  • In this video I show how I frame out the van using furring strips. These furring strips provide a way to to attach my shiplap wall and ceiling boards. You want to make sure these furring strips are super secure so they don't squeak or rattle and last the life of the van. I show you exactly how to determine location and how to attach the furring strips.

    This was super helpful for me. Thank you for walking us through they process in perfect detail. I was not going to use furring strips because it seemed easy to attach the plywood walls to the metal interior van body. But this does seem to frame everything nicely. Thank you again!

    • @OurThrivingLife
      @OurThrivingLife  Před 3 dny

      We make them about 4” wide so that we have plenty of room to screw the ceiling into the furring strips without hitting the metal ribs of the van.

  • @StephenandAndie
    @StephenandAndie Před rokem

    Really informative and helpful video! Some questions, if you don’t mind: Are you using 1/4” rivnuts, and what size are the holes (or what size do they need to be)? And what type of fastener are you putting into the rivnuts? You mentioned drilling out factory holes so the rivnut would fit - I’m curious why not get rivnuts that fit that hole size without having to enlarge them? We’re working on our 2014 Sprinter, and I *think* the factory holes we’ve got are 5/16” for the most part, with some at 1/4.” Trying to determine exactly which rivnuts, fasteners, etc. we need to proceed. Thank you!!!

    • @OurThrivingLife
      @OurThrivingLife  Před rokem +2

      We use 1/4-20 stainless steel rivnuts and a 23/64 drill bit to bore out the hole. The screws we use are 1/4-20 stainless steel flathead screws, 1-1/2” long. The center hole in 2019+ Sprinters is smaller than the rivnut, so definitely needs to be bored out.

    • @OurThrivingLife
      @OurThrivingLife  Před 9 měsĂci +1

      We normally do Shiplap on the walls. If you’re doing panel walls I’d cover them in a fabric like Duramax Marathon rather than carpet.

  • @Lmt1wp

    What about rust from moisture and shavings formed; left to sit up inside the ribs by “widening” all those holes?

    • @OurThrivingLife
      @OurThrivingLife  Před 4 dny +1

      No way around drilling holes in a van. You vacuum up the shavings and primer the holes. You can also put a couple magnets around the hole as you are drilling to attract the shavings.

    • @OurThrivingLife
      @OurThrivingLife  Před 2 lety

  • @AJourneyOfYourSoul
    @AJourneyOfYourSoul Před 2 lety +2

    Since you used adhesive, why not just use self drilling screws? Rivnuts are meant for easy on/off.

    • @OurThrivingLife
      @OurThrivingLife  Před 2 lety +1

      You could definitely use screws. I use rivnuts for the added strength.

    • @AJourneyOfYourSoul
      @AJourneyOfYourSoul Před 2 lety +2

      @@OurThrivingLife I was also thinking with the rivnuts you would be able to put the “studs” on and off until the whole van was framed, looks good etc…..and then pull everything off to glue it.
      The more I think about it, the rivnuts give you lots of options and are definitely stronger like you say.
      A little more cost and time, but for a personal build, probably worth it.

    Too heavy and too much work. Use original sprinter head liner. Built in sound deadening and insulation. Even better if you insulate above the headliner. Mines been this way for years in the OZ outback
