To use you have to know. To know you have to understand. But that’s not enough, you gotta remember what was the thing you understood.
That’s why simplifications and mnemonics work. If you want to be knowledgeable about a broad topic, and you want to keep this working knowledge over time, they’re a must.

Thank you for this well organized and easy to explain a presentation! I am currently dealing with erythrocytosis from being on testosterone replacement therapy. There seems to be mixed advice within this community regarding whether or not these slightly raised hematocrit/hemoglobin levels need to be addressed through phlebotomies, or if it is as innocuous as a raised H/H would be in those living at elevation or some other secondary reason. While this video doesn’t address that specific cause, it does make the whole subject easier to comprehend. Thank you again!

Thank you for this well organized presentation. I’m 64 and my levels are at 47.3. Can this be related to sleep apnea?😢

It definitely can! I went through the worst of it before I actually had a sleep study. This was back in 2013.

@@bharatt4291 The Hematologist told him he isn’t too worried and thinks it was mostly him being dehydrated. He also said it’s extremely rare in children with no previous history or familial.

@@erikaxchristine Can I ask how things went? My daughter has been feeling dizzy and is under initial evaluation by a neurologist. He sent her for blood work and all 3 of her red blood cell levels were elevated. She has not been feeling well for the last two months. We are going to repeat the blood work on June 20th but I am very worried it could be Polycythemia Vera. She is 17 and starting to have bags under her eyes because she isn't feeling well. Just wondering what the outcome finally was?

@@andreafelgemacher7436 He had his appt and they really thought he was just dehydrated which was a huge relief. We went back to our primary care physician and did a repeat on the blood work, it was in normal range. I have just been making sure he is drinking more water with electrolytes.
