance on duality.
Mordo is rigid, attached to rules. He fears flexibility and having to adapt to a place beyond the rules he has grown attached to. Mordo is limited by his attachment to the idea that he knows all the rules and is threatened by those rules not binding everything.
Fun Fact: in the 1970s the Dr Strange comics were written by Steve Englehart, who was a practicing Buddhist. One issue Dr Strange met God. In another, he meets Satan. Steve didn't hold back. For a superhero comic, it was amazing how much philosophy was contained in it. Steve elevated the character in an amazing way.
