This guy is a genius! Whenever he plays this song live he improvises the solo on the spot. His solos for this song are never the same. He composes in the moment.
Michael Burks was my favorite contemporary guitarist when I was in high school. I bought all of his albums that I could get. It wasn't long ago, but it just seemed like not that many people were playing this kind of improvisational blues for a while. or at least it wasn't reaching an audience, especially with people my age or younger. I really liked Christone Kingfish when I first heard him and kept up with his new releases. then when he came out with his version of Empty Promises I saw a rhino records video for it, and it blew my mind. Such an awesome tribute, he has real integrity and skill. Just an amazing artist.
His playing is unbelievable then his voice just takes him to another level. The line where he sings “ you said you wouldn’t break my heart just like the others!” Incredible delivery and really evokes a lot of emotion. Love it❤️🎸
