I have a BA in History and Social Science with a minor in political science and business management and I was going to be a teacher. Listening to these people not know the difference between the Revolutionary war, the American Civil War or War between the states is so painful to hear. To think that our education system did not impart important knowledge about this country is very sad. Either that or they forgot what they learned and started to accept info from sources that were not correct.
What really caused the Civil War was the South. The South wanted slavery to expand to other states and Lincoln didn’t, because of that the South succeeded, they took Fort Sumter hostage, Lincoln sent supplies for the hostages, he asked the South not to fire at the ship and they did it anyway. The war wasn’t initially to free slaves, but some years into the war and with utilizing former slaves to fight for the Union and with Frederick Douglass in his ear, eventually the War became about freeing the slaves. Sidenote, Lincoln was assassinated because he announced that he was going to give voting rights to black men as he was impressed with their fighting abilities during the war.

The UK were not protagonists in the Barbary Wars, they may have done a little bit of stirring during the War of 1812 but that’s pretty much it. But regardless of how much involvement the UK may have had in it, it still wasn’t pivotal to either UK, Great British, English or Scottish history and so is not something I was taught in school. On the other hand, the American Civil War was a pivotal part of US history and something that it seems mind boggling that anyone from there and over the age of about ten can’t articulate why it started.

My original point was that in the US it is mainly the history of your own country that is taught for your entire school life and yet the vast majority of the people spoken to in this video couldn’t or wouldn’t say what caused the Civil War…which like it or not from an outsider’s perspective seems a far more pivotal point in your country’s history than the Barbary Wars. It is after all a part of US history that is taught in countries all over the world…I was taught about both the US Civil War and The War of Independence when I was about eleven.

I have a BA in History and Social Science with a minor in political science and business management and I was going to be a teacher. Listening to these people not know the difference between the Revolutionary war, the American Civil War or War between the states is so painful to hear. To think that our education system did not impart important knowledge about this country is very sad. Either that or they forgot what they learned and started to accept info from sources that were not correct.
What really caused the Civil War was the South. The South wanted slavery to expand to other states and Lincoln didn’t, because of that the South succeeded, they took Fort Sumter hostage, Lincoln sent supplies for the hostages, he asked the South not to fire at the ship and they did it anyway. The war wasn’t initially to free slaves, but some years into the war and with utilizing former slaves to fight for the Union and with Frederick Douglass in his ear, eventually the War became about freeing the slaves. Sidenote, Lincoln was assassinated because he announced that he was going to give voting rights to black men as he was impressed with their fighting abilities during the war.

I’m not exactly sure what she was trying to get across with that. Maybe there isn’t a lot of black people in that area so it was not a common thing. Where my house is the demographics are 1.76% black. The town my 80 acres are in is 99.15% white.

As a teacher of history this video appalls me... so much... how do they sit there, the answer is in their eyes and they giggle and are like "idk". The woman at 1:38 saying "I had a black man at my door the other day" in regards to saying the left is bringing race into this and then saying that statement to not sound racist... ma'am there are actual quotes from people from southern states in the 1830s-1850s stating that slavery was a key part of the preservation of the South - and when people say the war was about states rights.... states right to do what? Continue the institution of slavery as we expanded West. You literally will learn this at some point in school here in the United States
