Best Phone for this price in the last 7 years! I had many different brands & models Samsung A53, pocophone F1, LGG8s, etc etc etc all midrange budget phones max price €400 but this Motorola Moto G84 5G has all functionality most users need. Don't spend to much time at all negative responses like they should have put a better chipset in it and better camera comments... Those people expect to find the perfect Phone for 250,- which does not exist. There are always consessions to be made when producing a smartphone at the budget level. Need a better camera, look further. Need a faster Phone, look further. For most people this Phone provides a very fast experience and great pictures in general so What's the point of spending more money for things you generally don't use or need in daily life? Only downside is Moto's upgrade policy, it should be at least two os upgrades that is a truely a negative point of the policy of this company. I didn't like my Samsung A53, it was far to slow, almost can't handle normal every day usage of different apps at the same time, far to slow, bad processor and this Moto G84 5G is noticably faster and better user experience in the same price range so Motorola does not seem to produce phones for students or kids but does an excellent job at the midrange and lowrange segment. Pay for what you need is my slogan.
Holy crap man, I'm a stingy bastard who's needing to get another refurbished sub-$300 AUD phone. After all research, I was 10 seconds away from finally buying a refurbished Oppo X5 Lite on eBay when I saw a sponsored Moto G84 listing for less. Checked out your review and it craps all over the Oppo! I'm sold! Getting the G84 now!
@@ozziekhoo Yeh, got it. I'm pretty happy so far. I was on Oppo R11s for a long time and I still love that phone (it has a fantastic camera), but it's old and stopped working with more and more apps. It's a bit thicker than my old Oppo, but everything else working great. My lastest YT Short (about the banana) is done with the Moto G84, all other vids previous to that were on the Oppo.
Having just purchased the Moto Edge 30 Neo because I wanted a 6" smaller phone this one is great value too. Apart from the size and larger battery and increased standard mem 256G/12G vs 128/8G they are pretty much the same phone. Both great. I am well impressed with mine and the battery usage is frugal in the extreme. Great signal strength is also better than my previous Samsung A40. Its just works well enough said. :-)
I have never used a Samsung phone in my life, almost bought Samsung A34. Can you please tell me if the Moto Edge 40 Neo is worth buying over a Samsung phone? I had a Moto G3 earlier which I loved for its clean UI. I'm not sure about Samsung's One UI and I feel I may get overwhelmed by it.

Bought this phone as an upgrade from the Moto G 5G plus that was purchased in June 2021, June 2024 I've upgraded and installed Android 14 its mint, battery life is awesome nicer to hold in the hand , feels premium , camera seems decent too. Excellent bang for buck, cost $248 on an eBay plus special , Happy days! :) Excellent review mate @Tech Spurt !
I had an Xiaomi redmi Note 10S and i really liked it and I just recently bought a Moto G84 5G and all i can say is, its absolutely amazing (i like it more than my Redmi note 10S) love everything about it. The display is incredible, its fast, its just a really incredible phone! 💯🔥
Just bought this and am very happy with it. I've been a Samsung user for over 10 years, but decided i didn't want to go on a plan or use savings for the price point of another decent Samsung, and I'm not at all disappointed with the transition to the very affordable Moto g84!

I've seen a friend's latest & greatest Samsung camera in action, and it isn't as fancy as that, however, it's a LOT better than my 3 year old Samsung🤣 I take a lot of pics and I'm very satisfied with the moto g84 cam. The one thing that has taken a little adjusting too, is that I liked just going to Samsung gallery to find pics and do a basic edit - but google pics is the default for this phone. Not that the play store is short of good editing apps either, so🤷

Im a sony fan when it comes to phones, The Xperia 10 V is a nice midground with the typical sony stuff i expect (short 21:9, no notch, 80% battery limiter ect) now the sony is a £400 phone and i feel that is fine for the price point, it could be better, but i feel they want to keep it around that area. yet this thing at £250 with the same chip, and a charger, As a package i think this is amazingly solid, I think the cameras are slightly better on the sony but its got most the important things you expect, headphone jack, stereo speakers, SD Slot & dual sim, yet they managed to put 256GB of storage and 12GB ram, they kinda didnt have to, but im glad they did it makes a statement. I brought one just for fun really, if you have a use case for a phone as a tool then this might be a popular option.

