I love how the Predator makes a hand gesture mimicking an explosion to tell her what the wrist gauntlet did.
I read a review that listed that moment as one of the worst in cinematic history... But I think they had other issues.
Personally, I think it's brilliant how Scar's able to communicate clearly with simple hand gestures and mime. I know humans who can't do that.

True, imagine if he just tossed it in without telling her. Just that simple gesture saved both their asses cause
1, any second later she would've been impaled by the xeno
2, that injury would've prevented her from quickly turning the pulley on
3, both her and predator die or predator suffers mild burn
if she would have just said "Good. I hope it kills all of them.", that part wouldn't have been as cringe. Like the gesture was clear enough for the audience to know its a bomb, no need to say it out loud.

Let's be honest here, you have to appreciate how fucking chill and honorable the alpha Predator was in this movie.
He saw that she was a blooded. It instantly makes her part of their clan and to be respected by them.

I’ve been rewatching all these clips and the interactions between Lex and Scar is some of the best “show don’t tell” storytelling I’ve ever seen
I think I appreciate it because Lex and the predator have their idiot ball moments throughout the film, but they're also both shown to be competent and intelligent people. It makes their scenes together just really great.
When the Predator offers you the mark, you accept it.

In order for an untested juvenile Yautja to be excepted as a skilled warrior, first he must prove he is worthy by successfully hunting hardmeat. That's what the mark represents. The scene where he meets the woman and makes a shield and spear for her instead of killing killed this movie. The scene where she is blooded killed the franchise

The fact that she becomes blooded is the only real close thing to predator and human as one not one hunting the other. So once again, since there's no machiko in any film only comic. For those who are wondering, the mark he gave her is the symbol/status of a Blooded member of the Yautja hierarchy. The title is earned after one kills their first Xenomorph. Many clans differ when displaying this title, but the clan in this film marks themselves with the blood of the Xenomorph they killed. That is why the Elder at the end of the film gives her the Combstick, because not only is she a member of the hierarchy but she was given the weapon of a highly respected and skilled hunter.
Not to mention she went above and beyond to obtain one, she slew multiple Xenomorphs and a queen, a feat few Yautja ever accomplish in their lives.

@@thomasramirez5132 It was killed bro, Xenos have their limits, and drowning with no oxygen, whilst suffering from the change in pressures of the oceans depths as it descends certainly qualifies.
Additionally the queen was able to survive being frozen was because the Yautja placed her in suspended animation or something.

Given she survived in a tomb that was filled with Xenomorphs and losing her friends I don't think having a face reveal from the yautja (predator) who was helping her from that point isn't frightening.
The fact that he felt she was worthy enough to share his clan marking I think means he truly saw her as an equal. I think her keeping up pace with him and escaping without any other help really sealed the deal in his eyes. Also love the fact they're sentient enough to purposefully try to scare us with the growl whenever they remove the mask. All these little tests constantly testing your fortitude. Really fits their lore so well. I don't care this movie was a great addition.
well if u think about it, he witnessed her kill 2 xenomorph. One when she grabbed the spear and it charged her killing itself, and another when she grabbed the mining tool and shot it, saving the yautja.

I like how it seems like the predator roared at her to see if she was still the frightened woman she was earlier when he made the Xenomorph's second mouth pop out and scare her. She didn't even flinch and he looked pleased. Great attention to detail. Great premise. Great lead. Such a great movie over all. I remember when it first came out a lot of people I knew, who grew up with the AvP games, were upset... but I genuinely love this movie.

They also give themselves names, Hashori for example (female pred) speaks fluent English and breaks it down. Many of her clan however, don't know what "Yautja" means.....eluding that humans might have given them the name.
Fun fact: I heard that while filming with the queen while she was imprisoned, she accidentally knocked her own teeth out with her inner jaw! The film crew spent over 2 hours looking for all the teeth because they are transparent and they had a hard time finding them all lol.

I think the main take away from this movie is that that even in the face of something really scary and dangerous, it is worth it to just be nice to other people and not be afraid to help someone, even if they're different from you.

This movie gets way too much flack. It's almost 20 years old and the blend of CGI and practical effects stands up better than most movies that come out these days. Plus, Scar was awesome.

