If you've been watching my channel for any length of time, you have probably seen one of my Unofficial Windows Versions videos. Have you ever wanted to know how some of these versions are created? Well in today's video, I'll be showcasing a free program called nLite. This tool allows you to modify a Windows XP ISO image by adding tweaks and themes, and removing unwanted components.

Cool, but I have an idea for your next video Michael MJD.
I bet it’ll be called “Windows XP Michael MJD Edition”
I only found this channel because it is tech related, I subscribed a while ago because it's my name is Michael and my initials are MJD

Nope, it's mjdXP
Perfect
@@TheMatto58 nice. This person was and always will be, in the past so please. Let's keep updating them on things in the future
Ah, yes, I've used this software before. I was working on my own unofficial version called Windows 1992, a modification of Windows XP that makes it look more like Windows 3.1. I never got very far into it, though.
@40two I have, and it's going well! As a matter of fact, I'll probably be releasing an unfinished build of it soon, as well as making a Discord server for people interested in development.

After you make the switch to Linux, it's incredible to notice the basic differences between how Windows and Linux work. On Windows, all the tools are made on top of the primary goal of "removing stuff" or "undoing what Windows had done". They lock everything up inside CAB files etc etc Whereas on Linux it's all done on the concept of "adding on top of a blank canvas", and everything is transparent, everything is a file, you don't need 3rd party apps to do changes to the system. Windows kept going all those years on the "difficult" path, just for not admitting that Linux worked better, specially with drivers, hardware recognition and installing at boot time directly from the kernel, pretty impressive.
What a throwback to 2006 these videos are... I used to either make my "own" Windows XP ISOs or use something else like TinyXP or even Tiny2003. It mainly just caused dependency issues.
Tiny7 too... it's pretty cool in the sense that it is able to work like Linux (boot directly from USB without the need of installing it) but it makes my Radeon GPU overheats. For Intel graphics people, must be perfect because they don't need a fan. And there's also Hirens Boot DVD, very useful running from USB.
i think we've reached peak unofficial window version saturation with this video. now we can make our own windows within windows.
I used this back in the day. It came in handy to make a recovery CD that already had the drivers pre-installed, all the settings set, and all I had to do was just go. Especially since I purchased XP pre-SP2, so it was great to have a (mostly) patched XP disc ready to go.
And i thought verified comments would get the most likes
Very interesting program. I'd love to see a follow-up installation of the customized version of XP.
yeah same here
When i install my copy it says
The file viaide.sys is corrupted.
Press any key to continue.
Then it restarts the pc
Finally a good tutorial on how to do this! Very good tutorial, and nice and easy to follow. 😁
Thank you! I always wanted to make my very own version of Windows XP and finally I can make it!
Very useful guide, Michael! Followed it to make an ISO with the unofficial SP4 slipstreamed. Total size is 998MB lol
Wow, this looks amazing, gotta try it out now! :)
I need this! Thanks a lot mjd! You are the best!
Some DIY Windows!
Cool video and I searched forever on youtube for how to make your own Windows XP version

Hey, new suscriptor here! I do really like the way you communicate, you have such a peaceful voice and your content is really interesting. Thanks CZcams for the recommendation.
@Michael MJD can you make a video showing the one for NTLite?
yeah true...
it is way easier but more complex in NTLite
NTLite is designed for Windows Vista and later

Do you still need to activate it after customizing it? Normal unactivated XP only works for 30days :(
Yr videos are gold
im gonna use this thanks!
I wish there was a windows 7 editor of this. Wow, such a detailed tool
There is, it is called ntLite. But it cost money ($45.17 USD or €40/year using home license).
i just used those software years ago it helps me install those os on my smaller lappytopy
how do i give it preinstalled programs and images, music and other stuff
I've made some OSes using nLite:

