Nicks house build videos will start after harvest videos finish. Going to be sweet!
Wish the videos were just a little longer I love to watch that equipment roll but I know it's a busy time and videos are not easy to make
with all the rock you've pulled out of the fields could some of the larger ones be used and have the house number carved into it? or a marker pile built with a big flat one stood upright to direct deliveries to the homes?
@@ghostwalker100 definitely can, something we might do after the house is built.
@maruiacancerc I'm so sorry to hear that, praying for strength during this battle.
Are you guys in Montana?
Are you kidding? You guys single handedly proved there is a valid reason to keep our stockpiles of random lumber!! On behalf of us guys, we thank you!!
Absolutely!!
We have 7 Westfield augers in our corn drying setup...we even made a custom length auger out of 2 new sections...they didn't line up. The jigs were never designed to be put together. So they told us to send them the bill to make them lineup. We had it cut and welded in under 20 mins. We didn't send them a bill, and they sent us a can of paint...hard to cut and weld on an auger that hasn't moved a bushel yet. Westfield was great.
This is always refreshing when your family repairs equipment. You know your machines inside and out. It is so enjoyable to see what you are doing on the farm. Thank you. Have a great harvest for what crop you have. As you know, the drought is not consistent everywhere.
Thanks for watching!
I can almost guarantee that whoever assembled that auger used nylon lock nuts on the flighting joints. They should always be steel lock nuts and add a dab of blue loctite for good measure. I've repaired piles of augers with this exact problem over the years. Nylon lock nuts work for 1-2 seasons before the end of them wears off and its just a regular nut at that point. I hope you guys see this comment just in case you put it back together with the wrong lock nuts, you'll know what to expect in the future!
Reminds me of my younger days of repairing equipment. My dad's philosophy was " If man made it then we can repair it. You are right about learning from your dad. Great video.
Yep, that’s what my grandpa taught me as well. He’s statement was “if there’s a man in town earning a living repairing it then there’s no reason you can’t fix it and you certainly can’t make it any worse anyways if it’s already broken.”
My grandfather said that experience is the best teacher, as it let you recognize the same mistake over and over again.
I'm gonna go out on a limb and say driving the mutant mower is the most dangerous job on the farm.
Generally yes, but there there was the drawbar incident...
Yep it needs some love!!!
What makes it any more dangerous then your zero turn lawn mower?
@@tyler3148 could be the fact that it looked like the deck was intent on rapid self-destruction.
😂😂😂I turned 77 today. I’m healthy and feel 50. That said I loved the description…. An older gentleman that has a looong time relationship with a beloved reminder of ‘the early days’. The shake rattle and growl is truly good for our elder(ish) soul.
That Auger turned out to be a big job. You guys never cease to amaze me on your knowledge to fix machinery and figure out great ways to do it.
Makes a person wonder... how many of those augers had that problem of the bolts coming loose?
Westfield has had a bad rep the last few years on very poor QC. Bought a new auger a few years ago and had to do some welding on it the very first year. The hitch and on the hopper winch arm... piss poor weld job from the factory that was kinda dangerous to say the least.
Nice to see Papa doing the mowing action! What a great guy he is! 😊 God bless you all, and your harvest. I love your family-even though I don’t know you! May the Holy Spirit bless your day.
Great to see another wonderful Welker home rising up, surrounded by ripening crops! Even better is seeing some crop being cut and put up. Best of all is Coby holding down his side of the harvester while on Rabbit Patrol!! -Bob...
I love the Rig-enegering!!! I have always liked how normal people get the job done with what they have at their disposal. God is always on your side when you put your mind to a Job He make it come true for you.
Hola Welkers!
Tim here from the wind swept prairie of eastern SD.
First comment to you all after years of viewing you folks.
Bob, I believe Coby’s older (twin) brother is in my care, or visa-versa. He likes his ‘Scooby Snacks’ too and he tries to chase down about anything slow enough to torment him. Even though Remmi doesn’t have a Big Bud to ride in, he does his best to enjoy what is available, or run along side what ever happening at the time. He’s not about to be left behind.