It took just about a week to humiliate Nokia G42 (Pink) which Spurt reviewed here. Moto G84 wins hands down in all possible ways: better screen, cameras, sound, chip, colour, vegan leather, 33W charger in the box, Full HD+ OLED screen instead of a 720p LCD screen with poor visibility outdoors on Nokia. But it's fair to say that Motorola now beats any other brand now with their new budget and midpriced phones.
As always - the hardware is pretty good. However, soon after getting this phone, it was practically FORCING me to update Android, with no option of turning these update prompts off. Tech companies blackmail you into updating your phone, by threatening you saying your phone isn't secure. However, the updates are really only there for one reason - to slow your phone down and overload its processing capability, so you buy a new one in 2.5 years time. Instead of anti-virus software, we need anti-update software to stop tech companies doing this.

Watching this on my Moto.g7 power which is still going strong but will prob update to this. Samsung A34 seems good too, but not sure its worth paying an extra £150 (for 256 GB model) just for slightly better battery life and two more years of Android uodates. Moto always gives a lovely intuitive interface with clean android and no bloatware.
Moto needs to launch a G84 S version with snapdragon 782g and sony imx 766 camera sensor along with 13 mp ultrawide. This would be the perfect midranger from moto.
There is no need for that unless you look for gaming or using heavy apps that require high performance. If you just play casually, you will be able to play most of the games, like you've seen CoD, Free Fire, Pokemon GO.. Except Genshin Impact and similar where you can still play it but in low graphics. I prefer better user experience and long battery life as well as a good screen, and Motorola is perfect with their MyUX, one of the cleanest almost close to pure android stock. If you look for a good camera quality only, then yes this is not the best phone for that, I agree with you there. Though GCam always improves the quality

Brought this phone yesterday, paid £179 new, for the price it's a great little phone. I've had way more expensive phones that don't have the same specs as this phone does. Definitely recommend if you just want a phone to buy n not have to pay a contract
That is the exact same situation I was until I got this Motorola a few days ago. I come from two Xiaomis, last one being Mi 9T and I was so tired of MiUi. I know what type of phone I want, and I knew what I was going to get. User experience is miles better thanks to the almost pure android stock MyUX, really fluid, no bloatware (maybe one game and fb app but you can easily uninstall them) impressively lightweight, long battery life (really important for me) thanks to this efficient mid-range CPU, and it stays cool to the touch no matter if you are gaming for hours, as you watched in this video, it can run most of the demanding games on good graphics quality with the few exceptions like genshin impact, but doesnt mean is unplayable in lower graphics though I only tried Pokémon GO which runs it with zero problems at 120Hz. pOLED display is one of it's best points along with it's Dolby Atmos speakers. It has headphone jack (one of the things i use the most on a phone) and even Radio FM. Camera is nothing special, just acceptable. Now that I have this phone I can assure that this video is very accurate. If you don't look for ultra high graphics with high refresh rate in demanding games or a top camera quality, I would recommend you get this phone. User experience is way better than MiUI
I hope Nokia makes a comeback to release affordable mid-range quality down to low-end really affordable phones out there. IMHO, Nokia is a true blue OG best durable phone brand that became known in the early 2000s. 😇
I said it before and ill say it again, if shoddy OS updates support is the trade off for the great price/quality ratio Motorola offers, then I'm ALL for it. I have the Moto Edge 2022 and I'm still on Android 12 😂 My phone still hasnt caught on fire or self destructed because it's not running the latest OS update lol it's still working as intended😂 Go Moto!
I never really understood the rush to be upto date with the latest Android version either. For anyone that is planning to keep the phone for long. 5 years or more, it will eventually get capped at provided update limitation and you will eventually have to live with that version till the phone dies. It makes no difference to an average user. The apps all still get updates on all the older androids.
Just ordered this today after looking at the review! As a fellow samsung phone user. This phone is so gorgeous. I'm hoping it works while gaming on the go! I've noticed with my previous samsung phones i've had issues with the battery so i'm going to give this brand a try!

First I bought the Samsung A34. Now I got the G84 because it is much slimmer and lighter, a much better "summer phone" :)) The A34 is a brick in your pocket.

