  • One of the most over looked "while you're in there" projects is ignoring the corrosion that's creeping all over your chassis & suspension bits. Sand blasting and powder coating your metal parts is an excellent way to protect your car from the elements.

Ok. Alex... Alex...Alex.... What is going on? I think I can speak for the masses that you are hurting us all with these lack of videos. At this point I wanna come up to Canada just to help you finish. I have much love for you and the project. So I hope to see a video of yours pop up on the home page soon.

Great video Alexander , I never thought powder coating was that much more beneficial than paint! When can we expect some E9 videos? I'm thinking I may start a similar series with my E24!

E246ixer definitely has its advantages over paint! This week covered why you may want to paint sometimes ;) should be soon, some big changes have happened for the better!

Are you familiar with Cerakote ceramic finishes, and how they might compare to powder? Seems they're much thinner, ~ 0.5 mils.
BTW, like your CS project. There's an E3 project car in my garage since 1979...

As i am in a restauration project, i'm more concerned about the price because the actual benefit of painting something yourself with cans is actually that it's cheaper and faster.

TheCabillaud94 if you do everything in a batch which is what I did (subframe, control arms, sway bars, suspension components, steering bits etc) it was very reasonable. But there is still a time and place for diy-Ing it obviously.

Alexander Marshall Well in my personal case, I had to paint my motorcycle frame (that I'm building in a Cafe Racer, more infos if you want) because the cost of the painful was too high (small budget due to small age) but also because knowing how to paint would always be usefull. Thanks you for the in-depth look man, happy to see you back.

I did that before on one of my projects, the problem is when you bolt parts back up, paint ALWAYS chips at the mounting surfaces and leaves the raw metal exposed. I started doing everything with powder, this video does an excellent job explaining the benefits.
