This week I start by prepping the front end of the VW for the next filming session, then I bolt a supercharger onto the Gomanche and prep the cooling system and the intercooler tubing and finally knock out the bumpers for the Defender.

Digging the new glasses! Looking smoooooooth!
Ian, that fabricated rear bumper is cool looking with the metal end caps welded in place and that trailer hitch, along with the flush backup lights, just set it off! The plasma table is a total game changer and definitely saves a lot of time. Nice job as always and thanks for letting us tag along in the shop!
Thanks 👍
About time the bug got some love I love 4 wheel drives. But I got 44 years in vw. Everything you do is great dig watching you
Dude...working on the Bug just makes me happy!!!!
Evolution metal cutting saw is the best. I have one in my shop and I love it. Cuts perfect angles and 90s.
It would be interesting if you did a show (or two) on all the types of metal stock that you use and what types work best for various applications. Also, where you find it all!
Have you heard about the Vedub ReDub? It’s the newest project from the company that makes the DF Goblin. Looks like it’s going to be sweet.
Your hair looks extra nice today.
Try the 6 in Mikita metal blade Ian. In any proper cordless saw makita dewalt or Milwaukee. Just try it for 5 seconds. It will change your life. No it’s not noisy and it cuts cold. Just try it. I have a fab shop.
Good work my dude
A Bug! Reminds me of my youth! My dad bought one for my mom but she couldn't learn standard so my older brother started using it (I was only 16) and somehow, he managed to get hit twice in a week by people backing out. No major damages, but we collected 500$ from them, bought a scraped bug the same colour but with a supposedly bad engine for 100$, we took the windshield and the other body part that got wrecked, put them on ours the my brother looks at the engine and says "a volks engine never busts!" So we started plunking at it and it started! Since there were parts missing, we figured, might as well keep on stripping it and turned it into almost a Dune-buggy. Still needed to be shortened and have some body built but my brother knew someone who was looking to build a Dune-buggy and he offered us 600$ for it! In the end, we made money. We collected $500 from the insurance, paid 100$ for the parts one but sold it for 600$! Not bad for a couple of summer weeks back in '71! Since my mom still wanted a car, we sold the good one with a $250$ profit, but that went to my dad...;)
A couple years later, me and my other brother bought a home-made Dune-buggy. Damn these machines were fun! And cheap on gas! LOVE THE BUG!
Hi from eastern Canada. I'm a multiple generations jeep wrangler owner over 5 different years ( cj, tj , yj, and 2 Jkus). But recently purchased a utility sxs( I know ou aren't into them) to meet my other needs that he jeep doesn't. It already has a lift, bigger tire, bumpers and winches. I have plans to build a full rack system and a set of doors. I figured $5000 for poly doors, I can make a lot of mistakes to build my own. I have a lot of 2" x 1/4" aluminum flatbar laying around that I plan to make the door frames out of. But the problems is stress cracks. I tried 2 different ways of bending it. Bending it flat with the aid of a wooden buck and a finger brake to aid in the bends and the 2nd fail that I was going to turn the flatbar into angle by using the finger brake to bend the flatbar down the center by working up and down the center a little at a time. Is Annealing the cure or what else can I try to make what I have work?
Annealing it will help yes..it might also be the type of aly you are using
If you was able to build a ultimate recovery vehicle what would it be? I know Dave and Fred build the gladiator, Rory has his truck and Matt’s has his other recovery vehicles. What would you build?
Hey Ian, I'm always learning from you! Great idea for the bumper ends. Thanks again!
I like your overhead lights.
Do those belong to Motor Trend or are they yours, and if they are where can I get a set of my own?
Great show enjoy everything you have done. What ever happened to the yellow CJ you and Jessie built with square tube drive shafts? That was the first time I ever saw the Revolver shackles used!!
must be nice to get paid 3 times for the same project your a smart dude aha, project owner , youtube and motortrend ! nicee
I certainly wouldn't call what I get from CZcams being "paid" pretty sure I have made like 100 bucks on those videos....
@@BigTireGarage I wasn’t meaning to sound like a prick I’ve been a fan and watching you since xtream 4x4 . Now I know …..
With all of the different projects going on at one time, how do you keep up with where you're at and where you left off?
Thanks for sharing. really enjoy watching you work and you explain things so well. I'm really interested in the plasma table and the set up you have there. you probably have shown that in the past but it would be great to see that again. maybe even explain the software and a quick tutorial on how that works
👍
My go to for mounting stuff like your lights is rivets. Use an air powered rivet gun and easy as pie.
Ian, I was watching a video earlier about a jeepspeed build. I am interested in building a Jeepspeed Comanche, do you have recommendations on where to obtain MJ leaf’s of the correct lift?
Are you headed to Matt's off road wrecker games
?Hey! cool stuff! Are you still building that camping tow rig?
Yes I am
@@BigTireGarage I didn’t see a playlist so i asked.
Another great video 👍👍
There are no rear cross member caps on defender. There are caps on the Discos and range rovers.
Where does a guy get the honeycomb lights?
How is the wall mounted electric pressure washer working?
Thanks for another great show, I've probably been watching 20 years now! I do have a question though. When building your rigs, what kind of thought goes into choosing a battery? Like type(AGM, lead/acid, marine, etc? What do you normally choose? Thanks for all the years, you're a hero!
plastic leather is called "pleather" where are you located ?
Great stuff. Any chance you can tell me which wheels are on the defender? Thanks
No sip of whisky. Must be early in the day when you made the video. Cheers.
👍🏽🇺🇸👍🏽 awesome as always
gday legend, i havent worked out yet if thats og defender diffs/ hubs/ pcd, if it is, can we please have the details re those nice wheels its shod in please
It sits on a Jeep JK frame
@@BigTireGarage thanks for getting back. Yeah I just figured that out, much like the way legend motor co are doing it. Not my jam. But at least the aftermarket is big.
great video thank
Long time follower and student of yours through YT! lol what tool or machine would you consider underrated and also which tool/machine do you not see in other shops that you like to use? Awesome work as always IAN!
I like how far you have gotten on your beetle bug! Excited to see it finished.
Just starting to get back into welding. My question is what would you recommend for a welder that would be good to use for around the farm and also to help replace body panels on a project that I’m just starting. By the way keep the content coming it’s great
Love the Gomanche build, it’s a very unique take on a chassis that has been done a lot.
I have a jku rubicon that is a daily driver / back up wheeler to my 1 ton Cherokee. It is in need of ball joints and I was looking at the American Iron ball joint deletes because the Jeep does see regular off-road abuse and I like the idea of being able to rebuild them. What are your thoughts on using ball joint deletes on a daily driver type vehicle. They advertise them with a 2 year 30,000 mile warranty so it seems like they would be suitable for a decent amount of street use.
Thanks, and Love the show!
Do you have a project you are scared to start because it may be too hard?
Any thoughts on how to keep a.tf999 built tranny with manual valve bank and ext cooler and fan from shuttering
What about the tail lights on the Defender?
They come off the body like a jeep
Oh what's the Tesla drive for?
Just noticed that also
Shhh. That’s a secret.
I’m pretty sure he talked about that in another video. He’s gonna put it in a project but I don’t remember if he said what he wanted to put it in
