One Piece will definitely make you laugh and cry a thousand times over. Glad you’re enjoying it. Would recommend committing to at least Volume 11, it’ll give you a good indication on the story telling and emotional impact to come. Also there’s no need to rush it, we’ve got years of stories still coming there.
I totally get the Spy x Family love. If someone exists that hates Anya I'm pretty sure they don't have a soul.

i love how little by little One pieces is turning Booktubers in manga lovers, and thats the great thing, it start with that master piece and then you can go with anything to Berserk to Fullmetal Alchemist. Manga are amazing and theres from romance to horror so you can chose what you like, so enjoy. PD: One piece as lot of people have said is amazing so please continue, but if you can continue Spy X Family too, in later chapters other interesting characters get introduce and our main family get more develop
Yay! I’m so glad to hear you enjoyed One Piece 😊 it’s a good ride and I’ve been reading it for a number of years as well (although less recently while I’ve been reading other things as well). You may or may not know this from Gavin already, but Eiichiro Oda has been doing more or less all of the creation for One Piece on his own, so there have occasionally been larger breaks between volumes or arcs when he’s had to take a break for health reasons. Also while it’s one of the longest ongoing stories, Eiichiro Oda already knows how it’s going to end and has kept it a closely guarded secret (he has only told one young boy who was fatally ill, so that he would know how the story ends before he passed). It is a very fun story and I hope you continue to enjoy it 😊

You're saying it right at the beginning. My oldest daughter studied Japanese. Her instructor was Japanese. I heard a lot of people correcting others, so I was curious and just asked my oldest. I sent your video to her, and she wanted me to let you know you're saying it correctly.

It is like you were in my head with this video!! I have been wanting to start reading some manga… all three of these titles were on my radar but I just felt wayyy to intimidated! However, after watching this I’m going to go for it!! 🖤🖤
To get cheaper manga you need to look toward boxsets, online, 3 for 2, 3 in 1 and second hand. Never pay retail. It is harder for us in the uk but there are shops like Forbidden Planet, Forbidden Planet International, Worlds Apart and Travelling Man. There are manga tubers in the uk that are able to help with best places to buy. Don’t stress over pronunciation. Finally, loving Alice in Borderland at the moment. As a gamer you may appreciate The Legend of Xelda Legendary Editions. Monster a 9 volume psychological thriller. Another big series popularity wise would be Fullmetal Alchemist. It’s not a huge money commitment compared to the likes of One Piece but it should hit you in the feels.
Definitely some good ways to get them discounted, I think I'll just slowly build up the collection. I know about the bind ups and the deals, but when I was just dipping my toe in I didn't want to commit to too much yet.
Completely understandable. My first manga was Deathnote, like many other people, but whilst I did enjoy it to an extent, I partly wish I wasn’t my introduction to manga. I am looking forward to hearing what you think about the 3 series you chose, later down the line. For obvious reasons I didn’t want to pick up Blood on the Tracks, but was surprised to find that I’m actually “enjoying it.”Oh if you have a kindle/kindle app One Piece is £3.99 a volume. Alternatively, the Shonen Jump app is £2.99 per month and you can read up to 100 chapters a month. If you don’t mind reading digital. One Piece is on there as well.
I’m also just getting into manga because of Gavin and Katie and this is so exciting!

Came here from Gavin's channel. :) Would love to have a read-along for One Piece, the series gets going so much the further along you are. If cost is an issue, there's also a digital version where you just pay 2 pounds/euros/dollars a month I think. Also, if you are thinking about streaming, there a content creator (alexczandr) who started reading One Piece live on his twitch channel and has had a very engaging experience getting his audience's input on the chapters (plus he grew his audience a lot from that, too). :)

I'm so excited for you getting into Manga! I'd say in between reading chunkier books especially, they're a lovely palette cleanser, easy to read quickly but you still get the same moving story telling, character development, etc you get from a novel, just with beautiful imagery and artwork alongside it. Anything by Junji Ito for horror, Parasyte, I am a Hero, Fullmetal Alchemist, or Orange if you want something to pull at your heart strings haha, they're absolutely brilliant :)
I love fairy tail, really recommend that manga and anime. For one piece if you can get your hand on them the omnibus editions are cheaper. You can also get lucky on eBay and they do have the box sets that work out cheaper but it’s a big up front cost.

