In my opinion, well-drawn (and preferably colored) doujins are much better than low-quality animated or live-action media.

When I'm reading doujinshi, I'm looking for tags. I honestly don't care what characters are in it, so long as the art style is good enough to be sexy and it has the tags I'm looking for, then I go for it.

The context and the characters u like make a better doujin, that's why I like most of the doujins based of series I like(not every series but he ones the characters have big sexual tension between them). Knowing the context assure you that that scenes are possible and the good characters make the doujin compatible or likable.

The way I go about it is by saying that the characters you see in doujin exist within THAT universe, but not necessarily in the one that we see in anime or manga. Plus, it helps that most of the situations in doujins are pretty out there. Like, I can read doujin of most harem anime featuring the protag because I know that by the laws of harem, the actual protag is getting NOTHING.

One thing I will say, if you're looking to learn japanese, learning enough japanese to read hentai is actually as easy as it gets.
I don't even need to learn the language to even know why

I actually learned most of my english reading doujinshi since there is basically nothing in my native language, the only downside I see on that is that I`m not confident enough when speaking or writing since I`m only used to reading and listening.

Good practice would be to just talk to yoyrself, and try to pronounce the words correctly. Also, try making friends with people who aren't from a place that speak your native language, and talk with them. It's a great help (If you aren't able to make friends with people not from your own country, just try speaking with your friends. This usually isn't as effective, because you could always rely on your native language if you're uncertain of something).

I'm with Garnt and Syd on this one. I can't fully enjoy an erotica if it just jumps straight into the action. Witnessing the sex without knowing anything about either of the characters involved just makes it a purely physical thing, but sex isn't purely physical. It's extremely emotional.
Jumping straight to the action is like watching an epic fight scene without knowing why the characters are even fighting. Sure, it'll look cool, and some of the moves and special effects might impress you, but it won't have you on the edge of your seat.

*Connor and Joey:* want to separate between the anime and 𝖍𝖊𝖓𝖙𝖆𝖎 because of liking/loving the anime, the characters and is emotionally invested in the story (since it will be quite weird to watch something exciting but then see the characters in a weird state with what you know from them and their story) but is alright with characters that they dislike because they care little about them.
*Garnt and Sydney:* is more with the characters they love and are invested in from an anime get mixed in with 𝖍𝖊𝖓𝖙𝖆𝖎 because of excitement of what-if scenario in a different genre from the original story. (if done in a satisfying/good way or not idk)