Hi.. Does windows XP sp4 run on ( ahci) mode?
Thanks, now I made doors
GREAT VIDEO I MUST SAY
amazing video it helps
Glad to hear it helped you make a custom version! Thanks for watching the video
Great. That's what I want to make my own Windows XP modification!
Does an unofficial SP5 exist for Windows XP?
How can you fully remove the pagefile with Nlite?
This is great I could have used this years ago when I worked as a tech. Is there any sofware that will let you do what this tool does but create a live Windows CD instead?
nlite works great
This is Soo cool
now i can make windows ctac 2
Can you use this to make a version of XP that runs on modern hardware and can run modern programs and games like Windows 10 can? While also keeping backwards compatibility that XP would have for older things?
you can even make it not to check for the minimum free disk space and RAM during the installation :)
Cool video
thank you very much
I would definitely like to see what this XP edition looks like now that you've created it.
after that can i format my modern laptop to windows xp ? in have lenovo G50
Thanks for the tutorial! But where the ISO file that i created is? I didn't found it.
How do you slipstream a theme using NLite? For example, how would you add and configure the Zune theme for Windows XP to be automatically installed and set as the default theme? Please make a video explaining that.
I think you'd have to manually set it in the $OEM$\$$ folder which is a mirror of the root where windows and all the other files are stored.
WAIT THIS IS THE OFFICIAL TESLA ACCOUNT
for me, it says symc8xx is corrupted when i start the setup. any fix?
excuse me, can app this run on windows 8.1? Because Im try run it it some to install net framework Not supported Windows 8.1
I love this software. I made a Service Pack 4 XP iso with all Important Dell D600 drivers (ATI Mobility Radeon 9000, Dell and Intel Wireless cards, Broadcom LAN, and Sigmatel Audio). The only problem is that it is about 1.4GB in size! XD
That should fit on an 8cm DVD.
I know this is very late, but if you add SATA drivers, you should be able to boot off a USB image.
cool video keep it up
Guess i'll make my own easy-install with sufficient programs thing for my VMs!
I need to try this
So you can enter a product key but does this program actually activate the OS as well?
It doesn't, unless you use a VLK XP ISO.
i used it to integrate RAID disk drivers so i can install windows xp SP3 on my old laptop :) THX!
Ah the memories with nlite...
It turns out you can integrate SP3 with a regular RTM ISO, I tried nLite earlier and it worked.
Can we change the system's logo with nLite? Ya know, change the bootscreen, the winver banner, so on and so forth..
@Skytrace Ling OFFICIAL But how can we do that to the ISO?
@Skytrace Ling OFFICIAL Makes sense.
Thanks my guy.
@Skytrace Ling OFFICIAL Or use other third-parody software
Actually you could change the boot screen by using this app called issopack 5. I used it to integrate Windows Vista bootscreen and login screen. You can also choose the Windows 7 bootscreen and login screen too. But do this work on a host PC running Windows XP (because I don't think issopack will run on 7, 8 or 10.)
HackBGRT!
so my boot cd.iso image is not working im missing files that did not come with it what do i do know i dont want to get a viruse searching online
Thanks when I make my own can u take a review of it
Is there any way to make this so that it never crashes during installation/setup process?
I really want to have an XP/Win 7 dual boot, but last attempt at this I got a damned BSOD and then I had to 'repair' Win 7 files after booting back into Win 7. Seriously, why. Just, WHY.
Can you copy a OEM Dell disk of XP since it is pre activated?
can i slipstream the "unofficial sp4" and the POSReady Patches until 2019 Patches into an ISO? Maybe download the POSReady Patches with WSUS Offline? anyone tried this out?
How can I add software to the install?
Please make an basic NT lite tutorial for 7 and 8-8.1
I could use it to make Windows XP Education Edition.
Yea
Don't
Fuck no pls
I accually made it myself
Put it in my school pls
I'd like to use Nlite to slipstream just the SATA drivers to XP so that I can install it on my laptop.
Unfortunately, the sata drivers available from HP are provided as an executable. I can open the exe in WinRar but there's tons of files on it. For example, should I copy all the exe's inf, cat, sys and oem files into it's own folder and then point nlite to insert that folder?
I know this is a little late, but YES! You can do that. Just point Nlite at the folder & it will detect what it needs.
But how do I add software to the iso ?
Can we completely replace internet explorer and Microsoft edge with Chrome or Firefox?
i'm using the NLite with Windows XP... but i have 1 BIG Question: why i can't add the audio driver?
the Windows XP accepts the driver, when i install it... but no with with NLite\Windows XP setup... why?