I love the mutant mower. That's typical ag make shift innovation in motion. Without that innovation there would be no Big Bud’s, right?
Ugh,on the auger. Been in similar situations here too. We all got enough to do with out having to do someone else job. Grandpa used to say, “we don’t have time to do it right the second go around, so do it right first go around”.
Words to live by.
Stay safe.
So the harvest starts. Hopefully your yields are good.
Hello Guys!
I´m from Estonia and dont own a farm yet, but me and my son always watch with pleasure your videos. U guys make fantastic work over your farm.
I have always dreamed about my own farm, and i know the needed time and stuff what comes with owning the farm. But i admire u holesome! and love what u do.
Yeah i am a little bit optimistic, but, maybe someday we can see your farm be our own eyes and may the GOD bless you and your family!
Love your Dad and Coby😊
The Grass mower looks well sketchy.
Good job with the auger.
Cobie is always an optimist. Hope you do better than break even!
What a job that was.
That Chev truck has been so handy for you guys. Smart buy.
I always found that the tracked skid steers were a smoother ride, but I can totally see your point. Ps--questions about cupholders are the type of wisdom that we come to receiver from the Bobfather.
I was very relieved that you did not use the bowling ball cannon technique for flighting extraction. That may have placed a different spin on things!
I think I would also wear level four body armor when operating that mower. Loved Pa Pa Welker's booney hat, but a ballistic helmet would be more safe. You could even equip it with night vision for those dangerous night mowing operations.
I have the impression that Nick is an A&P. Have him balance the props (blades) on that mower.
With all the bad weather you all experience thank you so much for continuing to grow crops to feed us all.
Glad crops made something! Gotta love farming!!!! It’s hot and dry
In Texas too.
Good luck combining your peas Welker Farms
Happy Happy Joy, Joy. Fixing flighting & pillow blocks with bearings on augers. I delivered feed to thousands of farms across Alberta & had to help fix more than my share of augers. No.1 problem was either bearings or bolts coming loose. Usually it was bolts coming loose. Have a great day & God Bless.
We had this happen on every one of our Westfield augers. It's nice that they use a square shaft now, the older ones used a round shaft so when the bolt came out the top half of the auger would stop spinning and you would have to take it apart full of crop. The only way we stopped it was to use two nylon lock nuts, one to tighten it and one as a jam nut.
Nylon and rotating steel never mix ...in the end...just sayin'...
I beleive those augers had an issue with bolts breaking, add another bolt
Same thing happened to our Westfield auger. I was in a hurry during harvest and just cut a hole in the side of the auger and put new bolts in and welded the side piece back onto the auger. Needs paint now 😂.
That works!
I can’t believe that you are harvesting peas already. And by the sound of it, it won’t be as bad as last year. Stay safe and try to have a easy harvest. And god bless. Can’t wait to see Nicks house going up!!!
Great idea Bob using 2x4s to push flitting out
Welkers you are such an inspiration. God bless
I really hope you get some rain and all at the right times. I have a heavy heart just watching. May you get lots of hugs from your children and grand kids. Wishing all the best from Northern Canada.
Back when I still used augers I rebuilt a Westfield 71 ft, put all new fliting in it end to end. Took 2 months to get the fliting from Canada. It only made it 1/2 the season with the new flite, the tube was worn so thin the auger collapsed.
Good luck fixing your auger Welker Farms
God Bless. We need to fill up all of those new bins!
Don't know about 1978 of the farm but in 1968 we drank coffee out of 1 - quart sealers (mason jars) and our cold (but soon to be warm) water out of 2 - quart sealers. Wouldn't fit in a modern cup holder.😅
It is amazing the solutions that age brings to the table. I would never have thought about using wood. Great to see Nick's basement taking shape! Always love the shop videos! Take care and God bless!