I still don't understand why some people hate these movies.. It's not like they claimed trying to be better than the originals, just tributes, a love letter.. They really did a good job respecting the legacy of these 2 franchises, what was before, and they even added bits of lore into it, and expanded a little some of the origins, without giving away too much. In the end, the Predator and the Xenomorph still remain mysteries.
Can't really say the same about Prometheus and Covenant, who are litteraly two inconsistant piece of stories one from another, that can be concidered an acidic spit on the face of the fans, and even on all the sequels of the original movie. It's like Ridley didn't even bothered checking on what has been done after """his""" movie, and ignored every elements of established, canon lore.
Prometheus clearly showed that the Space Jockeys created the Aliens, and for Covenant he said, I quote : "And then I changed my mind, David created them." Which basicaly makes Prometheus... Not canon..? So the murals showing a Xeno and Facehuggers, the actual Alien at the end and all, it didn't happen...? Yeaaah.. I'm out, if you don't know what you want to tell us at the end of the day Ridley, no one else will do it for you.
AVP aged pretty decent. I don't like the setup they decided to go with but within that setup action and portrayal of creatures is superb.
AVP2, however, is a letdown. Even if we ignore horrible plot, action and camera work is painful to watch. And aliens were portrayed very bad, part of it was clear lack of budget into making their appearance and movement look good.

Agreed on this film, it's pretty awesome. Requiem though...nah. That was genuinely just awful. I do also agree though that Prometheus and Covenant suck. Prometheus is a bit better though still unnecessary, Covenant is just insulting and ruins the Aliens completely with David creating them. They should be an ancient species that's akin to Lovecraftian horror with no known origin

prometheus says the xeno's were created by engineers, which makes sense, otherwise Alien, the FIRST EVER MOVIE, and its derelict bomber full of xeno eggs, howed that happen?
and then david created A xenomorph, not THE xeno's, not the race, a SINGLE xeno (or a small clutch from the eggs we saw) perhaps following a blueprint of the engineers or somthing?
but back to david, the genetic accelerant, the black goo, might very try its damnest to make the xenomorphs we all know and love, it just needs specific conditions or somthing - thus the egg is not the first life stage of the xeno, its the black goo.
we saw that if the goo infects a person or a plant (what the hell are those poppers made from?) it can then release spores that can infect somone and, releasing a tiny ammount of the black goo, it starts creating a neomorph, or bloodburster - whatever you wanna call it.
but if you take somthing SPECIFIC, cells of a living creature or somthing similar and combine it with the black goo - it might very well start growing a xeno egg or close to it
perhaps that would explain the engineers, the mala'kak's hatred for humans - we are an incomplete product, a stain on their name and reputation, the xenomorphs are what they hoped to accomplish but its the HUMANS, their FAILURES who are all over the galaxy.
which is kinda funny when you think about it, humans and xenomorphs comming from the same creator, we are. in a spiritual sense, siblings - yet look at what we do to each other when we meet
or, maybe even, we are the left over ingredients they used to make their xenomorphs, and they dont need us or want us around anymore

@@BosSupes After Covenant, I do prefer Prometheus slightly more, I think it works as it's own separate movie, if you don't try to think hard that it is somehow connected to Alien.
There are a lot of dumb plots moment and stupid decisions yes, a lot of moments that broke my suspension of disbelief (the whole med-pod procedure scene, the space map in caves ((stars and planets move over thousands of years....)) taking off the helmet in an unknown environment. Yes, your tech says the air is breathable, but it didn't said if something else is breathing this air, like Alien micro-bacteriological life, viruses that wouldn't be registered... You know, the whole reason the invasion failed at the end of War of Worlds... *sighs*)..
But anyway, poo still smells like poo at the end of the day, even if they have a different color x) ... And weirdly, after these two, I have to admit... I kind of like Requiem too...? I consider it under the first AvP, but... So much about this movie that I like. The fact they purposely broke a lot of horror movies codes (killing kids, the hero's girlfriend, pregnant women...) These were bold moves.. I liked the fact that in terms of visual and sounds, there was a lot of references... That is, the *few* moments you could actually see anything on screen, other than pitch black, hehehe... Heck, it even connected the saga by adding Yutani corp. Which makes so much sense. Weyland studying the Xenos, and Yutani the Predators ? Yeah, no wonder the both merged, and we see how it ended in the games set in the future... I would have loved a third movie in the future, with marines and all, that would have been awesome.
Predators and humans make a formidable alliance against aliens. I'd like to see a movie with that plot.

This was WAY better than Requiem. You can actually see everything going on cause it’s not so fucking dark like Requiem. And a predator and human working together to kill the xenomorphs was awesome.
I used to think it was stupid, but now I think it's just awesome and oddly sweet.
I actually like the Requiem plot. Predator ship crashes and lets out a bunch of face huggers so another predator shows up to clean the mess up. Plus that Predator is pretty bad ass in that movie.

Imagine taking that sled on winch back up just on a expedition without aliens being there, like, who the hell programmed it to go 300mph.
I think it was an emergency override, but I still love the way they rode that thing up at literal breakneck speed and once they reach the top it cuts to the explosion, then just back to them running. Like what, did they max their acrobatics skill and tuck and roll? Who walks off being launched out of a subterranean arctic alien temple anyway?