it's the only driver that is 'kill' me
Well there is just a problem. I dont know which to use the nLite. beacouse it says nlite for windows xp only
NTLIte is other for windows 10 and etc.
Can I use a disk instead of a iso
how do I make it run a installer on first boot
I'm thinking about making a Nickelodeon version, but with NOSTALGIC material!
Could you PLEASE do a video with nLite. Where you can add Installers, programs, games and the IMPORTANT Switches needed for the installation hands free. Cause I made one years ago and tried to add Photoshop 7 with Serial I owned. Plus Reshack etc and I MISSED at the switches that do the 'next' 'accept' automatically. I think there is a file you have to make it into a .Cab? It has been awhile. THIS video would get you many happy people including me! Plus the sources for the installers into the .cab? Been awhile as you can tell.
Thhhhankz
omfg thanks
Can you use win pos reddy 2009
Hi.. I like ur voice it attract me to continue ur video till end.. Also ur teaching... By the way.. Does windows XP sp4 ...run on ( ahci) mode?... If not.. So many possibilities...
What will happen if you modify an already modified Windows XP iso?
Finally I can make a lite version of windows 2000
I am gonna try an eventually make the first bootable ProgressbarOS! (Progressbar XB)
I made one, but it gets stuck at the 'registering components', the windows is 32 bit
Can you add software in it
You should make a video about Steam on Windows XP.
Is there a way you can add programs?
I wonder which program you're interested in adding, hmmm
Please show me how to use ntlite
Are there's a way to make Windows 8.1/10 lite but still can get update from Windows Update
Last time i making Windows 8.1 lite and updated it using Windows Update and ended with automatic repair
As far as I know, it depends on what you change or remove. I would integrate updates before making any modifications anyways, as updates can revert any modifications you make.
u didn't mention the version used in this vid might b a licensed version @Michael MJD
Install it because we want to actually see how amazing it is like a follow up install
how do i change a walcome screen with this pls help
you can't
Can someone give link to Windows XP Home Edition files?
Not to ISO files. Just to files from XP CD.
I'm going to have to make one for my IBM X41 tablet since Linux will be ending 32bit support any day now.
Make a review of your own unofficial windows version, plz.
Works in Windows 2000?
Win2k is Best Windows. Seriously though, for older machines where you want a 32 bit Win OS and just don't have a whole lot of memory and just need to run some more modern basic apps (LibreOffice, Lazarus, Python, etc.), Win2k is awesome. Just surf smartly and you should be ok. I've got an old Dell Latitude CPi that still runs pretty good considering it's age (late 90's laptop). Only caveat is, you've got to install all the official Service Packs plus the unofficial rollup pack in order to get decent performance and stability. I think the only driver I had to track down was for the Netgear PCMCIA wifi card that I use with it. 2k found everything else and set it up perfectly.
@@leon7612 ReactOS needs 1024 MB of RAM to run smooth
@@ITAC85 Yeah, ReactOS is garbage, I don't even know why so many people talk about it (plus, it's unfinished for 10 years) The most revolutionary thing that happened in computers the last 10 years is Puppy Linux. Ok, I admit that it doesn't look fancy and it's not the prettier out there, but it could be used as a base for building awesome stuff on top of it. A full OS that don't need drivers and run from memory using less than 128 MB of RAM, pretty impressive. If they could figure out a way to run Windows apps natively there (or including Wine pre-installed) there would be definitely a lot of demand for it. Plus, some Puppy's support 64 bit these days.
Yes. For others wondering, NLite won’t work with Windows 95, 98, Me, NT 3.1, NT 3.5, NT 3.51, NT 4.0, Vista, 7, 8, 8.1, or 10. To customize Vista, use vLite. To customize 7+, use ntLite.
I could create something like “Windows Me NT Edition”
It would pretty much be Win2k but with Windows Me features
Logan Jones You can not add features using this
No I mean install the updated Windows apps such as Internet Explorer 5.5, WMP 7, etc
yes very useful because i'll be using my Netbook mostly for playing videos off an sd card or usb or i'll be playing 1 game on it... FATE The Traitor Soul
6:43 Tablet PC? Unlike 7 and later, regular XP has no touch support, you needed a dedicated version for that (Windows XP Tablet PC Edition), so checking or unchecking that option is not going to make any difference. You do not risk accidentally losing touch support because it's not there in the first place!. Nice to see this program can safely and adequately patch the Tablet Pc Edition too, though.
Nice
I did a Windows XP that looks a little like whistler
