- Help! There Is Something Missing - Huge Canvas - Open Cup Pour - Acrylic Pour
I love the colors in this piece but the negative space is overwhelming and I am looking for your help to turn this gloriously huge acrylic pour on canvas into a master piece! Please type in your ideas to complete this piece! I really do love the open cup technique but I fear I may have stopped short in order to pick up y daughter from school in time.
I'm teaching at PourCon in Vegas August 6-9!

You are so brave to work on such a large canvas! Very challenging. All I would do is tweak areas of the pour to bring the focal point together more. Other than that, it's beautiful! I love the color palette and the negative space. Brava, Sarah!! 💖

The colors looks so good together! Trying to fill the negative space is a tough one. Maybe a ribbon pour running through certain areas?

I DO loveit... but I agree tht maybe joining at least two of the areas more together.. maybe all three. Or I have seen some artists decorate with what is effectively felt pens... maybe a dark blue and a gold, drawing lines and loops to bring the disparate parts together... just an idea...

This is an inspiring piece. It's great "as is", but as a fellow artist, I always end up thinking I need to add to my own negative space pours, too!
I think three interconnected gold foils rings in the center area would be cool...especially if you appear to weave the painting under and over the rings.
I'm saving my final vote until I see the whole thing on a wall, and I think it will be a knockout. I am a bit partial to backgrounds. Then the foreground floats. Congrats.

Beautiful color palette and cells! I'm guessing you've already decided how to handle this composition. I hope you were able to replace the center support padding so that this painting dried flat and uncracked.

I feel absolutely drawn to this one. It's beautiful Sarah. I don't think it lacks anything at all. I'm afraid if you add anymore to it will take away the simple beauty of it and get very busy. I don't think it needs anything it's beautiful just the way it is and the color palette is amazing I love 24-karat gold and nikel azo gold together also what are we going to do when they discontinue the nickel Azo gold kind of a bummer

Sarah-this painting is beautiful! Your color choices are gorgeous and work so well together! Perhaps the lower left side (from viewer vantage point) is throwing you off? It’s the area you weren’t too happy about? I wonder if you returned that area to white and see the negative space of the opposing corners in balance would soothe your mind? This, by the way, is why you are the master and I am the apprentice😁 I am really curious to see what you do. Thanks so much for sharing this with us! Be happy and well!

Hi - I am just starting out and would love to know where you get your paint. I wrote down what you said you used but pretty sure I didn’t catch it all. Love this one btw; colors are amazing.

Are you using American or Australian floetrol?
Sarah I did my first large canvas doing open up and my paint didn’t seem to move the cup so there are scrapes in the finished canvas. I used mostly Liquitex basics paints 2:1 floetrol to paint with some GAC and Liquitex pouring medium in each paint about 1-2oz depending on how much paint. I did a drip test for consistency and flow and it flowed well but when I poured paint into my cup the cup didn’t lift and flow and when I tried moving it the base paint scraped away to reveal the canvas below. I used no water to thin so should I have and should my white base coat be thicker than pour paints?
The part you mentioned painting over...I hope you didn't. I believe that any of those kind of "outshoots" add interest and movement. Making it something far more intentional than random puddles. But...your decisions always result in beautiful pieces. If I am interested in MY vision...I am almost certain that isn't going to be created in my recliner. 🤣😂...unless I painted my recliner 🤪😱
