  • It's excruciating to see your identity stripped away and conform with the look of a cancer patient. In Part 2, Wendi describes how she started chemo therapy and left that first round with bad news: she wasn't done.
With the confirmation of her diagnosis of Acute Myeloid Leukemia and the discovery that her journey was far from over, she needed to receive a bone marrow transplant. Miraculously, her brother was a perfect match and was able to supply the needed stem cells.
The process of the transplant was draining, though, and with a weakened immune system, Wendi had to endure sickness, weakness, and relative isolation.
Choices that she once had the opportunity to make-how to do her hair, what to eat, where to go-are now being whittled away. With so few choices available, the thing that kept her human was her choice to be kind to the people with whom she interacted.
