      Pretty insulting to their legacy

To be fair, I’m naturally stupid and I struggle with some of those names. But, as mentioned above, it’s not very respectful to the players to not try a little harder to get it right.

I think Jordan Tootoo should have been on the list. Guy was addicted for awhile until he got into nhl assistence(he been grieving his brother suscide) . he been sober for years now and he does a lot for local tourneys around wpg and alta.

Kevin Stevens is up there with Mario as my all time favorite players. In his prime,he was a beast! I'm glad that despite it all,he is now doing well and is helping others.

I got as far as “Rick Ry-pee-in” and that was enough for me… and that was after overlooking the mispronunciation of Wade Belak.

@@icebox.hockey hey, thanks for your reply! I apologize for being rude, I’ve gone back and re-watched the video and, other than the mispronunciations, it’s actually a super good video! I’m a lifelong Canucks fan and Rypien was a cult hero over here before his trade and subsequent passing. Plus my sister in law was pals with Wade Belak back in the day before he died as well! Needless to say, I was too touchy and shouldn’t have been judgy. I love that hockey is getting more coverage from outside of Canada these days. If you ever need a hand with anything (pronunciation or otherwise) feel free to shoot me a message and please don’t let my sass discourage you from churning out content!

Pretty fucked up title for the video. You should not of called “Moments when NHL Players ruined their careers.”

back in the day it was booze, Star players never had to buy their own drinks, women were plenty, "Blade Bunnies" start as Teens, Montreal Canadians players get chased by Street Players trying to lure Star players

NHL should have help measures for mental health things but not for addictions.
If you lack self discipline to stay away from toxicating things while playing the highest level hockey in the world, then the slot in NHL team roster belongs to somebody less skilled but who has the self discipline.

interesting opinion, do you think these people experience a normal life with all the money involved from a young age?

    • @gidzmobug2323
      @gidzmobug2323 Před 4 měsíci

That is why the Players Assistance Program exists--so the players can get help.
It is not easy to admit that one needs help.

@@gidzmobug2323 Is it easier to admit for plumbers, forklift drivers, engineers, carpenters, CEO's than for NHL players?
Are NHL players higher form of beings that deserve special treatment when ordinary people are going through serious medical stuff on crappy public healthcare without getting praised by media?
I don't think people should be especially rewarded for lacking self discipline - that addictions are all about imo.

@@icebox.hockey Rich people obviously have more resources to get better treatment, but we are all individuals. Same moral consistency applies to everybody.

I think it’s important to remember that addiction isn’t a choice and it doesn’t discriminate. When you’re addicted to something it’s not as simple as having self control. Depending on the level of addiction, people can have adverse effects including tremors, seizures and even death if they don’t indulge their addiction.
It’s also important to acknowledge the other responses on this thread. Lots of these guys don’t have “normal” lives. I played hockey at a pretty high level back in the 1990s and even though I never came close to the NHL, my life was wild. Injuries were inevitable but everything was rushed to get me back on the ice ASAP with limited treatment. If you’re not prescribed something to kill the pain you find your own way to self-medicate and when you’re a kid whose entire life is focussed on hitting that next milestone, you probably don’t understand the issues you’re having until it’s too late.
