- Hal Holbrook is an American treasure. He is one our most beloved actors. In a deeply moving conversation with American Conservatory Theater's Carey Perloff, Holbrook spoke of his challenging upbringing and his struggle to become a successful actor, travelling for years on the road. Holbrook, of course, is best known for his remarkable portrayals of Mark Twain, for which he won a Tony award and which he has performed for five decades. Twain has clearly been an artistic, political and personal wellspring throughout his life. In a rare treat, the audience enjoyed several extended recitations of Twain throughout the evening.
Great American writer and actor, with a wonderful moral compass. Truly a grand man.

He was the best Humble what a great person
He was an amazing human being, I love that he's able to be so honest about being a terrible parent and not sugar coating it like other actors have done . It doesn't make it ok but the honesty about it can make it a little easier to deal with for his children ( I hope) ? I also appreciate how much he truly loved/s Dixie and speaking about her still chokes him up inside and he appreciated what a truly remarkable, loving and talented woman she was.
