From a flashback outside of Furioso's eariler swordfight with Vermillion, a flashback in Vermillion's life showed that Dr. Tarkovsky used to work for Gran Kingdom. I don't know how many years ago it happened, but Vermillion was fighting against Nene's forces before joining the White Brigade.
This episode shows Furioso making a new sword to best Rogi's but Vermillion prove him wrong. Vermillion also told him how he meet Dr. Tarkovsky and join White Brigade. Also a flashback with Nene when he was alive.