If structurally possible I would add access holes to those bolts in the auger. So that you don't have to spend all that time taking it apart just to replace the bolts. By the looks of it It is only being held together by one bolt. I would double it in case one breaks you have a secondary. Thanks for sharing the farm videos I really enjoyed them. Keep up the great work and be safe.
The swather part of the mower, looks like a Versatile, made in Winnipeg Manitoba.
Old macdon. Same as 665 Massey and a few others as well
Factory macdon double snowblower attachment is one of the coolest swather attachments I've ever seen.
and in the north of germany we cant even think about harvesting because its raining almost every day
great video nothing better than time spent with mr welker god bless welkers
Rain so spotty in Iowa this year, we usually have 15-20 inches by now, on our farm, 2 miles across, we have had less than 3 inches so far this entire year.
That mechanical sympathy keeps the machines working longer and possibly more important you find the failures before they are catastrophic. Most people go through life ignorant of the machines they use (whatever they are).
Love the mower, always thought a snowblower made from a swather was a great idea. Your mower was another good idea, Hydraulic power would be a nice upgrade..
Nick that actually works out well thst your brother built first..in my experience there always things you wish you would of known before building. You can use his house for examples 👍 So many decisions
But to be fair to Legarms house tho... it is pretty much perfect. Im not sure what Nick could do to top that house.
@@crandonborth Yes it turned out awesome!
Hope all have a great one
You’ve gotta watch the edge of the auger flighting if it’s been touching the trough I’ve had that edge slice right through a good pair of leather gloves and leave me with stitches and a ruined pair of good gloves😮
Im out in Tennessee and just seen something that has confused me. I thought it was broken but ive seen 3 or 4 now so its not. They look like a wide disk but only the 1st and last ones touch the frame and they look like it has a cable or something holding like a 20 foot span then they attach to the frame. They had 4 to 6 sections like that. Im from Oklahoma and ive never seen them before today
Always great the see old equipment repurposed nice to see there's a harvest coming in it's something at least it's not nothing and everybody's in good health God bless you may harvest be bountiful
Oh my gosh what an undertaking; a big job made much easier with the correct tools. Quality control slipped a little for sure, but you guys have a incredible work ethic and this farm life to the fullest extent. God Bless
Hello Welkers, another great video. Here's to a great harvest.
It is so good to see and hear Bob and his Bobisms, although it appeared as if the Montana winds had taken the day off and someone left the heat on in Toole County. You guys remain amazing both individually and as a family; pity the machine that dares break down on your farm!!!
Great video Bob LegArms and Nick
i remember the first video i watched was when you guys made that mower, been a fan ever since!!! thank you for the content and saying prayers for you guys to have a safe and great harvest!!!
Awesome! Thank you!
Hope your crops do well this year. The mutant mower is what you expect on a farm, excellent job. Wonder what engine would be in that thing. Stay safe and healthy. The drive ways are long on the new homes, hope you have a warm way to plow.
Chrysler 225 slant 6
@@RobertWelkerFarmerBob Good engine, one of the best built by Chrysler.
Good Luck and Be Safe with Harvest 23
Nick and Crew.......Found out today that Dennis Harmon, brother of Ron Harmon, builders of the "Big Bud' tractor line is a client of mine here in Boise Id. Small circles!!! Absolutely love your channel.
Very cool!
The augers should have 2 bolts at each joint of the flighting, have had to replace the bolts of several 70-110ft augers over the years. They just fatigue and break.
I used oilfield sucker rods to push the flighting out. My auger must be older because it doesnt have the square shaft. It has a round shaft inside the pipe so when the bolt breaks it's plugged.
Your dad is awesome. Love hanging out with him
It would seem someone forgot the loctite at the factory. If that is the case it always happens to be the bolts in the most difficult place to get to.
Man, the skill set and ingenuity on that farm always impresses me! Hoping for a big harvest for you guys! We’re about to start cutting corn here in Alabama.
How about a finish house tour, homes always show better furnished, great video, great channel, great farmers... 👍🚜👍
Appreciate it! New house videos to come after harvest videos. Didn't want to mix the two as it might throw some off.
