Truth that companies cannot be moral if profits don’t align. If moral and profits then moral. If not moral and profits then not moral. You're using the wrong verbiage. Virtue signalling is claiming to have righteous morals that is above every one elses.
How are they virtue signalling when they pander to all demographics? They'll sell Juneteenth merch and will have a patriotic collection trickling out to stores for July 4th soon after that.
They're loyal to none but the Almighty dollar.

@@danielmcdermott3558 they're just trying to sell what they think will sell, and every store like this tries to cater to a wide audience. Ultimately, some of these items aren't really selling and are causing controversy, so there's no reason to keep them on the shelves. @@dquan731I feel like that last sentence is a flawed way of thinking. Target is minding the business that pays them, similarly as you demand the commenter do. & apparently pride doesn’t pay. When demand diminishes, so does product. I remember learning that in elementary, idk if you do. It’s pointless for retailers to hold on to, let alone try to sell inventory they know won’t. Bad business 101. & I feel if that last sentence was the case, more topics of discussion would come up, for example: why don’t Target and other major retailers have exotic ingredients & foods for prominent but still minority communities? There are many Asian’s and Hispanic’s in my area, if they want something they normally get from their home country, they have to go out of their way to a local bazaar or market. But then what happens to those local markets? I know it’s not a perfect comparison, pride is only in stores for a month, meanwhile food is year round. But questioning “it’s cool for stores to carry stuff you like but not stuff other people like” is a broad question that opens up to broader topics. Yes, in a perfect world we’d have anything anyone could ever want just a short drive a way, but it’s not, and frankly shouldn’t be. It’s good to have those smaller retailers. So what Target doesn’t carry your rainbow mugs this year? If you’re in need of pride merch that badly, there are other options, local boutiques, mom & pops, even online Etsy shops. I’m sure at least 1 is selling that rainbow merch you or the one you’re advocating for want, plus it would be a better option to buy from one of them than a conglomerate like Target.

I think it’s not wise for companies to be apart of controversial topics. Pride month is one of those. Not that they can’t sell the products but I think last year we saw what happened when a company takes a political stance on divisive issues. We saw the Same thing happened to other companies like Chikfila and Cracker Barrel. The companies have the right to make a stance but they will have to understand that it will come with back lash. I know for myself I hadn’t shopped at target all year bc of their pride line. Mind you I still shopped at Walmart and Bath and Body Works, two other companies that sold merchandise for Pride month. The difference is how they handled the issue and what they sold. To put the blame on the customer is never the professional response and to push a controversial ideology right when you walk in is not ideal either. People go to stores to shop and they shouldn’t feel worried they may be indoctrinated just by walking in. You can’t after all have a reputation of being a certain type of store that is family oriented and then all of sudden be ok with advertising things that brings division to the world.

Having contact with their lowest tier employees 'team members' means I get to learn things during 'casual talks'. They are still pushing DEI training as mandatory and it isn't just a Golden Rule type training.
They've also seen their hours cut as bad if not worse than in 2019. (Those that are still there this long due to economics.)
My own family used to shop at Target since it spread out to Western U.S. states. The amount of traffic even on a weekend is laughable to that back then. Yes, the internet giant Amazon accounts for a lot of that, but its like shopping at Lowe's and then ten minutes later the same day going to Home Depot. Lowe's is extremely light traffic while HD is heavy.
It's really sad. Target and Lowe's used to be good stores with better quality stuff than their competitors. Even Target's paper ads were fun to read with humorous texts.
I hope both start trying to survive in earnest if only for the sake of those employees. At least Target seems to realize their path course needs correcting.

It’s interesting to see companies in capitalism playing by capitalist ideology while trying to be moral. Capitalism presupposes a neutral moral consideration. While we can’t say something is moral because it makes profit so to can we not say a company is moral because it does or does not make profit. But we can say for certain a company under capitalism will not chose to remain moral among a loss of profit.
