6:50 Lava Reef zone act 2 DOES have a boss, though. that whole segment after Knuckles shoves a green rock down onto sonic. And sonic has to fight an eggman boss in the lava. It's only AFTER you beat that boss that you go into hidden Palace Zone as Sonic. (Knuckles doesn't fight that boss, though.)
Some people don't know this but in the Death Egg Zone Act 2 Boss if you spindash into the spikes the boss drops when they're upside down you can flip them back over.
I enjoyed playing Sonic & Knuckles years back I know it's not the perfect Sonic game in the 90s however despite the flaws it truly stands out as a Classic.
