  • Is the 997.2 a future classic? Is it the best daily driver for the money? Is it the best balance between modern and analog? In this video, I go through my 2011 997.2 Porsche 911 Carrera 4S. I talk about the current prices, lights, interior, wheels and tires, headroom, etc. I then take it for a drive so you can get a driving impression. Please comment below on what your thoughts are on the 997.2s. Do you like them, hate them, or just think they are ok? All opinions are welcome. Thanks for watching and please check out my other Porsche videos

I currently have a 997.2 4S Cabrio. 28k miles of which I put 15k. By far my favorite Porsche of several that I have owned. For that matter, it is the best sports car that I’ve owned. I also was nervous about the PDK. Always had manual. The PDK is awesome. I do wish that I had the paddle shifts. Last year, I almost went crazy and considered selling and “upgrading” to a 992. After much thought, looks, value , research etc. I’ve decided to keep it. The 997.2 S/4S will be a 993 964 type porsche classic. Cheers!

Definitely the ultimate classic 911 sweet spot. Especially the 2011 year with the refined PDK. Like the aero kit, especially the front grill. Tons of power matched with reliability. Best of all, you drive it so you can truly enjoy it! 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👍🏼.
I purchased an 2004 CS4 cab with 100,000 miles five years ago when I retired, and since I’ve added another 37,000 miles. I’m planning on figuring out my options at 200,000 miles. It drives fantastic with the stock set up. We are probably both members in PCA Region 8, so hope to meet you sooner or later. I’m not the most active member since I love to cycle on weekends. Best! 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👍🏼

People buy Porsches for various reasons. Some people buy Porsches for prestige, some buy Porsches for their speed, some buy Porsches for their looks, but if you’re looking for a true, seat of your pants, sports car driving experience, I believe the 997.2 is the ultimate Porsche.
There’s no question that Porsche improves their cars with each model year, but with the 991 Porsche changed the 911 forever, and for the pure race car driving experience, not for the better. I say that for two obvious reasons: first, the 991 abandoned hydraulic steering for electric steering resulting in an insulated road feel through the steering wheel. Likewise, the 991 is longer, wider and heavier than the 997, again adding additional separation between the driver and the road. Additionally, the 997 is the last “pure” Porsche, as the 991 was developed under the umbrella of Volkswagon. So, if a true race car driving experience is your main reason for buying a Porsche, I am firmly in the camp that believes the 997 generation is the way to go.
I have owned two 997’s. I had a 2007 997.1 Carrera 4 which I absolutely loved. I tracked that car and had a ball watching Corvettes in my run group spin out as they tried to keep up with me through the turns. I recently purchased a 2009 997.2 Carrera 4S Cabriolet and I love the newer engine and the upgraded center dash. Driving these cars is an absolute driving pleasure, sure to bring a wide smile to your face. I honestly don’t think you could go wrong with either 997 version (IMS bearing concerns aside).
As far as the future value is concerned, for those of us who prefer a naturally aspirated engine, these cars should definitely appreciate as the 991.2 started Porsche’s journey on the turbo-only road.
So that’s my humble 2 cents on the subject. I hope this is helpful to some potential buyers.

The big issue I'm facing on 997.2 is that you have a 3% higher interest rate to buy one because it is prior to 2013. It's either cash or a 9% interest rate. I don't particularly want to pay cash. So, I might be forced into a modern model simply for that reason. Also explains why prices tend to drop off prior to 2013 because people don't want to or can't get loans for them.

No doubt 997.2 is a terrific 911, probably my choice among the water-cooled cars. 991/992 got a bit large. But the 964 and 993 are both VERY daily drivable, and the 964 had the original 911 silhouette and mechanical feel. They really are usable and historic at the same time. The 3.2s are also great cars, but the comfort level and ergonomics are definitely of a past era.

The one thing that has me down about the turbo is the lack of any character from the exhaust.