I thought the warp function was hilarious as well. Somebody needs to make a realistic spoof of that scene where they jump on it and it crawls up the tunnel like a winch geared low to pull heavy loads actually would and the predator looks at the girl and clearly says "what the f***" cut short as they are both consumed by the blast

Yes, scar was the most charismatic yautja imo
Here are 3 things they should have done differently:
1) Scare taking off his mask & getting jumped by Facehugger was possible but unlikely. The Predators knew the place is swarming with Facehuggers, and wloud have never have taken thier masks off midhunt. Hence for no Pradalien Chestbuster.
2) As cool of a boss fight as it was, there's no way the Queen could have survived that explosion, nor the collapse that followed. Hence for, Scar didn't get impaled in the final fight.
3) Lex whole story begins with her shown to be a survivor, a person of nature who doesn't belong in humanity's urban life. Her place was in the wailed, and after earning the mark, she truly belonged with the Predators tribe. Had Scare survived she would have followed him onto the ship, making the ending fur more pleasing & interesting.
Let's not forget the Aliens did not give up without a fight.
Yeah that's why the predators mostly hunt them for sport given the Xenomorphs don't have fear for any living creature.

I’ve always had a highly amount of respect for the predators because they do everything with honor or at least the ones that are not rogue and they have a sense of mercy and have a cool way of showing that respect towards humans

I remember watching this as a kid and the relationship between Scar and Lex always stuck with me. Two completely different species who can't completely verbally communicate fight against a common enemy together. She earned that respect and completely understand the "Better kill all of them" comment some people hate... for some reason... You literally just got caught in a fight between two extraterrestrial races and everyone you were with gets murdered one way or another, you're gonna be spiteful!

As much as I wish they had done a straight up adaptation of the original comic, I loved seeing the partnership between Scar and Lex as a nod to Broken Tusk and Machiko.

I'd honestly love an AVP or Predator movie that features Lex coming back and working with a team of Predators to possibly protect a group of humans
That would be interesting. I probably would've actually loved this movie if they didn't kill Chopper and Celtic in such BS ways and at least given them a few xeno kills. I really dig the snow and temple settings, the addition of the Weyland Yutani corp, as well the xenomorph and predator designs. It's just that one factor that would've made the movie that much better to me.

When they first show her in the film, she's scaling a flat wall of ice. She's in shape. She's there because she's a survival expert (and she also does extreme stuff).

Am i the only one adoring Predator's eyes? I mean they are so human-like.
It gives him a soul, dunno but i could feel things reflected in his eyes when he takes off the mask for her.
When they got outside and saw those upside-down hanging bodies the predator was like "Oh yeah. These are the guys I killed before. Sorry about that."
That predator is one of the gorgeous lookin things I’ve ever laid eyes on.

I'm actually kinda miffed Scar died. The idea of a Predator befriending a human was such an interesting one (perhaps his youth and inexperience makes him a bit more open-minded than his more traditional elders?) and it would have been interesting to show a sequel based off the AvP comics where Lex is accepted into Predator society but faces some prejudice for being a human, with Scar being her loyal companion and partner who even defends her from the other Predators. Maybe even taking on the Predalien side-by-side.

I really like Scar as a character, but I always thought his mask (as in the FX for his face, not his helmet/mask) looked cheap compared to in the original Predator. Something too plastic-y about it, which is weird considering how great the effects for this film are.

It's absolute dogshit looking. I've seen cosplays look better. I almost got up and walked out when this scene happened at the movies. It's atrocious compared to the original Stan Winston Predators. They looked like living breathing real creatures.
It's the mouth (particularly the mandibles) and the eyes that seems off

I love the way scar imitates the bomb btw they follow a rule and that rule is do not kill weak people or sick or young people like kids so they are not that bad exept for the one's who traitored there clan

That's entirely untrue. Predators prefer to hunt challenging preys, so if they discover that the prey they're after aren't worthy of being hunted (like Weyland who was ill at the time) they'll mostly just ignore them. They aren't the most tolerant or patient types though, so annoying them enough while they're working despite having been given mercy would still end up getting you killed.
Imagine being in a group of lion hunters but you're only capable of hunting birds. You're basically the laughing stock of the group for not being able to hunt lions like the rest of them.
Its like the predator was adding his favorite toppings to his pizza at the end

Scar definitely respected Lex and honoured her with the mark...its truly does show that if you can get a predators respect they will follow you, match your speed and even help you
This movie really did capture all the elements of the Alien and Predator series.
If they made a second movie on this with the same actor and kept the mark on her it be insane
There was a sequel but I consider the first one as a better version than it's sequel