Wouldn't it be nice if there was an access panel cut into the side where those joints line up so you could work on it with out disassembly?
Love the pieced together mutant mower!
I suspect you got you monies worth out of swather
before it was converted-- ‐-great job on the auger repair
love the video!
Looking good guys be safe out there your buddy from Nebraska
Beast Bine Is HUNGRY! Great Work on that Westfield Auger Scott
Hmmm, “Dad”….
he’s appears to be a good guy to have around…, for all his experience, wisdom, simple ideas to make taking that auger apart…, yep he is a good guy to have around.., better keep him on the payroll. What do you think Scott…? Hahaha..!
Great video,
Thank you gentlemen.
Love watching you guys “figure things out”
i love the relationship between these guys and there dad, its how all father sons should be but sadly very few actually have this type of relationship!!
Can't believe it's harvest time already. Got my This Land was made for You and Me t shirt today. Lookin good. 😁😁
Yeah we have a Versatile 400, will be using it to knock down our oats for our 416 IH pull type combine
Just rolled thru Shelby today, on my way beck to Michigan, beautiful country out there
Good job 👍Welkers Harvest 2023 👍👍👍💕🙏🥰
The auger must have been assembled on a Friday afternoon with a long weekend coming. Does make you wonder where the bolts went to
Almost every auger in our area has had that same problem. Crap bolts I’m thinking
Enjoy the time with your dad it will be over faster then you no. Just me and mom now. We put new unloading augers and tube in our combine. 90 feet of auger. Better you than me lol. Hope the harvest goes well or as good as it can with red lol
Incredible drone footage! Thank you for sharing a larger perspective of your families blessings ❤
Hey Bob! I’d be willing to bet between you and Coby, you could design a mower for the front of the mutant out of an old bat wing mower to make it full width. Might cost you a few extra doggie treats though 😊
And so it begins, praying for a good yield.
Good luck on your harvest and be safe
You guys never cease to amaze me! Any chance of back to manufacturing company for some reimbursement? Peas, what is a good bushel/acre crop? Not familiar with them and how much/bushel? Prayers for a breakdown free good harvest!
So excited for Nicks family home!
I could do that combine stuff!! IF Toby were to be there to assist me!! I like his cool. That was some brilliant engineering getting that auger apart and out!! "Old farmer" kind of wisdom. LOL I love seeing that kind of stuff. That is what happens when you have SO much information stored in your bank of experiences that your brain WILL find a reference and design a solution using past experience!! Just wish there was a way to transfer that knowledge to the next generation without injuries. VERY interesting and inspiring video today gentlemen. Really enjoyed this one. You can NOT get that smart in college.. You have to LIVE it!! Thanks again for letting me tag along. Some days I learn so much it makes my hair hurt!! LOL Blessings to you ALL!!
good luck this year guys
What a bummer that (new) auger that has that kind of problems. I think they also needed to put 2 bolts in not just 1.
That Crain is like a pocket in a shirt. 🎉
Another great video. Good luck with harvest and most of all be safe.
Nick and Bob, what creativity and innovative engineering skills you have...this was a great video!
What would make the mutant mower really cool would be take the (looks to be 6 ft) mower off and put a 10 ft 3 point Bush hog on it so it'd be closer to the whole width of the mower in the front, and you'd be able to knock out some serious grass then👍🏼
Great video guys glad to see you guys harvesting already. God bless you and keep you safe during harvest season. Always good to see Colby
Good show
Awesome video thanks for sharing
I love my track skid steers. But for your application and conditions 💯% wheels are the way to go!!
Hook the hydraulic up and lift the auger up the flitting will slide out
Well done. Everything looks like it's going to plan. God Bless
Cody is alway on the watch out for anything that is not supposed to be there! This was a great instalment! Missing that sky on the highline!
This is not Bob's and Kobies first rodeo. Thank you, stay safe and God bless.
Y'all are amazing!! so talented
I hope Nick is keeping the shop clean