The A34 has been a great phone so far, it's still my main phone and I think it's the better phone between these two, but the Moto G84 is very close behind, maybe the camera is not the best, but if you know a little about photography and how to use light and don't expect all photos to be perfect without a bit of smart framing.. it can be really fun to use. I'm not a heavy user, just the usual - a few calls, some browsing, some social media, almost no games or very light gaming, photos... for this, both are good phones. The Ax5 series may actually not be as good as the Ax4 generation... the Mediatek Dimensity chip they used in the A34 is actually a great choice, presumably a lot better, more efficient that Samsung's proprietary Exynos (which they now use in the Ax5 phones). Personally, I would go any "lower" than the A3x.. models (A34, A35..) Maybe the A25 is a truly budget model and probably cutting too many corners... I don't know. If you can choose, give the A34 a try, you'll like it. Battery lasts forever with light use, camera is great for me, I've taken some wow snapshots, good sound, just as snappy and responsive as almost a year ago...

I've had this G84 phone for over 6 months & thes es the 1st phone ive owned that has irregular msg sending times... Sometimes it decides to only deliver a msg the following day.. its mega frustrating.. Sometimes the refresh is sluggish/ delayed. Basic display, sound output, battery & sound performance is still good as.
I should have waited more before getting my A34... that g84 is stunning, and way better. Just the miserable update situation is the only downfall. Thanks for the review
Not really missing out on anything with this phone with the screen a brand new cutting edge p-OLED design which sets it apart from AMOLED and LCD screens. The large amount of ram certainly helps the chipsets perform above expectations and it's always nice to have stereo speakers and a headphone jack and NFC. A great phone for a very low price with the inclusion of the charging brick and case welcome additions. It's under $300 AU at the moment. 😎🇦🇺👍

This one is lighter, has radio, a headphone jack, double the memory & storage, and desktop connectivity. The A34 is larger, faster, and has better battery life.

No Samsung usually does things right, the A34 is a good mid-range phone and the UI is quite easy to get used to, with many customisable options.

I said it before and ill say it again, if shoddy OS updates support is the trade off for the great price/quality ratio Motorola offers, then I'm ALL for it.

My phone still hasnt caught on fire or self destructed because it's not running the latest OS update lol it's still working as intended😂

I never really understood the rush to be upto date with the latest Android version either. For anyone that is planning to keep the phone for long. 5 years or more, it will eventually get capped at provided update limitation and you will eventually have to live with that version till the phone dies. It makes no difference to an average user. The apps all still get updates on all the older androids.

Hi , great review. Does this have 12GB of ram? Also what r the nighttime pictures like? I have the G32 which is great but nighttime pictures are noisy and weak.. is this better?

First I bought the Samsung A34. Now I got the G84 because it is much slimmer and lighter, a much better "summer phone" :)) The A34 is a brick in your pocket.
You still prefer it ? I have A25 but not sure …

The A34 has been a great phone so far, it's still my main phone and I think it's the better phone between these two, but the Moto G84 is very close behind, maybe the camera is not the best, but if you know a little about photography and how to use light and don't expect all photos to be perfect without a bit of smart framing.. it can be really fun to use.
I'm not a heavy user, just the usual - a few calls, some browsing, some social media, almost no games or very light gaming, photos... for this, both are good phones.
The Ax5 series may actually not be as good as the Ax4 generation... the Mediatek Dimensity chip they used in the A34 is actually a great choice, presumably a lot better, more efficient that Samsung's proprietary Exynos (which they now use in the Ax5 phones).
Personally, I would go any "lower" than the A3x.. models (A34, A35..) Maybe the A25 is a truly budget model and probably cutting too many corners... I don't know.
If you can choose, give the A34 a try, you'll like it. Battery lasts forever with light use, camera is great for me, I've taken some wow snapshots, good sound, just as snappy and responsive as almost a year ago...
Great video! A quick question, between the Motorola G84 5g and the Samsung A34 5g which one wold be better suited for gaming? Games like Genshin or Star Rail for example.

I've had this G84 phone for over 6 months & thes es the 1st phone ive owned that has irregular msg sending times... Sometimes it decides to only deliver a msg the following day.. its mega frustrating..
Sometimes the refresh is sluggish/ delayed.
Basic display, sound output, battery & sound performance is still good as.

Not really missing out on anything with this phone with the screen a brand new cutting edge p-OLED design which sets it apart from AMOLED and LCD screens.
The large amount of ram certainly helps the chipsets perform above expectations and it's always nice to have stereo speakers and a headphone jack and NFC.
A great phone for a very low price with the inclusion of the charging brick and case welcome additions.
It's under $300 AU at the moment.