I've only read the first volume of DeathNote but did really enjoy it. It's the price that puts me off! My local library is pretty small and doesn't have a lot of choice

It's supposed to be "Man-gah" as in "Man" because that's just how japanese goes (or I mean how it's pronounced. Japanese is a more phonetic language than english, so there really is only one way to pronounce things), but I don't think people care, so many people have pronounced it the other way that I think it's become a secondary english pronunciation, like how people say "Ka-Ree-O-key" for Karaoke (instead of "Ka-ra-o-kay") and everyone understand and doesn't correct them. (Or like how people say "Po-Key-Mon" instead of "Po-Kay-Mon" even though it's supposed to be "Po-Kay-Mon")
I'm loving that manga is getting more popular on booktube lol. I've loved manga since I was a young teen. My favorites are Bleach, Blue Exorcist, Black Butler, Xxxholic, Chobits, and I also have a love for Chinese light novels like Heaven Official's Blessing. My daughter really loves Chi's Sweet Home and Spy x Family (the girl and my daughter have the same name lol) and Sailor Moon. I pronounce it manga like m-AH-ng-AH...that's how I was told it was...I've said it like that for almost 20 years lol.
It’s actually pronounced mon-ga; so it’s said right in the video. I love Spy x Family and Sailor Moon and my favorite is Detective Conan.

Manga like not mango, if you want to be accurate to Japanese. The only 'a' sound in Japanese is like in 'father.' That said, I think your natural pronunciation is more common in the UK - feels like pasta vs pasta, not too big a deal, but I'm not Japanese or Italian so take that with a grain of salt.
Don’t rush one piece, just take your own time to enjoy it. It’s the goat for a reason, but no need to feel any rush to catch up.

Keep in mind that what you have read is in the bottom 1% to 10% of all one pieces content what you have read is the worst of the story. It only gets better. It is below advradge by one piece standards.

Manga like mango. If you translate the word in Google Translate, that is how it's pronounced, so that is how I say it. The other way is not sounding too Japanese to me, so I'll trust the translator for this one at least.
I didn't wanna get One Piece because of the amount of volumes it has, but the more I hear about it, the more I'm curious about it. It's expensive for me, though, so it will take time to get the first volumes. I just found them in box sets and I think I will stick to those even though it will be more expensive for me. If I love the first one, I'll have 22 more with the first box set, so that's great!
As for this being something I'd like to see more of, it's entirely up to you. I know many of you feel it's up to the viewers, but we first came to your channel for YOUR content, rather than what WE wanted to see, so I think you should stick to whatever you wanna put out and if anyone is into it, they;ll stick around, but if they're not into manga, they will skip these videos and you can't do a thing about it, so please just make the videos you enjoy without worrying too much about what we think of them. We're here for you and your content, whatever that may be, and if we are not in the mood to watch one of your videos, we can skip it and wait for the next one. It's not a big deal for me because I know I love you.

You pronounce manga wrong. It’s man as in man and woman ga. Not monga. I’m British like you and it annoys me sooooo much when I hear Americans say monga, because that’s wrong!

Some other recs: Cardcaptor Sakura (magical girl) for Shoujo manga that’s targeted towards the female demographic.
Inuyasha for Shounen, manga that’s targeted towards the male demographic.
Spice And Wolf, more grown up.
Sailor Moon - the 90’s anime is SOOOOO much better than the manga, though - Shoujo.
Pokémon, the anime is awesome! That’s probably the biggest fanbase. Then One Piece!
There are One apiece boxsets (so you’ve actually got somewhere to store the books when you’ve finished them)!
I did always pronounce it like you’ve said but then got told I was pronouncing it wrong like that 😂 I think lots of people say it different. The way you’ve said would be the way I’d naturally say it though.
